The thing that bugs me about those minimalist UIs is that some of the bars that are there are just hanging out there in space. I have this weird thing where I have to have everything connected to the edges of the screen, whether touching directly or through other pieced of UI and even useless decoration.
I think it's just that I don't like having my view split by a line, I would rather it just be gone after a certain point in the screen then to be interrupted and then continue. Of course, I haven't played in a long time, so my opinion is useless to both you and me.
