Auto graphics API change?Follow

Weird thing keeps happening about once ever three days: In the advanced tab of my graphics, the graphic API section will change from DirectX 11 to DirectX 9 by itself; which is a huge FPS hit if I don't notice the change. So before I log in (having gotten used to it happening), I check the options because you have to restart game if you have to change it back. It's not a huge deal, just more of a pain-in-butt type of thing.

Anyway, anyone else have or had this problem? Or any possible solutions on how to fix it from auto changing on me once or twice a week?

The exact same thing happens to me too.
As a plus, /console gxreload reloads the graphics engine without restarting the game, so that should save you some time.
Or, if you have the ~ console activated, just open it and type in gxreload.

I need to buy a GFX card that supports DX11. Smiley: frown

I scored a 430 for $70.... shipped. I know parts are more expensive in the EU, but true DX11 cards are getting cheaper and cheaper now.

Also, /console gxreload didn't work for me, for some reason. I guess it's 'enable the console or restart.'

The 430 costs about $100 here. I'm planning on getting a 580, though. Just need to man up and withdraw the cash before I have second thoughts.

Edit: I'm looking at a completely new rig here, because I figured I might as well snatch an i7 in the process and a new hard drive (weakest component right now). Just need to find a way to withdraw $1,800 without my heart breaking in my chest.

If you're looking to upgrade a hard drive, go for an SSD. I've heard really good things.

I just build myself a new rig. Went for a i5 tho, as there's no valid reason to spend extra $ on an i7. Also put in a SSD drive, which is by far the best thing I've ever done to tune up a pc. All in all, I paid 7.500 dkk for the new rig, including a 460 nvidia card (had that from old rig). Mazra, go have a look at Proshop.dk if you feel comfortable building it yourself.

Solid-state drives are expensive per gigabyte, and the largest I've seen only held 250-ish GB. Smiley: frown

You only need a 120GB SSD, just for the OS and maybe wow. The rest can be on a normal HD.

It's a pleasure to go from power off, to playing wow in 40 sec :D

It's a lot of money for a slightly faster boot time, though.

A 120GB SSD costs about the same as a 2TB 7200rpm regular.

I'm with you, Mazra. I'm going to be in the market for RAM or a HDD next, as I only have 3GB of RAM and a grand total of 200GB of HDD space between two drives.
I was looking at SSD, and it's like paying 3x as much for 2x the speed. If I had a laptop, I'd be all over 'em, but I've got a desktop, and for a peasant with 4 kids, a SSD isn't even an option.

I don't mind my computer taking its sweet time to boot up, I usually do something else in the meantime. Smiley: tongue

Mine doesn't boot up often enough to bother. I only reboot it once every few weeks.

Pretty mellow, considering the stuff I use. By some odd coincidence, all my computer's parts are 'green' since green is cheap.
I turn off the monitor, which SUCKS power being an old CRT.
All the lights I use are CFL or LED, all my TVs are LCD, all my devices are 'green' so I can afford to run an extra 400watts of lights for... purposes.... and my computer.
