Best way to start WoW'ing with my wifeFollow

#1 Nov 06 2011 at 10:13 PM Rating: Excellent
Hey guys, first time poster.
I've played a lot of WoW, mostly all spread out with long breaks. I have several high level char's but Im thinking about starting over and playing for fun with my wife. I know there were a ton of perks available through the "invite a friend" method including faster lvl'ing etc.

What's the best way to get back into this and maximize $ and time? I'll be doing some snooping on the WoW site but will check back if anyone has any good ideas. Not trying to be lazy but I'm thinking some of you might have some hindsight that will get us in the right direction without any regrets! Thanks for any help

Aww, you guys are cute!

What specifically are you wanting tips on? Which classes to level, how to make good starter gold, which profs to level? We're pretty helpful around here most of the time, but some direction as to what kind of help you're wanting would be nice.

Just ignore our snarky comments.

I try to resist, really. I just... I'm weak.

Definitely do recruit a friend, you get 300% xp for quests and kills, makes lvling fast. You can also summon each other to each other and the recruited account can grant half their levels to another one of your toons.

That being said if you do RAF with your wife have bags ready and some starting cash You will find quest gear/rewards cant keep up with how fast you level. Remember you can skip many of the collect bijillion of X quests and focus on the quest lines.

Also Ive learned to play near one another so you can explain things coordinate better, and remember be patient not everyone gets it right away. Haveing a good guild that chatty friendly helps specially if there is a good mix of genders so she doesnt feel singled out.

Uhmm thats about all i can think of off the top of my head.

Your wife is hot. Does she read the forums as well? If not, please forward my message.

My advice to people leveling up with friends, or just people leveling in general, is to not skip content. Don't rush because you see light at the end of the tunnel. Take your time, explore the world, experience the game's content at all levels.

Rushing through will get you to 85 faster, but it won't be as much fun.

Yeah, what's she doing with a dope like you?

I kid, I kid.

As for your question, what the above posters have mention works well. I would suggest before you get her her own account, let her try out the trial (or make characters on your account) and make different classes and make sure there is a class she will enjoy.

Also, you don't have to start a new account, just start over on a new server (I would suggest PVE) and make some new characters. The refer-a-friend is a great idea and on top of all the benefits others have said you get a free 2-person rocket mount for one of your characters.

thanks for all the replies and the compliments :P

Yea, I did some more research on my own and it looks like the RAF is even better than I remember it being back in the day.. Good idea about the spare cash, I will have her start a char where i already have a 70+ so i can send our new chars some gold. She did a priest a couple months ago and got bored.. I think she wants to do a hunter (probably good since she will spend most of the time running solo or with me questing)

Ill keep u guys posted, I'm sur there is a specific forum for guild stuff but we will probably need an invite if we decide to stick with the game for a while.

Definitely level and experience the content, too much rushing, not enough enjoying. The nice thing about going slowly, is that you are more likely to get good at your toon.

If you are playing together I recommend a Paladin/Priest duo. My Fiancee and I were able to do most instances at level with that combo.

Let her play what ever class she picks out. Don't wear heirlooms and don't outlevel her. Have fun. Join a casual guild that has a few other couples.

One good way to help fund a fiend on a new server is to start a DK. After the initial sequence - which is still worth going through however many times you've done it - you have a 58 char with enough gold to buy bags for your newbie couple.

Do be careful starting your wife on this road. It can be a slippery slope but good luck anyways.

I agree here. When I came back to WoW after a long absence, I was happy to find that they've revamped many of the old quests and created new ones, especially the low level ones, so you may not have as much of the "ho-hum, did this quest 300 times before." The Redridge questline is especially fun, btw.

They've also made solo questing almost painfully easy. Unless your goal is end-game play, I'd recommend taking it slow and enjoying the scenery - especially with a first-time player.

While Recruit-A-Friend may be nifty for those who want to focus on end game, it will probably be too swift for the go-slow approach that I and Mazra suggest. If you do all the quests, many will be grey, and thus so easy they won't provide a decent challenge.

Going slow also allows a new player to get a feel for each ability as they come along. Some of the spells/abilities and mechanics need practice, which you won't get if you rush. For instance, as a rogue, just learning to maneuver your character to within pocket-picking range can be a challenge.

If you go fast, the abilities may pile up before you have a chance to learn each one well.

Create a DK, farm the beacons for a mechanical chicken. AH that sucker for 4500g(server dependent and varies, got 4500 on my warrior's server, only 2500 on my main server). Buy enough bags for severe awesomeness.

Wait, are you saying what I think you're saying? Because if you are I've got at least 3 or 4 70+ characters that have not done those quests.

Looks like I'm gonna have to see what a Mechanical Chicken is going for on my server next time I get to log on.

Yeah, if you're thinking about collecting the three beacons to make a couple thousand gold in about 2 hours of work(add more time if you're using a DK you need to get through the starter quests), then yes, I'm saying what you think I'm saying.

Anyone else miss the "with" in the OP's subject line?

lol.

Anyways, uh.

#1 thing you can do is Recruit-a-Friend.

That will get you lots of levelups, fast, and it works clear up to level 80 now! Triple XP, all the way up to 80. Avoid wearing BoA armor (weapons are fine since they do not have +XP), though, or you'll out-level your wife's new characters as she wouldn't have BoAs.

Not sure what your playstyle is, but one very solid powerful duo combination I've found, are two Paladins. One can be a Protection Paladin, and the other either Holy or Ret.

This combo will let you solo (well, duo) more crap than anything I can think of, in case your wife wanted to get some old achievements (like my mom does).

Paladin is a nice class because it has a very nice mix of utility -- it can tank, heal, and do some good decent damage and the class itself is fairly easy to master. Druids get four "specs", but they are more difficult to use IMO, more complicated. Paladin is also one of the few (one of 2 actually) classes with a natural mount speed buff, Crusader Aura. It also has a Rez, good Self-heals, an invincibility shield, and a total HP refill. No other class has the latter 2. Druids have instant flight form, which can be nice in some situations (especially if you want a miner or herbalist).

Paladin makes a good simple class to start out with, though Ret Paladin later on does get harder when you've got Inquisition and Zealotry to worry about (unless you have her play the Prot paladin).

As for helping her get started quick and easy, one of you should pick up mining/skinning, the other herbalism/skinning, but be sure to go out solo now-and-then if your XP should start getting too far apart.

Also, with Recruit-a-Friend, be sure to get as many characters leveled up as you can during RaF, be sure a pair of Death Knights are among those being leveled, so that you can get crafts up on your alts too if you want. This is what I did, and I'm dang glad I did, as the prices in the AH for things I can make myself in <10min work are simply out of this world. A great example is Bloodthirsty PvP armor, on some servers this crap goes for 1k or more gold. I can make that in 10-15min if I have to farm the mats myself.

The best is to found a guild. As you are two that could work out great and lvling will be much faster. There a tons of single players out there searching for a proper guild. And if you and your wife seriously start to play wow that would be perfect as you can split the time of ruling the guild and you can push your members easy. Ppl like when the guild leaders are in harmony, nothing is more annoying the fights between officers and leaders. I think founding a guild will give you two much fun and will get your wife more involved (as women are more interested in communication than achievements and fights :-))

This is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard on this board, but I guess it is pretty typical of most male gamers (thankfully, none that post here regularly). I'm sure our other females will agree that you are wrong though. I'm female and I play this game for progression (working on heroic Majordomo atm) and achievements, not to have a social tea party.
