I can't see things like Flare or Consecrate. Is there anything I can do about that? It makes it a lot harder to PVP when I can't see what's on the floor.

I sympathize.

I run with many of the settings near or at the bottom on my computer as well. I can't say there's a lot you can do about it. However, one thing would be reducing other settings to bump one a little higher. For example when I'm running around in the world I can knock down other settings and increase my sight distance to help with herbing and mining and stuff. Then when I'm in raid, I can reduce the sight distance and raise some other setting a touch, so I can see stuff I'm standing in better. It doesn't always work as well as I hoped though, and sometimes I just have to settle with poor graphs to keep my FPS up. Somethings you'll just never really be able to see well with a lower-powered box.

Like those darn kobold fires from NR beasts. Smiley: mad

Hmm. I seem to recall hearing of an issue where, if you turn your graphics settings down using the slider, it turns "projected textures" off for you, and you need to go back in and turn it back on.

Yeah, be sure that's on. You may need to go into your WTF folder to activate it.

Along with what ever else you do, get the GTFO addon. It's a small addon that honks at you when you are standing in bad stuff.

Yessss...amazing addon, even if you're someone that doesn't typically stand in stuff...it helps a lot, especially on fights you haven't done before.

Doesn't DBM do something similar? Perhaps only for boss fights, not sure. I could've sworn I received a notice and a trumpet fanfare when I stood in the perfume thing for the Valentine's daily.

GTFO just seems to work with just about everything you should move out of, boss or not. It makes a great addition to DBM.

Hah, yup, I feel silly. When I turned it down to low to see if I could actually play, it turned everything low/off. Then I fiddled with it a little bit and realized I could keep everything except shadows on Fair. When I moved it back up to fair it never turned projected textures back on. I don't know how I didn't realize that. Thanks.

Still kind of sucks, my computer isn't even really all that old. Guess it's time for me to save for a gaming PC, been meaning to anyway :D

I have mouseover preview enabled, but the only word from your post that showed up was 'GTFO'. I'll admit, it hurt my feelings. Smiley: tongue

Will have to check out this GTFO addon.

I've also noticed that GTFO gives a warning a decent amount faster than DBM does, along with covering more abilities than DBM. It also gives different noises depending on the severity of the damage...little pings for small amounts of damage, and a louder buzzer for higher damage abilities. It's an awesome addon.

My favorite GTFO moment is in Pit of Saron, when it honks at you to move, BEFORE the green slime being chucked at you hits the ground.

GTFO. Not since the WrongButtonGoAway addon I first loaded for Karazan, has such a small and useful addition been made to my ********

People need a brighter 'idiot light' than DBM?
For those kids who don't know what I'm talking about, an idiot light is the light on 80's and older cars that told idiots when to shift their manual gearboxes.
In Pit, you could SEE the green balls moving (very very slowly) at you before they hit you. This is the case with most airbourne death traps. Another example is the crystals from the last trash mobs in Old Kingdom.
I dunno about having to use TWO addons warning you how to play.

Some people are addon minimalists, and I think that is great!! For me, the AH, professions, and fine tuning my 48 addons (or trying new ones) is as much fun as actually running dungeons. I sometimes simply look through curse or wowinterface to see what I can find that is new.

Playing with no addons for me is like never leveling past level 10. I'd be missing all my goodies.

I'm sure many people would hate my ui, despise using so many addons (count my son on that one), and could play at a higher level than me. That's ok. We're a casual guild. We are having fun, and for me the fellowship and fun is what it's about. So yes GTFO, keep warning me of things I can already see, and I'll still think it's cool.

I should note that I run 70-90MB of addons. I'm far from a minimalist, but I've always drawn the line at the addon playing the game for you.
Advanced warning systems, the addon that would tell ferals and rets (and maybe others) what buttons to press at what time, at what point are you paying $15/month to have a computer play the game for you?
I guess I'm old fashioned in that I like to actually PLAY games I play.

I actually do agree with you. I never have used an addon to tell me a spell rotation, and I'm not really fond of Blizzard highlighting spells on my action bar to tell me to use them. However, as a clothie who's focused more on healthbars than the floor, I'm ok with an addon telling me to move.

Sometimes is just okay to have an addon poiting out that your dot is about to finish, ya know? That's not playing for you. It's actually letting you play the game and pay attention in things that matter other than millions of cooldowns and countdowns.
For me, having an addon that shows for me that my dot is about to finish, or that a CD is avaiable means I can pay more attention to the fight and avoid bad stuff so I live longer and play more. But that's just me.

I run OmniCC and Debuff Filter. Those don't tell you how to play.
An addon that reminds you "Hey, the boss may just be casting Beam of Toasty Death" doesn't tell you how to play.
It's the addons that say "Hey, in 3 minutes move five steps to the left, then cast Beam of Toasty Disintegration" that I have an issue with.

I think DBM does much more of this than GTFO. DBM says "Boss Casting Big Spell of Doom, Interupt Now!!" or "Boss is Uberdoober, Dispell!!". GTFO just honks at you when you are standing in poo. It's up to you to decide what to do about it.
