New class info is about the only thing I care for this time. I'll have to move toons around to create space, so the sooner I know what to expect - if anything - the better.

I predict they'll give a target date (like late November), if that, but nothing exact. They've always been very "when it's ready" about patches.

We've already been told that's not happening.

I'm actually on board with you about this one. See below.

I fully expect the next expansion to be announced at Blizzcon, with all signs pointing towards Mists of Pandaria as it, despite Blizzard trying to hint that MoP likely isn't an expansion. But MoP or not, I will be shocked if the next expansion isn't announced at Blizzcon. I would prefer a new class over a new race (I would always love a true support class, but that's not happening - WoW's model just doesn't support it), and I think a Monk would be a good one. We'll see.

I want a new caster class. I will admit that Monk sounds pretty cool, but I don't see it being something I'd play. Melee fans got DK in Wrath, I think it's only fair for us to get a new caster class with the next expansion.

You fishing for a Bard, Tails?

Personally, I'd like to see the return of the hybrids/support classes. I miss the days where I'd take my Paladin into a dungeon as Retribution, do meh damage, but help out the healer/tank in the process. Same with my Druid and Shaman.

Pigeonholing classes into three categories - tank, healer or damage dealer - sort of ruined some of the charm of the hybrid classes.

They should probably get around to implementing triage healing before they do this, though. Support classes don't work so well in a damage system where 1-2 seconds delay on a heal can mean a wipe.

I've tried, and I can't think of a good pure-caster that could be added. Maybe Necromancer or Witch Doctor, but I think Necro would be too much like Warlock, and Witch Doctor would be really close to a Shaman.

Monks would be a total new game for us and I like new classes, it keeps me going in WOW. When Wotlk came, the first think I did was to level my DK to 80.

The RPG seems to have more classes with a steam punk flavor. The closest WOW seems to come is Engineering as a skill. In Vanilla, that worked OK; mechanical things were somewhat in the background. Post Cataclysm, the gnomes have recovered Gnomeregan and the goblins have set up enclaves across the map.

I'd like to see WOW start to move out from the D&D model, so I'd like to see them skip the semi-obligatory Monk and Bard. Yes, I know people want them, but let's see some new ideas rather than things from the history of RPGs. A dash of steam punk to go with the zeppelins, tanks, airplanes and guns might be one way to do that. It might even revitalize prancing, squid faced space goats (credit to Teacake).

A bard wouldn't really fit into WoW's Tank/Healer/DPS x3 model, even if I would personally like to see Blizzard's implementation of the class. An Engineer class would be interesting, too, but what would happen to the profession? It would make a great hero class, and could be implemented similarly to FFXI's Ninja (in that, you spend a LOT of cash for the class to work well). One tree could be a pet tree with an automoton that can tank for you, one tree would be ranged and focus on using guns, and the other could be more melee oriented.

Only if they changed what a bard has been about in the past. If they sing and do damage, that'd be cool. If they could figure out a way to make a bard a hybrid class that could heal or do magical damage, that'd be sweet. I don't see how it would be that difficult really, it'd just be different.

Problem I'm seeing with Monk is that there's one in D3, and I think they're interested in keeping those 2 games seperate.

That said though, its about the only reason I can think of why a monk would not likely be the new class if there is to be one.

WoW really isn't built, and probably never was built to handle hybrids. They could never get the PvE vs PvP balance right so they removed a lot of the self heals to balance PvP and increased pure dps to make them worth having in PvE.

I would like to see a monk class, but I am not holding my breath.

Mainly I am awaiting a D3 release date, some news for the SCII exp and hopefully a reveal of the next expac basic features. Titan is still too far away and they have at least a WoW expac and DIII release within the next year. I doubt they will over saturate the goody list with something that is 2+ years away.

The only way they could make a true support class in WoW is if they buff everyone else enough that the bonus damage/healing everyone else is doing because the bard is there is roughly equal to the damage/healing just bringing another dps/healer along would do.

It'd would be a complete pain to balance, even before they got to PvP, but it's possible. The reason I don't see them doing this, though, is because Shadow Priests used to work on a similar theory in Burning Crusade. Shadow priests did low damage, but provided mana and healing to the group that would allow the rest of the group to go longer and harder than they would on their own (hurr, innuendo), and provided buffs such as Misery (+hit%). Because of this, Shadow Priests' damage was kept low. When Wrath hit, Blizzard switched to the replenishment model and buffed Shadow's damage to be in line with other classes. They felt that players found it more fun to actually be doing damage to the boss than to enable others to do more damage. Which in actuality is a case-by-case basis (I preferred BC's model), but whatever.

I'm not saying that Blizzard can't change their mind, they've done it before. Just look at the threat changes recently. I'm just saying it's probably pretty unlikely, no matter how bad I would want it.

SPriests could actually be competitive on certain encounters in TBC.

Now if you were a Ret Paladin and were threat capped with a bad 3% crit buff that most raids didn't need, then you were hooped. Rift has actually (or at least the last time I played it) had done a fairly good job of building a game that encouraged hybrid builds. Putting survivability into your spec over pure glass cannon min/maxing was actually a smart move.

My Wishlist...

  • Paladins don't get any nerfs...
  • Blizzard admits they screwed up retribution and reverts it to a late Lich King scheme.
  • Other healing classes get buffed to bring them up to Holy Paladin level.
  • Elite Quests... think group quests, but harder. Optional. But a challenge for the more serious players. Guild Wars did this to some success.
  • Path of the Titans, please
  • Make archeology something more than a blatant, boring time sink.
  • Announce skills will work differently in PvP and PvE across the board. Its obvious its needed and their pig headiness is pissing off people on both sides.
  • Make the leveling process worthwhile and not a mad dash to Max. How...I'm not quite sure...but sick of feeling like I'm not really playing the game until I max out.
  • Revamp Ulduar to be the first tier raid in the next expansion...and let it last long enough for most to actually clear it.
  • Come up with a way to keep raid content worthwhile for the duration of an expansion. Even if it isn't super exciting. It gets old seeing the first tier turned into a joke by 5 mans in the same expansion.

I'm greedy. What can I say?

Perhaps something with heals.

Yeah, that's why I mentioned a bard hybrid. Smiley: smile Although I'd be happy with a pure dps caster as well.

As far as a caster class is concerned I would like to see a Class that is a Clothie Tank. They would use Self Shielding to absorb damage, and would focus on dodging or delaying damage. They could even do something where they spread damage to other party members.

I don't know how they would do it, but I think it would be interesting.

Something to keep in interesting in WoW during that long lull between 4.3 and 5.0

The only thing on my wishlist for this year is hitting the pool bar with the guild for some over-priced drinks, mediocre quesadillas and laughs.

(well, that and a Pandaran Monk iPhone game =)

I want to meet up with the two women I met two years ago--Megan and Barbara. Played some Wow, drank shots at the bar and played with each other all night.

That's what's on my wishlist this year.

Last year was a bummer. Only hooked up once. She was ok, but not like the women of past years.

And NOTHING like Megan & Barb!

.

Isn't the point of tanking to keep damage OFF other party members?
