You mean Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor? Smiley: tongue Kalimdor is part of Azeroth. That's what the planet is called.

Umm what? Are you asking people what some of their favorite memories of WoW are?

I have to say for some strange reason to me questing in Zangermarsh while listening to Killswitch Engage sticks out. I don't know why particularly, but for some reason every time I head back to Outlands the memories come back and the same few songs pop into my head.

I guess, for some reasons I got over Southshore and remembered the epic battle I had with my sons by my side and how much we laugh. LFD changed everything, no need to visit the world.

Nostalgia? How about having to recruit, ride, and assemble your group at dungeon entrances? Then having to battle your way through any Horde/Alliance camped at said entrance? Good times.

Baron runs? Anyone remember those? Getting feared by those damn Gargoyles in Strat and pulling half the instance? More good times.

And yes, epic Southshore and Tarren Mill battles are recalled fondly. Also those days long AV battles bring back some fond memories. Best of times.

Pre dungeon finder, getting a group required you to sit in one of the major cities so you could use trade chat. LFD actually let people not sit in town staring at their chat window.

I remember my first trip to Westfall for the druid Aquatic Form quest. I wasn't sure how far down I had to swim, so I asked around in general chat for a warlock to cast Unending Breath on me before I started swimming out.

I also remember the naked level 1 gnome run from the starting area to the gates of ZG. Half the guild was running, the other half was trying to kite mobs so their AoEs would kill us. =P

One thing I don't miss was the LONG run from SW/IF to SM. Dieing a few times to get the WPL flight point made the trek a little more bearable.

Remember the BIG SWIM to Westfall for nightelf level 6 who wants to go to SW for leveling.

Swim? I ran past about a dozen crocs and some orcs going through Wetlands on my way to Loch Modan. Get killed, run back, travel a few hundred feet, rinse and repeat.

To be fair, I thought Eastern Kingdoms was called Azeroth for a long time, too. The original cinematic movie certainly didn't help things.

That thing is still so epic.

That is what most people still do in the LFD world.

Yeah and unfortunately people building groups has been replaced by 300% more trolling. Don't get me wrong, I like the LFD tool and heirlooms. I feel like giving us only a bonus to quest xp (not monster kills) and limiting the daily usage of the dungeon finder would have kept the world much more alive. I love rolling alts and it's a bit sad to level up 10-15 times without seeing one other person. No allies to fight, no one to group up with for a quest real quick.. That's what I really miss. I miss people actually going out into the world on foot to do things. Coming from FFXI previously, this is especially ****** for me. I remember back in Vanilla and BC there were tons of people out leveling and questing. Even in the beginning of Wrath I still ran into many people, allies and horde, while out leveling in places like STV and Ashenvale. I truly miss that and I wish there were some way for Blizzard to encourage players to be out doing things again. After an entire redesign of Azeroth though, I'm not sure what else they could do. :(

It's a confusing thing, to be certain.
Quote:

In Warcraft: Orcs & Humans the term Azeroth refers to the kingdom in most cases, and it can be implied that it is a world in only one quote. It can be assumed that, when the game was released, the kingdom and land of Azeroth were one and the same. At the time, the kingdom of Azeroth was the only part of the world known to the player, thus it is possible that the reference to the world and other undefined uses of the term were actually referring to the same thing but were given different uses in the later games.

Warcraft: The Roleplaying Game wrote:
The term Azeroth is used to refer the world, the kingdom and the continent. It is also used as an alternate name of the Eastern Kingdoms.

WoW wrote:
Throughout this manual and in the game itself, you will find the name Azeroth used in two different contexts. Azeroth is both the name of the world of Warcraft, and the name of one of the three continents that comprise the Eastern Kingdoms, the landmass opposite of Kalimdor on the world map. The other two continents of the Eastern Kingdoms are Loch Modan in the center and Lordaeron in the north. Sometimes you will see reference to Azeroth the world, and other times you will see reference to Azeroth the continent.

Playing on a PvE server meant never having to deal with that last part. Smiley: grin

Getting fear bombed by the gargoyles and pulling other packs only meant that your group was either taking risks by not clearing some packs or simply was not pulling the enemies back far enough. Still, some of my favorite memories of vanilla WoW are of the times when that precise thing happened and we adapted and survived.

And if we're talking about real fun, 45 minute Baron runs were awesome, especially when the your group was in mostly blues with only a mere couple raid epics. Fun that would not be seen again until the ZA bear runs, IMO.

Also, the latest Nerf Now! being about this very subject makes me think it would be pretty cool if the author was a poster or lurker here.

I'm curious as to when the name Azeroth was givin to the world. Up until The Sundering wasn't the whole single land mass called Kalimdor? Or has it always been Azeroth with the single contenent named Kalimdor?

This is just personal speculation, but I suspect that it was called Kalimdor by the older races(Night Elves, Trolls) and that some of the younger ones(humans, dwarves, etc) are the ones who began to call it Azeroth, having never learned the old name for it.

Rawdeal, we need to sit down and have a chat. The reason Smunks comment was amusing was when you have a mouth full of liquid and read something really funny it tends to get all over what you are looking at. Vomit doesn't work quite like that. I have yet to see someone find something so funny they threw up all over their computer when they read / saw it.

Whew, glad we had that talk.
