So I've been pondering getting a Naga, I've watched videos and tutorials and such, and it looks pretty interesting, and I could imagine how such a device could improve my gameplay, but I'm still a little on the fence, partly due to the hefty price tag ($80-85 depending on shipping/who you get it from), and I've also been pondering a left-hand device as well (either a small detachable numpad that the left hand would use while the right hand is on the naga, or maybe something like the Nostromo), but again, I've just been brainstorming ideas.

I have two different computers, and one of my computers is not at a desk; I normally lay the keyboard in my lap, and the mouse is on a table that is slightly higher than it should be (which is why I still keyboard turn while using that computer -- it would tire my arm out if I had my hand on the mouse full-time). I don't do dungeons or PvP on that computer, though. I only do solo activities and light farming now-and-then.

If I get such a setup, I could imagine maybe laying the numpad on my left leg and maybe trying to get another table, or maybe a lap tray or something, but I can't seem to find any anywhere, was thinking of getting a family member to make a table that'd be the right height, that maybe the chair could slide under it, almost like a desk would be.

Any advice/suggestions on this?

I've also heard talk of other, similar gaming mice, but most people seem to say the the Naga is better than the others.

Edit: Also, my main concern, is that I will buy the naga and end up being more lost with it than I was without it. I can home-row type without looking at the keyboard, but I've never tried hovering my single thumb over a keypad and blindly press the right numbers, though I imagine having the icons on screen in order might help some.

How hard is it to get used to, and how easy is it to make mistakes, such as hitting the wrong button? I know they have "trainers" or little stickers you can put on the keys to help and all, but does it feel natural and such?

I generally say stay away from any type of gadgetry aimed specifically at "MMO" gaming.

I did get a Deathadder and I am liking it so far though.

I have NEVER taken gaming to the point of needing everything at my fingertips.
I do use a Lachesis and can say I will only use Razor mice simply because of the feel, response and UNPARALLELED customer service.

If you feel your gaming needs require 983 buttons on your mice,at least using a razor is a good call in my book :)

They RMA'ed my 1st copperhead which was a Gen 1 for a Diamondback which the kids broke a year later and RMA'ed it for a newer Gen Diamondback. 4 years from the date of purchase and out of the way customer service.

Yes, Razor is my brand and I would recommend it to anyone regardless of how many buttons they need :)

Hard.

Easy.

That's just my personal experience, of course. I've had it for a few months now and it's taken a lot of getting used to. And I'm not perfect with it even now. I've experimented with various configurations and I've learned, frankly, not to bind panic buttons to the Naga.

That said, I'm happy with it and I'd get it again. I don't click-heal with a separate mod, so I need enough keys for both offensive and defensive spells within easy reach, and my hand is not all that big. This does exactly what I wanted it to do, which is get everything but my spells off my keypad. I have things like Shift, Control, Escape, Jump, Zoom, Autorun, Vent, etc. bound to the Naga buttons and I move with the little thumbpad-thingie on my G13, so all my four left fingers have to do is cast, and this arrangement frees plenty of keys up for them to easily reach.

And ergonomically I like the Naga. I never get wrist or thumb pain. I think that's a matter of how it fits your particular hand and I'd never recommend anyone buy a mouse without testing it live first, just going into Best Buy or somesuch and actually seeing how it feels.

The thing about the Naga, though, is I've never seen it in any store I've ever been in, though I understand it has been out for awhile now.

It is hard to live test something that nobody I know has, lol.

Edit: Same goes for the Nostromo.

What I loved about the Nostromo is the idea of binding movement to its thumbpad, that would make for some really smooth and easy character movement, almost like having a freaking playstation controller, while leaving the buttons open for other things.

Maybe normal mouse + nostromo might be a better idea. hmmm.

I got mine at a good old fashioned brick-and-mortar Best Buy (gift card FTW). Not suggesting you necessarily buy it there, but if you have one in your area it might be worth swinging by and seeing if they have one you can look at.

I'll look and see, I don't even know where the nearest Best Buy even IS. lol.

My boyfriend has a death adder and I've been using the lachesis for about four months now, and we're both really happy with them. My only complaint is that I can't get 4 of the buttons to work on the lachesis, but I haven't bothered to contact customer service about it.

I LOVE my naga. I used to be a half clicker half keybinder but this has enabled me to go full keybinds, just because I can use shift and have access to 24 keys (other modifiers if I need it, but so far shift has been enough) in addition to the keys I have around my movement keys. I don't have large hands, so I don't have a huge reach across my keyboard, and this mouse makes my life SO much easier.

I have a naga. It's under my desk. No wait, maybe it's up on the shelf. I never felt the mouse itself was very comfortable in my hand. I love the fit of my old Logitech G5, and now my G500 in my hand. For me, 5 mouse buttons, plus the possible combinations with modifier keys (shift-click, ctrl-click, etc) give just as many spell possibilities as a naga.

It really comes down to personal preference, not need. Some love it, some don't.

I know these go on sale at woot.com here and there. If you are in no rush, you can always check that site every day until it comes back up.

