Nope

Yup

In many ways, yes, we are. We're marinated in American pop culture from all sides, with some other spices thrown in. We're really kind of like the ******* child of America and the UK: We have America's weight, Britain's love of Indian take-away restaurants, we say both "mate" and "*****" a lot and we have gigantic f*ckin' spidersevery nonhuman creature is at least 10 kinds of lethal. Yes, that include koalas. Hell, especially koalas.

Even the rabbits kill dangerous venomous snakes.

Come to Australia. You might accidentally get killed!! (If you don't like some animals, just scroll down so you can't see the visuals and listen to the song)

You needed a survey to tell you that?

Do you know what would have to happen to make stuff like stealing virtual currency illegal? You do understand that the changes needed to make that stuff illegal could end up destroying MMO gaming entirely?

Well in academic research you cant just say 'theft happens alot in XYZ game', you need to back it up with say a survey or whatever. I am not trying to make it illegal bud, I am coming up with a peice of technology to stop it from being stolen.

My company just took over Oceanic support for dealers and I was talking to our rep from Australia. I was telling him how freaked out my wife was when we found a black widow in the back yard and he was telling me how red backs are everywhere, he has a couple dozen in his house.

Nothing topped when I asked if they drink Fosters there and he said it was only good for feeding to koalas though.

lol Yeah, Fosters is mostly thought of as **** here. We export the crappy stuff and keep the good beers for ourselves, it seems.

For spiders here, though, the big ones (the ones that really creep me out) are usually the ones that aren't dangerous at all. Just big and creepy. The ones you don't want to get bitten by tend to be much smaller and they're not as common in areas full of humans as some people make it sound.

We are, however, the only country that eats the animals on our coat of arms (kangaroo and emu). So, there's that!

I'm a self proclaimed thief. I stole Pigtail's heart. She has to come get it, alone, naked, in the dark, down the alley on 12th Street, bring an umbrella.

Lares and Penates, would you please show enough professionalism to proofread your posts? The plural of thief isn't thief's, contractions use an apostrophe, misspelled words (peice) show up as such on Firefox, and so on. How are you going to write any kind of algorithm if you are so slack you can't even be assed to post like you stayed awake in your English classes?

In academic research, you support your points with proof. You could, far more effectively than by using a survey with questionable methodology and inadequate sample size, go straight to the industry. Bad surveys prove little more than that those who designed the survey have an inadequate understanding of the tool they're using.

Ahem! Your other work suggests that you're not being fully honest. You'll find we're odd here, we actually do check facts. Although you've presented this as an academic activity, it should also be noted that your current position is with the Australian Surveillance Studies Centre and your description of some of your work includes the following:

Quote:
The paper also proposes an approach for handling virtual property theft based on improvements to laws related to virtual property and theft, improvements to the virtual world software components and better regulation from governments.

Look, you think you can cyber bully me just because I'm sixteen and you're a big shot PhD student. I don't have to listen to you. I'm the editor of my school newspaper, so I'm published too. Ms. Concepción says I'm the best writer in the ninth grade, even better than the boys. I know the difference between two, too and to Mr. Surveychimp. I know how to use your and you're, but you don't. You're going to college, you're supposed to be smart. Writing isn't that hard if you just use your brain; you make it sound like something really hard.

I have very little time with my commitments. This is a video game forum, forgive me for not analyzing each sentence I write to get the perfect structure, grammar and avoiding slang. I am a published author, I can do it, I am not going to extend to doing it on video games forums and within video games. Your the first I have met who does.

Also the algorithm is already written and is working quite well, as intended, thanks for your concern.

This survey is a small study I am conducting on the side to determine how 'cyber thieves' MIGHT be going about their activities. You take the results with a grain of salt, we know it, I know it. The methodology and survey is fine, its been checked by doctors and professors. You can never have a survey perfect, you just have to try achieve the best to suit the purpose.

I know your trolling, so I will take what you say with a grain of salt. Do something with your life don't waste it on here posting disparaging comments on my character and research methods.

For someone who claims to be a professional you sure don't act like it. You've been published? So what? Sarah Palin is published too. Rhodekylle isn't the only one that watches grammar. Just because it's online or a video game forum doesn't mean you have to lack writing skills, it's just an excuse for you to be lazy.

The comment about doing something with our life is really a poor defense. Using poor grammar and your excuse is that you've been published and it's a video game forum so it's okay, lazy and/or stupid. Using poor research methods is also lazy and/or stupid. Sure it's been checked by doctors and professors, they don't really care because they just handing out projects to thousands of students a year. If you want to be a professional then don't just make claims but start showing it. It doesn't matter where you are, online or off, video game forum or not. Show some damn tact and professionalism.

Eh, mine was some intern work that got typed up in a memo that got rolled into a lecture and paper. I was surprised my name ended up on the thing, but I was working with good folks. Fun work too, I needed to work equations out by hand to verify the computer model but when I figured out an easier way to do things ("I could do all this with a couple of nested loops") they let me run with it. Add a few days to learn basic Fortran syntax, type everything up, and then I got to go back to working it by hand to verify my loops which verified the real program. Odd that I *still* feel so good about what amounted to making extra work for myself.

That actually sounds like pretty cool stuff.

My first-author paper was a standards dataset that we complied comparing several different instruments. It was really a pretty simple project that got a surprising amount of traction (and even a Nature citation!). Since then though I've gotten myself into a job that provides instrument expertise for other people's projects. The work is a lot more interesting, but my name ends up squashed in the middle a lot. Smiley: lol

Yeeeaah ... This OP makes me sad to be Australian. Deakin University is actually pretty good, so it's all the more tragic that an egotistical, unprofessional little mouth-breather is here dropping the name for themself. OP, we already have a Prime Minister that's a ginger, we don't need you dragging this nation down too.

You misunderstood, I was not gloating about it, I was pointing out I know how to write properly when needed. On a World of Warcraft forum or even in-game chat I don't plan to scrutinize every sentence I type. It just isn't going to happen.

If you knew me in person outside of this you would know that isn't the case, when you have a barrage coming in from every 2nd person (haters) and stand up for yourself people view it badly. The you might view the PM badly but at least she is out there doing something with her life, trying to help a lot of people too I imagine.
