Have you changed the realm back to the one that your main character is on? When you logout and back on, it usually takes you to the character sheet of the realm you were last on.

ETA: Just in case you didn't know, when you're signing on and are on the character selection page, there should be an option to the right to change realm (or something of the sort).

That was it - thanks for responding - I have trouble with small print in the red on black color scheme and missed the little "change realm" bar

Not a problem, and don't worry about being sorry for asking questions. We know you're new to the game, so unless you want to just randomly push a bunch of buttons hoping something would fix your issue, asking is the best way to go. =)

While on the subject of changing realms, Whats the best way of trying a PVP realm. I have a feeling that starting a new character n one would be suicidal, which might be totally wrong. At the same time, it doesn't seem like an established character can go realm-surfing. I know the log-in screen gives you an option of changing realms - presumably for a fee. Is that the only way?

You're a scholar now! yay!

Anywho, to answer your question, yes the only way to have an already established toon transfer to a different realm requires a fee (if I remember correctly it's $25? No more than $30 for sure, but somewhere between $10-30). I've attempted a few times on a PVP realm by starting a fresh toon. Depending on where you're at, you usually can level up quite a bit before you get targeted.

A side note on toons transferring realms, they do sometimes offer free realm transfers from one realm to another, but it's usually to lighten up heavy realms to the lighter ones, and is only for specified realms.

If you log onto your character and you are on a different world than the one you logged on, your account may have been hacked. I would change my password.

That wasn't it, and now I realize I shouldn't have killed the original question.

What happened was that I tried to log in during the Tuesday upgrade period. I couldn't get in to my characters, but just so I could play, i rolled a new character in a "random" realm. (I'd already forgotten just how fast those first 5-6 levels come).

Anyway, when I went to log in later, the only character(question: does 'toon' mean 'character'?) I could see was the new one. One I figured out how to change realms, everything was fine (OK, my play kinda sucked, but the game was fine).

(sigh) one MORE question: Do guilds cross ralm boundaries or ae they unique to a specific realm? I think its the latter but I'm not sure.

(edited for content)

Yes : Toon = Character. When someone says "your main," it's the main toon that you usually play the most (sometimes this is a result of your very first character that you play often, but there are occasions where people switch their mains to a different toon they play the most).

Yes : Guilds are unique to the specific realm they're on. They can't do anything cross-realm (unless the whole guild transfers to a different realm and rebuilds itself).

=)

My theory is that she has too many posts. Look at isyris for example, she's got barely any posts and she's got the highest karma you can have: her posts are default rated excellent.

I don't have much experience with PvP realms but I do know that you aren't subject to being attacked by the opposing faction until you leave the 1-20 level areas. Unless you actually attack an opposing player or otherwise 'flag' yourself for PvP, you can quest mostly unhindered until you venture out into 'contested' territory. I have heard that there isn't as much ganking (high level players attacking low level players) going on these days but I'm sure it still happens. If you play on a Horde dominated PvP server as a Horde character, you are much less likely to get attacked than if you play an Alliance character on such a server.

As you have discovered, you can create characters on multiple realms and it only costs you extra if you wish to move one from one realm to another. You are limited to creating no more than ten characters on a single realm and to creating no more than fifty characters on one account. You can also pay to change your character's race, gender and even their faction.

I've determined I'm not cool enough =P.

Either way, I don't mind. I like helping (at least helping those that are competent lol).

Pfft. You're plenty cool enough. You just need to only post helpful stuff and you'll get guru in no time.

Heh, yeah that's probably more accurate. Although granted I don't think any of the female posters here are elitists by any stretch of the mind.

Karma is never frozen. Just by 10k posts you have a theoretical minimum of 20k rates. It would take something like 2000 rates to even move the rating a fraction of a point.

So, yeah, if you don't get your desired title before 10k (or even 5k) posts, you're pretty much screwed.

Someone should make it their job to karma camp people and fix the system - one rate at a time. Like Batman, but with little colored arrows.

Except not me, because I like not being banned.

I know there were a few times a while back I was being karma camped by someone that didn't have thick skin. Someone doesn't like one thing you say in a thread and then they attack you throughout the thread. I've reported a couple of times where I felt I was being camped. Not sure what was done by Kao, but it was the past. Not a big deal anymore.

I'm just happy to help out when I can. Even when I try to have patience with those from a different country (I don't remember their name but we had one a while back that no one could really understand).
