The first time I reached the level cap was on my hunter. I was questing in Kirin'Var village in Netherstorm. I dinged 70, set off some fireworks, jumped around a little bit and yelled "woo hoo!" to the whole zone. I was a bit excited, as I could finally get working on this end-game thing people were talking about.
Well, that's my story. So where were you the first time you reached the cap?

My first level cap was 80. I believe I was in Storm Peaks. The first thing I did when I hit 80 I believe I found someone forming a Sunwell so I hopped in. Thor'idal dropped, I lost the roll. I know it was old content but it was my first level cap and first raid so it was some good starter experience before going into Wrath raids.
Eastern Plagueland. First thing I did was grab a flight back to get my Epic land mount.
My warlock hit 70 questing in Netherstorm sometime late 2007. I bet I have a screenshot somewhere. I immediately hearthed and went to get flying training.

I was a warlock in EPL. Hit 60 the day before BC came out.
Undercity, on my Alliance mage, I dinged 60 by discovering the city 
I guess my first was actually my Paladin, and I think I did that in EPL, nothing special.

80 - Stormpeaks. Ironically it was a small Exp Gain from discovering a new area.
85 - I honestly don't recall.

Other than it being level 60 on my Rogue, I have no idea.
Considering the state of the game back then, I most likely dinged while doing some quest somewhere in Eastern Plaguelands or wherever. Not like you'd grind dungeons or battlegrounds to level up back then.

It would have been level 70 on my Warrior (since she was only around level 50 when BC came out) but I'm not sure where she was though most likely it was in Netherstorm. I really don't remember where any of my characters were when they hit the cap actually. It's weird since it ought to have been a memorable experience...
I do remember exactly where my first character was when she hit level 40 because I was so excited to finally get to wear the plate I had started accumulating and buy her first mount that I spent hours grinding the gold to buy. She was in Desolace killing Magram Centaurs to build up my Gelkis rep. :)

I know 70 was as above, 80 was by the Avatar of Freya in Scholazar. I was like 1k short after turning a quest, and went out to kill some mobs to hit 80. For 85 I don't really have a clue. Well I know it was doing archeology, and I want to say it was at the fossil field by the dragons in the wetlands, but I could just be making that up.

Level 60 Nelf Rogue. I was in Silithus. BC came out about a month after but I did get in a few ZG/MC runs and lots of strat/scholo in that month.
That was also the month that they changed PvP epics to honor point farming so I ran A TON of AV. Got my super sexy PvP dagger about a week before BC came out hehe.

Good question. Iirc, that was on my first character, a Dwarf Priest. Back then Silithus still sucked and I never went to Winterfall, so I can only imagine it was in the Eastern Plaguelands or around Blackrock Mountain. Come to think of it, I'm getting confused; I actually think it was in a Scholomance run, but that's impossible as that was still a 10-man back then and you didn't get experience in there.

I was in Silithus. That much I'm relatively certain of. I want to say it was from turning in the quest for killing the elite scorpion that everyone was always looking to group up for, but it could have been more mundane(I definitely did that soloing part, just can't remember if that's the quest that dinged me or if I just did it the same night as when I dinged).
Shadowmoon Valley. I leveled all the way to 70 as a Blood Elf Rogue, then decided that I hated rogue and immediately created a new priest, who has remained my main.

As far as Protein's actual intended question, level 60 on my lock in WPL. I think it was doing the group quest where you kill that Lich in the center of Anderhal. I can't believe I actually remember that...
The answer to the other question, I am sad to report that my first time was in my bedroom when I was 18. In retrospect it was boring, but at the time it was fun and exciting. I've had lots more fun places since then though. =x
My warlock ding'd in EPL a few months before Burning Crusade. Unguilded and the epitome of casual, so it took a loooong time. But in some ways I miss the open-ended exploration and meandering lack of focus of my vanilla experience. No hurry, no raid politics, no "gogo gear min/max", no clam-stacking....
The other "first" was in a Honda CRX in a Balboa Park parking lot (near the Aerospace Museum). Oh, the memories!

I couldn't say with any certainty where any of my characters have made it to the cap, and I've capped a lot.

...on my draenei in Netherstorm during the BC expansion, 80... I hit in that apothecary place where you had to get the unforsaken dude all of the right ingredients for his cauldron (fun quest that is) and 85... hrmmm... Uldum I think... right after all the Harrison Jones' quests.
