In the interest of full disclosure, I did buy $1400 worth of gold in 2009. It was from Tiffany's, so I think I overpaid, but...shinies!

Pfft. Diamonds are boring. I like my shinies to have color. And yes I realize that diamonds do come in colors, but those are even more crazy expensive.

Bands -- Wife's is red gold and thinner than mine (regular gold).
Engagement ring is Palladium with a yellow sapphire.
In the 37 years it has been since I bought my wife her wedding band, she has lost the original diamond, and its replacement. It was pretty, but I'm happy with what ever she chooses to wear at this point.
I am hoping I will be able to buy wedding bands soon. We are waiting until I can find a job and be financially stable before we get married.

I got laid-off three months after getting married. That was nice. Our first year of marriage was me being out of work for nine months.
