Hello, this is not a thread where you can role play. I'm making this thread to teach people who are interesting in role playing with their characters (assuming anyone on this site does any of that, I dunno...) how to role play without twisting the lore.
Here is what you should and should not do with your character's story:
What you should not do:
Rule # 1. THE BIGGEST RULE OF ALL IS TO NOT TAKE CREDIT FOR ANY MAJOR OR EVEN MINOR LORE EVENTS AT ALL. In other words, do not say your character killed the lich king or any other raid boss or even any dungeon boss. Lorewise, there are many many many adventurers on both factions, any of them could've killed the lich king or hogger. Don't take credit for it, because somewhere else in the game, some other player is having their characters take credit for killing that same boss. So don't take credit for killing any boss, or any major lore event at all.
Rule #2. Don't be a God-Mode Mary Sue type character. This means that you should not make your character some super godly powered being that can do anything and destroy anyone. You will be /ignored by any sane role player instantly. God Mode Mary Sue characters are boring, just don't do it. Please.
Rule #3. Do not bend lore or add things that are not part of the lore to suit your roleplay characters. As in, don't make your character the offspring of a human and a dragon. It can't happen lore wise, so don't do it. You're not Richard Knaak, you can't just break lore as you please. Also, don't associate your character with any major lore characters. Like, don't say one of your characters is the secret child of Sylvanas. Seriously. Blizzard makes the lore, you role play accordingly to that lore.
Your character is also not from earth. As far as we know, earth doesn't even exist in warcraft. Don't make some silly flop story that your character is a human from earth who magically got teleported to Azeroth.
Rule #4. Your character is not a vampire. He/She will never be a vampire. So don't do it.
Rule #5. Your character is not a Jedi either.
Rule #6. No you can't be a Sith either.
What you CAN do:
#1. Your characters can be elite soldiers. Your character is an adventurer. Therefore, you are, rank wise, comparable to a storm trooper. Or any normal soldier. Yes like I said you can role play your characters as elite soldiers, just not GOD KING SUPER SAIYAN VAMPIRE SITH OVERLORD JEDI OF AZEROTH.
#2. Read the lore of your character's race. If, for example, you are a dwarf player, you are can only role play as an Ironforge dwarf. I'm not 100% on if you can roleplay as a wildhammer, since they all have tattoos. However, if your character was a wildhammer abandoned at birth and raised by bronzebeard dwarves....that would explain lack of tattoos . If you are a night elf, your character was born long before the night elves created teldrassil. This is because it was not very long ago that teldrassil was created. Your night elf character is not a teenager born in teldrassil. He/she was born long before it was created, since night elves age slowly, your character would be an adolescent while over 100 years old.
So yes, basically, that's all you need to know. I hope this helps people to better roleplay in the lore.
