It is? Good. Because that is so not worth anything, lol.
Digg, Digg, Digg, you and the majority of the complainers out there need to watch the 2011 fanfest presentation. They explain why Incarna seems so "weak" for an expansion.
In case you don't want to sit through almost two hours of it, I'll highlight:
Most of this expansion's oomph is taking place in the shadows. The main news is that they've moved over to a new release strategy that is all about releasing stuff as soon as it's ready rather than stockpiling changes for expansions.
They released
CarbonUI a patch or two before Incarna, which allowed them to implement the 3D UI you see in Captain's Quarters now in Incarna. Their plan is to have it everywhere, as seen in their
trailers.
And speaking of Captain's Quarters, it was the beginning of full station interaction. They're going to release more areas further into the expansion. Think Mass Effect and the Citadel. It takes time, though, because they're building everything from scratch. They've got their own engine and Nvidia is inventing stuff for them to use as they go.
Take the new 3D characters you can move around as in the Captain's Quarters, for example. Nvidia managed to stuff some of
this into it. Physically simulated clothing and hair, baby!
And they also upgraded their hardware this year, or late 2010, so now the server can handle fleet battles with up to 2500 pilots engaged in combat. 3000 is playable, 2000 is lag free, if I remember correctly.
And I imagine they're also busy working on
this.
So they can work on
this.
TL;DR version:
- Less data each expansion release.
- Same or more data during each expansion's lifetime.
For the 1h 46m video,
clicky. Warning: May overdose on bad jokes, nervousness or nerd fapping. Interesting watch, though, if you're interested in the future of the game.
