Transmogrify is defigned as "to change in appearance or form, especially strangely or grotesquely; transform." If you haven't heard, Blizzard has placed a picture on the WoW Facebook page with a picture of 2 Ethereals next to the Arcane Reforger with the titles of "Void Storage" and "Transmogrifier".

Besides the idiotic rumors that Ethereals are going to be a playable race in the next expansion, most discussion centers on the possibility that these 2 NPCs will have the sole purpose of storing excess gear and changing the appearance of gear.

What do you guys think?

Here's a link to the pic if you haven't seen it:

Edit: Becuase I has fat fingers.

Are they supposed to look like the dudes from Burning Crusade? It's an interesting teaser that's for sure. I'm pretty sure Blizz has already said they're going to give us access to dying our gear at some point. I remember them making NPC's based on the girls from The Guild, that were in Booty Bay. Still waiting on that though. =x

They are the dudes from TBC, the ones you could find in Mana-Tombs, southwestern Nagrand, and all over Netherstorm.

I wouldn't mind the "Must Raid for T11 Shoulders" as much if I had shoulders that actually looked decent.

Here's hoping that the appearance changing (if that is what this is) will help me fix that and other things (like the Belt of the Ferocious Wolf... EEEEW) that I don't really like about my character's appearance.

Seriously. Being all orange (other than purple cape of course) except for my turquoise toilet bowl shoulders is killing me.

I hate wearing shoulders that look exactly like the PvP Shoulders, TBH.

Well, ok, who am I kidding? I AM wearing PvP shoulders on my one tank.... but on the other character, some idiot healer said "Eew, you're wearing PvP?" .... err, no, I wasn't.

But he didn't give me time to say that before he bailed group.

They act like one piece of PvP gear is suddenly going to make me a bad tank or something. They'd rather that instead of wearing 358 PvP they'd rather I wear 325 quested junk.

Or a 318 green. =x I think the negative rep of PvP gear for PvE is rather silly. If there's one of two pieces, it isn't going to be that big of a deal. Now if they're in full PvP gear, that could be an issue.

Change your character from something that looks like this:

into something more like this?

Yeah, I'll pay what the Ethereals are charging.

Smiley: lol

Well within reason of course. I'm not spending 50g to edit something I'm going to out-level in 2 hours.

Exactly. Getting tired of people throwing a fit over the least bit of resilience they find on your gear, without just for second looking at the bigger picture.

PvP gear might be less than ideal, given that resilience is now a total waste for anything but PvP, but level 371 armor has enough of a budget to make up for that for the most part when compared to what would be available otherwise. Base stats are significantly higher, so that ultimately you're not losing more than a gem's worth in a secondary stat. If you're wearing 2 pieces of PvP gear, you're getting a quite significant stat bonus on top, evening things out even more.

Some classes have rather sweet bonuses on their PvP gloves too, and it's not exactly easy to put things like a flat 2% FoL crit chance up against some mysterious combat rating (in case of my Holy Pally)

Hell yeah, if you got good PvE gear available to you, it would be dumb to keep using the PvP crutch, but until then..

Besides... a fancy helm from Nefarian just won't keep people from standing in bad stuff, ignoring basic tactics, or generally being stupid.

I'd probably change all my gear into Druid T4. As a feral it was my first experience with matching gear, so it has a heavy nostalgia factor.

EDIT: oh and Ranseur of Hatred shall become the Squid on a Stick.

The T4 druid helmet is the only one I never minded showing. All others in the game look so bad that I generally have the display deactivated on all my toons. Can't stand looking at them.

But they really gotta do something in the ways of customizing. My warrior has been stuck with the same damn sword model ever since I stepped into Stonecore the first time.

I'm on a RP server, so at least while you're in town you don't get too tired of everybody looking exactly the same.

But... looking good, with an individual touch to it, AND having the latest stats on your stuff.. that's sorta like a wet dream.

Makes me think of Calvin and Hobbes.

But if this a weapon and armor visual appearence customization that would be sweet. Many other MMO's already allow you to slot a "outfit" or appearance over your armor and WoW has needed that for some time.

Thing's are not quite as bad as the "A rainbow puked on me" gear days of old but as others have said it is still anoying to have a nice looking matching set and then get one piece that is totally off.

Yeah... Not to sound like a wounded puppy, as I definitely jumped to that hope, why go straight to idiotic? I mean, NO one knows what this means, it is all speculation. I feel like it is a bit silly to point your finger and call people idiotic for that. I really want a cool and different looking race.

Anyway, I shouldn't cry about it on an internet forum, guess I just want to know why you think Ethereals as a race is totally out of the question?

If we have to climb under a cardboard box to make it happen I'll do it just for the lulz.

Another theory, just for fun:

Void storage = used for BoA transfers between servers
Transmogrifier = race change purchased with gold

For additional lulz: It'll be done by a Gnome named Kevin and his Worgan sidekick, Bobs.

I think Kevin would be better suited to be a goblin.

I didn't call it idiotic, but I'll answer your question. It's idiotc because the only new thing in that picture is <Void Storage> and <Transmogrifier>. Ethereals have been around forever. If they were teasing at Ethereals being a playable race, wouldn't they show a picture that was more like the view you get while playing your character, something from behind and slightly above the character's point of view.

That would be spiff. I have a couple I wouldn't mind race-changing but not badly enough to actually pay for it. I'm also currently debating which of my 85's is going to get the boot from my Ally guild to take all my BoA stuff to another server to raise Hordies with.

Having nearly all the BoA gear doesn't help me on my server with 10 toons already, most maxed out - just taking up bank space now.

I've been thinking about how this "Transmogrifier" could actually work, especially with Blizzard stating over and over that they're concerned with growing databases and all...

Adding a costume tab like many players have been asking for would fit right into the "not enough resources" category. You would very much have to double the equipment fields (slots) for each character, with the exception of rings and trinkets. I don't think that's likely to happen.

What sounds reasonable, though, would be to take your piece of maybe T12 gear, put it into a slot on the Transmogifier's interface, add the piece of gear you want for looks to another slot, and for a small fee that bandage dude will just transfer the stats, destroying the original pieces in the progress.

Well, the destruction part could actually be something where that Void Storage could come into play. Gear might not be gone for good, but retrievable from Void Storage for a small fee.

However it's done, though... I'd sooo go back to Ahn'Qiraj with my female toons for the Vestments of the Shifting Sands and all its variations...
