Are we really that impatient?Follow

First a little story. A little while ago I waited 30-40 minutes for a random (dps) and finally got a group. Smooth run, but then on the pull before the last boss I get disconnected. 2-3 minutes later I get back in only to find that I've been kicked from the group.

WTF people? Are you so incredibly pressed for time that you can't wait a few minutes for someone to come back? I don't expect you to wait forever, but 5 minutes or so isn't unreasonable (unless the person sucked anyway or something, which I hope I don't.) I see this happen all the time to other people as well. I personally don't vote to kick people for d/c's but it usually passes anyway so I guess most everyone else does.


This only seems to happen to DPS though. People will ALWAYS wait a few minutes for tanks and healers.

That's not entirely true. I was in a random group just a couple days ago where the tank dc'd and we kicked him within 2 or 3 minutes. It does suck I know, and I am guilty of this myself. It's just a byproduct of our instant gratification culture.

People have been trained to associate someone DCing with them intentionally leaving the group, as for them waiting for the tank/healer if that person DCs, simple supply and demand - DPS are a dime a dozen, tanks and healers are rare.

'First a little story'?? I don't have time for little stories! First, your point - then maybe little stories for people who have nothing better to do than read that timesink wall of text of yours. 'Impatient' is just a word ditherers use for decisive people.

On a slightly different but related note; what's it with people ZERGING through every pre-60 dungeon? I know they're fairly easy right now, and I know you want to get your 12-heirloom alt to 85, but nine out of ten dungeons I go into involve two DPS chain-pulling (and living through it, ret pallies can tank now), a tank running to keep up with the two DPS, me healing and my DPSing GF trying to work out wtf is going on. I'm trying to show her the ropes of instancing, and every now and then we get a good group where the tank pulls, trash is cleared in an orderly fashion and we end up only clearing the instance 5 minutes slower than usual. When this happens, it's great, and we both enjoy actually 'going' through an instance, but it's so rare that it's nearly turned both of us off instancing pre-outlands.

In regards to the previous topic; PUGs while leveling have been odd for me. What tends to happen now that we've reached some of the harder easy-dungeons (scholomance, stratholme) is that somebody pulls an entire room, we clear half of it before we wipe and then 2-3 players immediately leave. We replace them and then clear the rest of the place without problems. In one case we even had a tank saying "brb, toilet" followed by him going AFK for 35 minutes before we finally kicked him. By that time we were already 4-manning the last bit of the instance and we ended up never getting nor needing a tank.

Funnily enough, once the entire instance had been cleared and everyone but me and the GF had left, we suddenly got a replacement tank and 2 DPS. I told them the instance was cleared, but them being the morons they were just walked all the way to the end anyway. One of them ninja'd two greenies we hadn't looted yet by randomly needing both of them before we left. Yay LFG.

It's pre 70 Moz, BC instances are easier than old world instances, hell I could probably have solo'd most BC instances on my protadin.

As for your issue with ninjapulling dps, roll a tank and pull faster.

My 74 Disco Priest is having a blast getting people killed in Nexus and Old Kingdom.

I've seen Rogues, Hunters and even Mages run ahead and pull stuff while I was drinking, or the tank had gone AFK. Usually while the tank is AFK as I don't drink in dungeons (well, I do, but not in-game... get it?).

Anyway, at one point, the tank and I was flirting - I'm pretty sure he thought I was a girl - and he was asking me about advice for his talent build, when I see the Mage stand up from eating/drinking, spam out 'gogogogo' and run off to pull a random group of 6+ mobs. Total Jenkins style.

I was all /popcorn and /cheer as he got stomped to a bloody pulp.

Problem is people ninja drop from dungeons all the time for various reasons. When people ninja drop you can't tell if they are truely DCed or if they left. Would think if it was running smooth and you was almsot done they would have gave ya a couple of minutes but I guess when its 4 people who don't even know ya they would just as soon replace ya and move on.

If they are dc'ed it shows them as in the group but not online. If they drop group they are not in the group anymore and therefor don't show up in the group.

As for the OP like it's been said thats just they way people are. Waiting 5 mins seems like an eternity for some people. I have seen people drop group completely after 1 min of the tank dc'ing. It donsn't make much sense to me, why spend 40 mins in queue again instead of waiting a few?

This works in WotLK reg and on, but in old world to BC content, i.e., the majority of the levels, there stand a pretty good chance that the mob will die before the idiot DPS does.

I've tried to kill the dps off this way multiple times, only to be disappointed when they didn't die. Like a cockroach.

Well yes, I *could* do that, but they'd keep themselves up all the way up to at least bosses. My problem isn't that I don't want baddies as much as it is that I just want to do a clear-cut 5-man. My problem as a whole has actually been that I'm leveling too fast, and that's with nothing more than the guild 10% bonus. I want to experience the content, check out all the new **** and show my girlfriend how a proper co-ordinated group plays. Instead I'm just rushing to 85 without even trying. I could opt out of any 5-man that looks like a 20-minute zergfest, but it's against my whole being to do so - leveling or even just 'playing' in WoW has always been about optimizing and getting any bonus you could, but right now I honestly, fairly, truly, wouldn't matter if Blizz lowered 1-80 XP gain by ~20%.

I haven't done BC instances lately, but is it that bad? I mean - ANYTHING pre-stratholme is being ZERGED right now. And I don't just mean 'stuff dying really fast', I mean 2-3 people pulling as if they're pulling quest mobs and never dropping below 80% even without me healing. Stratholme and Scholomance were a bit better, mainly due to the first room in Scholo where you can't pull the entire room without wiping (there's one guy per pack who does a knockback that seriously ***** up the healer).

I can't believe it'd go downhill again, I had definitely set my hopes on some of the BC instances being just as zergable again as stockades and WC.

Mobs hit for less and have less health than 50-60 mobs up until you get to level 65 or so. (Underbog/mana tombs etc)
You won't see a group doing anything other than zerging until you enter Wrath instances where in all fairness, you can still zerg it's just got to be the tank pulling and stuff takes a little longer to die.



Edit: as for rolling a tank and pulling faster, it keeps the group organized as you don't get 3 dps pulling everything but a tank pulling enough to keep the dps satisfied and skipping unnecessary mobs.