I've had the same experience with Logitech over multiple items (not because they were bad products, but they wear out after a lot of gameplay + 3 year warranties) and they have never caused any issues when I RMA a product.

Are you playing on a mac by chance? I got a razer mouse a couple of years ago,but I couldn't get all the buttons to work, even with some freeware for non mac mice. If you're not on a mac, then it might just need drivers/driver updates.

I just got the razer naga (which has mac drivers) and I like it. I don't use it for my main spell rotations, but I do use it for other spells (buffs, procs, health pots, mount). I'm still not used to its shape, but I don't find the buttons that difficult (it comes with some button stick ons that act like a cheat sheet)

Nope, Windows 7 actually. We moved the Lachesis over to the new PC, I haven't checked to see if the additional four buttons (the two on the right side of the mouse and the two behind the scroll wheel) work on here yet. I also updated the drivers and still had the problem.

finally the truth comes out!

you know, for that kind of money you can find a good used desk in the classifieds. also, if it's only slightly higher, you'll build up the muscles in your shoulder and stuff to cope. isn't that arm already stronger than the other one?

I've already admitted I had a history of keyboard turning in the past, but I -have- started training myself to mouse-turn on my bedroom computer (which is on a huge desk with a nice comfy office chair, etc). The problem with mouse-turning, though, is that I simply cannot get used to reaching my fingers up to the number keys while using WASD or similar simultaneously... it is just not working for me. Otherwise, I can navigate the character just fine, but I have no way (or shall I say, very clumsily) of accessing my hotkey buttons. Hence, the temptation to try the Naga or a Nostromo.

The gaming room computer, though is as I described above, and oddly, no... my left arm is actually stronger than my right (I'm right handed).

The reason why, is because of my job IRL. It is such that I frequently have to carry heavy objects in my left hand, so that my right hand is free to manipulate said objects. I discovered this fact (painfully I might add) when I had a pinched nerve in my left shoulder (still do, it bothers me now and then) and I tried switching hands.

I'm decently ambidextrous; more so than most people I know. My left hand did OK in doing the tasks my right would normally do, BUT, my right arm was tiring fast when I put that much weight on it, and it became clear to me that my left arm is at least 20% stronger than my right.

As to the table... it is quite a bit higher, at least 5-6 inches higher than a desk would be, due to the fact the only small table I could find, is a sort of small folding card table (which is also flimsy). I tried raising the office chair to the maximum height, but the table is still too high.

Luckily, I never use the gaming room computer for anything but solo questing and farming, if I do dungeons, I do it in my room (so I can use headphones, and devote my full attention to what I'm doing, instead of family members or either of my 2 cats distracting me as they are not permitted in my room).

As to getting a desk for the gaming room computer; that's not an option. The gaming room computer is in a small room (8x8 foot room) and it already has one computer desk, PLUS a 37'' widescreen TV. There's 2 computers in that room, and the one I use, is hooked up to the TV (which is why I lay the keyboard on my lap; I can't put a huge desk in front of the TV). I wanted some sort of small table that the office chair could wheel under like a desk, but... I haven't seen anything like that in stores yet. Maybe tonight I'll snap a pic of what I mean or something.

I had a mouse that the click worked, but the sensor in it would not allow me to move the curser around. I called customer support, they helped me get it working, win. That was my old Mamba, and I've since bought my naga and loved it.

I'm currently using a Deathadder and a Tarantula.
They have served me well over the past 4 years.
Only complaint I've ever had about either of them is that the button remover that came with the Tarantula for the 10 programmable keys didn't actually fit around the keys so I had to pop them out with a knife.
Apart from that, Razer FTW.

I like mine personally. For healing it's really handy and makes my job alot easier. My Druid and Priest do really well with it in conjunction with healbot. My dps toons do well with it. Perticularly my Dk. Waaaay better than being a clicker.

I do like the fact that you can really clean up your screen and put your buttons where you want them with the user interface addon.

Only thing is I do hit the 1 button with my thumb when I'm moving sometimes when I don't mean to so, I've placed a button there that won't ***** me up just in case I do hit it.

Obviously it comes down to personal choice and the cash is something to consider I suppose but, I'm really happy with mine and am glad I got it. My other mouse was shot and I was gonna end up spending some grip loot anyways so I just went for it. Its comfy and I like the action.

I bought one last night and I love it. I was skeptical about all the buttons, but they work very nicely. It is actually very comfortable in my hand. I played for about 6 hours with it last night and never felt any discomfort.

Just my opinion, hope it helps.

It took me about 2 days to get used to using my thumb for the buttons. I had a previous microsoft mouse a number of years ago that had me use my thumb for a forward/back button, so it wasn't THAT different, I just had more buttons. It really has changed the way I play, for the better. I love it.

My wife just surprised me the other day with a steel series cataclysm gaming mouse. I was going to tell her to take it back, but then figured what the hey, after 5 years of clicking my actions, this old dog could learn a few new tricks.

It is taking some getting used to, as it's considerable larger than my standard issued microsoft mouse I have been using. I'll probably never use all the buttons (it has 14), as I'm the kind of person who seems to always buy something with every bell and whistle, and then never use it. But it does look cool, it glows!
