Activation Key: Potential ProblemFollow

#1 Jun 03 2011 at 2:53 PM Rating: Decent
Right, I had to get rid of WoW (exams, depressing moment getting rid of it haha) and anyway, I have installed WoW again, installed and upgraded to Burning Crusade, and I have Lich King and Cataclysm waiting. Cataclysm's no issue, but I bought Lich King second hand from a guy who said I believe that the activation key was used..now, it's installing, but when it comes to upgrading on battlenet that's not going to work is it (if it is used)
i don't see any place to purchase only the key, only a place to buy the game for like £30! which is annoying when I have the bloody disc. It might work, bloody hell, but if it doesn't, any advice from anyone would be amazing, thanks a lot!

If the person you bought Wrath from had already activated it on his battle.net account the game is useless to you. You can buy your own hard copy from a store or you can buy a digital download copy from Blizzard.

Yeah, you should be able to buy the digital download on battle.net

I don't know how much it will cost, but I'd guess around $20 US now that Cataclysm is out. Never ever buy activation keys for anything from people. 9/10 you are going to get ripped off.

Did I entirely waste my money buying the disc. The digital download is £30! More than what I paid. I am so pissed!

Note for the future- If the price of something is to good to be true, it's most likely because it is.

Resist the temptation to look for 'alternate' ways to activate the disk you have. However unpleasant it is to feel like you wasted your money, it would be more annoying to get banned.

Just to repeat more of what everybody else has said, yeah you wasted your money. The key is actually the only thing you really buy when you pay for the games, since you can download the actual data for free off of battle.net whether you have an active WoW account or not.

The bad thing is, because the guy who sold it to you SAID the activation key was used, he didn't exactly rip you off. He just didn't tell you that the disc is of no actual value to you (which you really should have known, given the fact that you already played once.)

All together, I hope you didn't waste too much money. Just try to remember that people will nearly always try to make a fast buck out of your ignorance. BE WARY!
