name change process questionFollow

Hey everyone. So, I want to change the name of one of my characters, but to ensure that it's not taken (and to save it before anyone else in the world (of warcraft) decides to take it), I made a level 1 with the name I want. Now, if I delete the level 1 and then wait for 20 minutes after logging out, will the name be available and will I be able to name change my other toon to that name? Or will it be locked for a certain number of days? Thanks.

You don't even have to wait. Once the name change process is finished, you can delete the level 1 alt and give your character that name.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I'm still a little confused. The way you said it sounded like I name change to the name I want then delete the alt with the name, but I thought you couldn't have 2 toons on the same server with the same name. Anyway, if you mean what I think you meant, then I can delete the toon with the name and then name change to that name right away since theres no lock on the name. Is that correct?

Again, thanks for the quick reply :]

Yes, the second thing you said is correct. Once your character is flagged for the name change, you can delete the level 1 alt with the name saved, and then proceed. Sorry if I didn't word that clearly. =x

When you go online and pay the money for the name change then the next time you log in you will see that character as normal. When you try to enter the world you will be prompted to change that characters name. So depending how fast you are with deleting and logging in nobody else would have a chance to claim it.

There are no locks on names. Feel free to test it yourself by making a character with a name then deleting then making that same character again. Works just fine.

I think they may have changed the namechange process--I recently switched one of my hunters back to his original name (long story, lots of character shuffling, had to wait the 90 days) and it asked me to input the new name on the website, not on the character selection screen.

Deleting the lowbie shouldn't be a problem, though. I was able to delete the placeholder I had and complete the process with no wait time at all.

There are locks on names. Just not within a person's account. Supposedly, no one will be able to claim the name Willowberi on Proudmoore for three months after I changed my druid's name.
