How much to tip?Follow

#1 Apr 23 2011 at 6:30 PM Rating: Decent
How much do you tip people for crafting or enchanting things for you with your mats?

I've usually tipped at 10% of going AH rate. For example, boots going for a nickel, I'll tip 50g, a dime, 100g. If an enchant is 30g on the AH, I'll tip 5g, which is my minimum.

What's your tip table look like?

I usually use the same method. If I'm making something for a friend of a friend, they may provide more materials than are actually needed but an outright tip would be a social blunder. If I make something for a friend, there is no charge but he'll usually find a way to do me a favor later.

In game or out, tipping isn't generally part of the culture here and I haven't missed it.

I dont give tips. I pay for services rendered. Calling it a tip is a ridiculous fallacy. A tip is supposed to be an optional bonus as a reward for good service.

Vial of the Sands was going for 45k on my server. I offered a 3k crafting fee with my mats. I felt that was a fair sum. The Alchemist seemed happy with the deal as well.

I seem to have a much easier time making money than my guildies (I just don't spend on much, I guess) so I try to be generous when they make stuff for me. What's fun is when we get a bunch of people crafting for wach other, one guys throws in a 300g tip and makes the others figure "well Bob paid me well, I can tip the others well too." One time after a stint of that we compared notes and decided that everyone had come out pretty dang close to even in the process.

So far this expansion I've had one person craft someone for me that wasn't a guildie. It was the leather chest, and all he asked was for 2k for the cost of the orbs, so that's what I gave him. Found out later one of my guildies had the pattern too and wouldn't have charged me for the orbs, so whoops. >.> And yeah, tips are tips. Crafting fees are a completely other ball game.

I tip based on the source of the recipe. If it's something that the crafter gets from a trainer, such as a port or basic armor, I tip 5G. If item comes from a recipe that's a world drop, 10G for blues and 50G for epics. If it's a recipe they have to exchange orbs or other valuables for, I go 20G for blues and 100G for epics. Seems to be good and the crafters I've worked with have been happy with it.

Hey, welcome back Mr. Pithy! Good seeing you posting again. Haven't had much to rate up in a while.
