Recently went to a guild run where we downed Shannox for the first time with two new tanks. Several people had done it before, but the tanks were new to it.
Took 3 attempts, with the second being an instant fail due to an unlucky DC - followed by quick losses.
The 3rd (Down) attempt was kind of strange. The strat was to allow 1 tank to stack until he was basically 1-shot. BRez. Allow the other tank to assume all damage until he died. First tank to finish boss for the kill.
That was the strat. Don't combat the Tear. Don't worry about the tank/tauntless thing. Just let him go down, have the other one take over - BRez - rinse and repeat.
So - Question - Is this normal?

Seems like an odd strategy but a legit one. "Normal" though I am not sure, haven't raided this expansion yet sadly. I missed out on quite a bit of raiding back in WotLK and I wanted to get back into it.
On a side note, they nerfed Firelands quite a bit ago so that is probably what made that strategy possible without having some really high dps. (again I don't know how long it takes for a tank to basically be instagibbed so I am assuming it would take high dps)

The two tanks are both fully geared from the previous tier with a few pieces of FL ilvl gear.
Both tanks stacked to >20 stacks.
One Paly was carrying 30ish I think.
Entire raid was composed of Good healers with Decent DPS. Only 1 person appeared to be FL geared to any real extent. Everyone else was either fully geared from BoT, BWD, etc. or they were +/- a piece of gear or two.

That strategy reminds me of FFXI boss fights, LOL!
Shannox is pretty easy tbh. Most semi-competent groups can get him down with little struggle. Hell, even heroic Shannox is easy. My priest's raid group got him down in two attempts after killing Rag for three weeks.
That is not the normal strategy, no. I find it hard to believe a Brezzed tank could get back up to the top of Shannox's threat, but apparently they could.

Agreed. Even when mistakes are made (people standing in traps, Rageface has his buff stacking too high, etc) we usually down him first try on HM.
On normal mode he should be an easy kill even without the whole brezzed tank thingy. I don't know... but I think he should be even easier with a "normal" strat than something like this. :D
Not a strat I've seen before and as others have said I'm not sure it makes it any easier than doing it normally.
I took my alt on a pug raid (6-7 from the same guild) and their tactic for Beth was to have everyone stay downstairs with the healers spamming their little hearts out. Beth then comes down on full health and the healers spam a little more. Sure it worked, but it seems a lot of hassle just because you don't have people who want to go upstairs and not stand in the fire.
