The note hasn't been added yet, but we haven't forgotten. Here's what you're likely to see in the patch notes:

* Meta gems with the Chaotic and Relentless prefixes now have a requirement of 3 red gems.

* Added new meta gems: Agile Shadowspirit Diamond (Agility/3% critical damage), Reverberating Shadowspirit Diamond (Strength/3% critical damage), and Burning Shadowspirit Diamond (Intellect/3% critical damage). These new recipes are unbound and can drop from any Cataclysm creature. The new meta gems have a requirement of 3 red gems equipped.

So yeah. New Metas incoming with 4.0.6, which I expect to have a very short testing phase, being mostly balance changes and the like.

Edit: Oh, hey. 2000th post. Waddya know.

So the Chaotic one will now be worthless, people wont use the Wrath Relentless one any longer and I will have to farm drops as the new ones are very sexy looking.

As long as this isn't "Exactly" three red gems equipped, we're talking awesomeness.

I did hate having to keep my red gems down below my blue ones. Happy days are here again. :D

I was saving a Chaotic for this change, now I will just use the Reverberating instead, better sell the Chaotic before it becomes useless.

It would certainly be more powerful with the requirement being "minimum of three", but "exactly 3" would certainly make the gemming metagame much more interesting - you'd have to choose between the best metagem + socket bonuses vs. a decent metagem + all primary stat gems. And the balance might change as you get new gear, forcing you to balance costs vs. benefits of upgrading, including the risk of having to change back...

Anything that would liven gemming up is good, in my mind - it's oversimplified for so many classes with Intellect being red and gemming for primary stats so overpowered.

Yes and no, didn't blizzard simplify the stats to get rid of that type of theorycrafting? I'm going to assume (yeah I know what it stands for) that it is minimum of 3 red.

It seems to me they're walking a fine line.

On one hand I'm sympathetic to the argument that having a complicated spreadsheet just to gem is making the game unfriendly to casuals. On the other hand they have definitely pushed some of these decisions fairly far into the 'no-brainer' category. When you're left with a situation where you'll gem intellect unless you have a large intellect socket bonus, it kind of makes you wonder why have gems at all? The only thing that is coming to me at the moment would be having slots for something like a resilience gem in a PvP set.

Then again, since you can't change any primary stat, reforging seems to be where the interesting decisions are being made these days. You could argue the easy way to 'fix' gemming at this point would be to remove primary stat gems; but then that'd make it a little redundant.

TL:DR = Gemming is starting to feel like the unwanted older step-brother of reforging at the moment.
