That's a nifty AddonFollow

Have you found an addon lately that you like? Is there one that does a small task, but really well, one that you wouldn't want to give up? Let us know what it is. I for one would enjoy exploring your pick.

Personally, I find organizing my bags to be a useful addon function. I have 120 bag slots, so things could get pretty messy. I was a long time ArkInventory user, but switched to a new one a few days ago. That one is Adibags. What makes it cool is that by exploring the option checkboxes, you can really make it tidy your bag into nice sections. You can have it stack all of one item, and you can move items from one section to another by simply dragging and dropping them on a section title. New items added to your bag go right up top in a "New" section, so they can be found easily, and of course you can search by name.

How cool does Adibags look? As an example, here is my 120 slot bag:

You may want to give it a try. What's an addon you like and why?

Postal AddOn over at Curse.

Simply the option to open all mail.
Simple task but when you work the AH a lot you sometimes get a ton of mail you need to open, it does it all in one click.

That's pretty cool Dadanox, I'll have to take a look at that.

A few of my favorites are NeedtoKnow(an event timer kind of like Power Auras except it's bars instead of icons), Overachiever (an achievement tracker), and tidy plates.

Mik's Scrolling Combat Text.

I didn't realize how much I needed it until Patch 4.1 broke it.

To dadanox: You can set up Arkinventory in the same way. I use ark, and I have my bags sorted pretty much like on the pic.

To Mazra: Mik's been updated twice in the last few days, so it's up and running again.

Was running a day after the patch via user fixes. I also couldn't stand not having MSCT running.

I've switched all my toons over to the Tidy Tank plates version of tidy plates. Soooooooo much nicer.

Good news. Used the userfix that Horse mentioned. So far no problems.

I did sorting with Arkinventory as well. Either program is a great bag manager. With Adibags, if I decide to move my Hearthstone from the "Junk" group to "Devices", all I have to do is drag and drop it onto the title of the group, and the "New" section is great for finding what you recently picked up. I'm sure I could also have done better at customizing my Arkinventory if I had put forth a little more time on it.

The main thing is that sorted, organized bags are cool. There are several addons that will automatically give you exactly that. Just like Auctioneer vs Auctionator, each has its strengths.

NeedToKnow has really helped me improve my druid healing (well that and a 3min cooldown on tranquility). I gave up on grid as most of my favourite additions kept being updated really late and I was having trouble keeping LB on the tank. Once LB falls off it's a race to try and stack it up again before everybody dies (3 wasted GCDs and lost clearcasting procs makes it quite bad to lose) and as LB mostly fell off when there was lots of healing needed (as that's when I was paying least attention to the tanks buffs) that was not a good situation.

With NeedToKnow I have a nice bar which show the duration left on LB, how many stacks and also a line to indicate when I need to cast Nourish/HT to refresh LB, so that I know whether I have time for that or need to use LB to refresh.

I'm also using it for timers so I know exactly when my rebirth and innervate will be off cooldown so I don't have to mouse over the spell to see when it will be ready or make a guess from looking at the icon.

I had a little trouble at first because I set my bars up but they didn't seem to be doing anything. Took me a little while to work out that there is a config mode and a play mode and the bars won't show timers in config mode.

It lets me have quick and clear access to the information I need and it has really helped calm me down when healing. Takes a bit of set up (and working what I want to know and where to put it) but is definitely something I see myself using on all my toons.

Bartender!

Bartender helped me move from 'clicking' to keybinds and now I would feel lost without it.

I keep reading out this JS Hunter Bar addon over at the mmo hunter forums for a great focus bar, which is supposedly supposed to be decent with kitty druids and rogues too, but I'm not sure. Frankly I feel I don't really need it as I don't have that much of a screen space issue or am I that bad at watching my OmniCC.

I'm not even sure I have a favorite add on though.

Favorite addon, that's a tough cherry to pop.
Addons I often consider 'necessary' aren't addons I just plain enjoy, I just prefer to play with them.
Recount, for example. It's ugly and takes up space, but my OCD won't let me NOT know 'how I'm doing.'
Mik's scrolling battle text has to be up there though.

