Hey, Just came back to the game and I would like a good sever/guild to join. I'm starting fresh and would like to find a bunch of people who like to have fun/mess around with and who also dungeon/raid and do heathly amount of pvp. If anyone matches the description would you mind inviting me to play with you? I believe this game is more enjoyable when you have friends to play with.

Just some general advice for picking a server

1 - Before you make any choice take a quick look at the above links. WoWprogress rates servers by PvE progression however it is a good litmus test for how active a server is. Ive been on servers where it is normal for there to be less than sixty lvl 85 alliance online at the same time. Dead servers suck.

2 - Check out the forums of the server you are looking at! They can give you a glimpse of the community

3 - Create an alt and run into a major city and listen to trade chat to get a feel for the community. /2 is always juvenile but you can tell if it is dead, active, mean spirited or just people trolling for the sake of trolling.

Congratulations, you just passed the first test.

Next test: Finish the sentence.

"Red means..."

Also, what continent are you from?

That finish the sentence flew over my head, if it's a pop culture reference or even something about the game I'm lost. Buuuuuuuuuuuut... I'm from north america, the states to be more specific. =)

It's not all bad. The vast majority of servers at least speak the same language.

Even that is a pretty wide choice. I'm from the US Midwest and was for some reason playing on a left coast server. Since I prefer late night play, I was totally out of sync, meaning I almost never saw any other real players. Add that to my guild not doing anything except building numbers and it wasn't a great experience. Third strike was that the server was about 15%/85% Horde/Alliance, so what few players I did see were enemies.

I basically threw away three toons (levels 75, 62 and 30-ish) and went in search of a more balanced server in my local time zone. I had to rebuild my prime and secondaries, but in the process I hooked up with a fantastic guild. Often as many as 25 members online, plenty of back-channel guild chat, and plenty of guildies willing to help you past a choke point or trade services/advice. There is an active effort to help the mid-levels level up for eventual raiding.

Based on stuff like age, I don't have any local friends to play the game with - I'm truly amazed at how much a good guild improves the play experience.

Unfortunately or your needs, it IS a PVE server, though the guild does a lot of guild wars, battlegrounds and challenges if you like PVP.

I believe the reason I kept leaving the game was do to a lack of guild/people to have fun with, my experiences with the game have been mostly solo. But I figured a zam community guild or just a good guild in general would keep me interested this time around. I could always start a guild with a good group of people if anyone is interested?

I would not rely on Warcraft Realms to pick a server. Nobody runs the addon for it anymore making most of the data completely unreliable. But, you can use the addon yourself to get a good feeling of the active populations of both sides. It just takes some time to get a good amount of data to paint a clear picture.

Anyone care to invite or know OF a good server?

Wowprogress is pretty accurate though.

@OP: My server is awesome, but it is a PvE server, so it might not be to your liking.

I play Horde on the Quel'Dorei realm. Its a balanced server (faction) and I've met some good folks. But it *is* PVE.

Its USA Central Time Zone, which may matter more to me than to some others.

If you try it and like it, look me up (Sendarin on the board).

Okay, I give in. I gonna roll on a PVE server. =) I wanna roll Alliance anyone who can assist me further? Guild/character name all that good stuff?

lol, poor guy. Does seem weird that nobody has a pvp server they can recommend.

I play on Proudmoore, although horde side. Alliance side is much more popular though. The server's population is huge, and fairly evenly split between north american players and aussies, which makes for non existent queue times, aside from expansion launches.

I will warn you however, that Proudmoore has a pretty extensive LGBT population. If you do any sort of gay bashing in trade, you will get flamed into oblivion. Also, on the rare occasion politics do come up in trade, the conversation tends to lean more liberal minded as a result, where a few others I've been on in the past have been evenly split. If this isn't an issue for you, welcome! If you're looking for a social/leveling guild, I think Stonewall Family would be a good bet, as i believe they are the Alliance counter part to Taint, the world's largest LGBT guild, and the 2nd largest guild in the world overall.

Can you confirm/deny that Fish? I don't have any Alliance toons on the server, so I'm not really sure what's available.

What does LGBT stand for btw? And watch finding good alliance guild/people be my next problem. XD

Well, over here in blue we don't have the huge "one big family" feel I've heard Proudmoore Horde has. I really don't see much difference between Proudmoore and other servers I've played on. (Although she's right about no queue. Fun times.) The one exception is the presence of the Stonewall Family series of guilds, which are awesome.

Tradechan is still Tradechan. I don't have much to say on it, as in my guild we kind of have a policy of staying away from it and not making the guild look like idiots.

Honestly, I think Proudmoore's mostly good reputation comes from its Horde side. Over here on Alliance, I just don't see much difference between it and, say, Echo Isles, my last server. There's just more people active. Proudmoore Horde has this awesome thing where if you know the people in one guild, then you know the people in all the guilds. It's, like I said, one big family, and they're all awesome people that generally aren't douchebags. Over here on Alliance, it's just a more typical WoW experience; that isn't a bad thing, you should just know that coming in.

If you're looking to level a toon on Alliance, I do recommend joining the Stonewall Family. They're an awesome group of people that will help you on the way to 85. If you don't, there's plenty of other leveling guilds over here on Alliance as well. The thing about Alliance is that there's just too many people to get the networking Pigtails has on Horde. It's kind of like a small college vs a major state college. Pick whichever applies to you.

Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transexual. It generally refers to almost anyone who's not typical "straight".

Hmm, well that's too bad. =/ I do really love the feel Horde side has, although I don't really feel like I know that many people outside my guild. I mostly just do stuff with them, but I will do pug T11 stuff on occasion. There are definitely certain people who have a reputation, and I am aware of some of those individuals lol. And let's just say that Taint pugs don't have the best reputation either. They are really hit or miss, considering they pretty much let anyone in the guild.

What's creepy is I seem to have developed a reputation without realizing it, although i think it is mostly a good one. I joined a Firelands pug on my mage a few weeks back, and the priest in the group apparently knew who I was, knew my priest and my druid by name. I never did find out who they were, as they dc'd before I asked them.

I'e been playing for only about nine months and have tried three servers before settling where I am. I don't think I've ever posted to trade channels. To be sure, I was pretty sure they were primarily for giving immature 14 year olds a place to act out so they played nice otherwise.

Another thing I think funny: the Alliance are supposedly the "good guys", but Horde is seemingly programmed with a much stronger HONOR ethos. (Wouldn't it be nice if there was a server where we could all gang up on the goblins (ggg)?)
#26 Nov 28 2011 at 6:21 PM Rating: Good
If you look at the two factions of WoW with a LotR mindset, then yes the Alliance would seem like the 'good guys' and Horde the 'bad guys.' However, if you have any pre-existing knowledge of WoW lore, you know this is definitely not the case. One of the things that I love about this game is that both sides have committed evil, and done good as well. There aren't really any actual neutral races that haven't had their share of the dark side.