Power Auras and Satrina's Buff Frames are extremely useful, and I can't live with out Grid.

I'd never be able to give it up now that I'm used to it; and would never of been able to run a guild without it.

OK, I see people toting the virtues of Power Auras, but when I installed it a few days ago, it did absolutely nothing. What on earth is it SUPPOSED to do? As I understood, it was the little spell icons lighting up and the HUD elements on proc, which the game puts in naturally now.

It does nothing by default. There's too many possibilities even for two people who have the same class, spec, race, and professions.

So there's a considerable aftermarket in Power Auras export strings (as the name implies, any user can export any aura as a text string for import by any other user, for their use/modification). Googling on something like "power aura strings balance druid" will likely turn up a blog post or two, and maybe a thread on mmo-champion or other forum.

There also seems to be a wiki at powerauras.wikispaces.com. Publicly maintained wikis being what they are, it's unlikely to be perfect, but it's probably a better starting place than the help available in-game from the mod (i.e. none).

I've spent a lot of time getting my rotational abilities set up with cooldowns and countdown timers, in a way that is meaningful to me. The downside is that you do get out pretty much only what you put in.

Yeah, as an example, here's what Power Auras can do for a frost mage: url.

Personally though, I like using it to track DoTs and my enchants and different procs just by using the default icons. Using the pretty graphics and then trying to remember what each one means is annoying.

I copied the Moonkin Calculated's set up, which you can see in his video here: video.

Meh, if that's your thing, awesome, but it doesn't tell me anything (on that frost mage example) that current addons or the stock UI doesn't show.
I dunno what I was expecting from Power Auras, but it's always so highly regarded I expected something.... special.

Two add-ons that I can't seem to function without:

Dominos (replaced Bartender, which I had used for quite a long while) and TellMeWhen, a highly customizable bar that let's me know everything I need to know for optimal dps, in a day and age where priority systems are the norm for most dps classes.

An old version of my UI with literally EVERYTHING turned on. I'm linking it as an example of what you can do with PowerAuras. It's what's showing the line of ability-when-ready icons along the bottom of the hud, under the big green line.

Being able to set up how you see cooldowns and procs is what's important about these types of addons (tellmewhen, powerauras, etc). Of course you can see them in the default UI. But with customization you can see them more easily/efficiently/effectively.

Ugh... I'm so glad I've been able to pare down my UI clutter since making that video... geez.

Oh, and my suggestion for the most important addon is: The Brain. Use it or lose it chuckleheads!

I agree. I still need to update my addons (just came back from a couple weeks off WoW). I really depend on it these days.

Here is my rogue's current UI with all the power auras up. The rogue uses Powa more than all my other toons.

Powa shows CPs, high energy warning, SnD, Recup, SD available, MoS up, my Rupture on target, if the target has a bleed debuff(it uses the icon of the debuff affecting the target), and FW.

FW, Bleed debuff, Rupture, SnD and Recup all have timers on them.

If I added more trackers, I could probably get rid of my main action bar and only have one for stuff I rarely use and click to activate.

Well it's useful for lots of things and it's really customizable. I really like it for tracking different buffs, like Bloodlust, trinket procs and such. Helps you to be able to time your timed buffs and set them all off at the same time to give you better dps boosts.

See, I like shiny things. A lot. So when an addon has the potential to be a shiny thing, I'm very very curious.
Supposing I run OmniCC (Shows cooldowns on the buttons) and the standard Blizzard 'power auras' thing, what can this Shiny offer me further?
#26 May 10 2011 at 11:37 PM Rating: Good
Cool downs don't track the duration of buffs though. What do you have that shows you in front of your face, when you get Bloodlust, or your Hurricane/Power Torrent buff? Showing the buffs in the corner just doesn't do it for me personally. I'll admit, I suffer from tunnel vision a bit, I need something closer to the middle of the screen to pop up so I can see it. It also let's you set up alerts for different boss debuffs and stuff too. It's really helpful for fights like Valiona/Theralion and Ascendant Council. Just download and play with it to see if you like it.
