i am officially protesting this change-over to wowhead - i've been using allakhazam for years for about 95% of the information i needed for my gaming and i do not at all care for the setup on wowhead which never seems to really have the pertinent info handy. my official opinion on wowhead in general = it sucks. i am very disappointed by this change over and i guess alla will not be getting any more paid subscriptions out of me either.

If you can't find pertinent info on Wowhead, you're doing it wrong.

The problem was that the database here was very out of date. The information wasn't good anymore. Seeing as wowhead and allakhazam are the same company it didn't make sense to maintain two database systems, which honestly involves a ton of work.

It is a bit more awkward now if you use this site as a base and there is work going on to make it smoother, but it's a progression and we figured it was better to just link to wowhead for now then to have a very out of date database with incorrect information.

Why do you think wowhead sucks?

Alla is for forums - Wowhead is for info - Kitty is for fight.

I almost agree with the OP.

I always loved alla for the ease of finding info but now i usually google first and its rare that wowhead really answers my questions .

I understand that it will take time to get it right but as it is at the moment both alla and wowhead are pretty useless to me , i am not a fan of some other sites but they at least do answer my questions with a simple search.

To be honest, I hadn't noticed the change. I use Allakhazam exclusively for its forums these days and I've been using Wowhead for game info for a couple of years. The Wiki here never really took off, despite the admin's best efforts, so Wowhead has become the definitive source.

What I hate, personally, is that wowpedia/wowwiki seems to be far, far, far out of date, especially for lore stuff.

The last 5 times in a row I tried to look something up on wowpedia, it was out-of-date, or the info I was looking for didn't exist.

WoWhead is good and all, but it doesn't cover the LORE information like wowwiki did, pre-4.0.

Also, Wowhead should have performed a database purge when 4.0 hit, because there's still outdated information on it (for example, it still says scarlet mobs in EPL drop Runecloth which is 100% false).

Really? Because honestly I found it to be the other way around. I could almost never find any useful information on Alla's db whereas wowhead its usually a quick search. I'm glad to see it unified. Wowhead focuses on that and thus they are better at it. Whereas, I'd never use wowhead for its forums.

Not to derail this thread of awesome, but holy hangover, Batman.

On topic, Wowhead's database has been better than Allakhazam's since ever or so. The only thing I miss is the spells/abilities list we had. It wasn't updated either, but it was faster to navigate than Wowhead's (based on where the link here now takes you).

Anyway, time to go look for whatever drunken posts I made last night. I'm certain I made some.

Yeah, I'm not sure sure what you are talking about. The database here has always been a pita to look through, tons of false entries (from private servers/etc) and the filtering is FAR superior on wowhead. Thank god they got rid of the alla one.

If you do have any specific questions or complaints, you should let the wowhead team know as well, because otherwise they can't improve.

On our side, although the wiki maybe hasn't taken off, it's still there, and if you have information or ideas on something that should be in it let us know as well. It's a bit strange right now as it was integrated into the db, but we're working on getting out the bugs.

This.

Honestly I love this sight, but it has been an inferior database for ... ever.

This streamlining is best for everyone. Better to have lots of resources focused on completing a task really well once than do a half-assed job twice.

I have a question... I am not sure if it would work, so I'll just ask and find out...

Could it be possible to have the search engine on this site redirect us to Wowhead's page for the information we used Search for? Or even have the Database menu up top link over to Wowhead.

It isn't a big thing, but I still have a habit of coming here first to look up stuff, and when it brings up nothing, or a guide, or a wiki article I cry a little inside (not really). It takes a lot of effort for me to remember changes to things that use to be a certain way for years and then it just changes.

Something that has been bothering me since I saw this thread....how is this official? I really hate how people just slap that on things. Is there an organization staging a protest and this is THEIR official thread on it? Is this a thread supplied by ZAM? Learn what terminology means. I know, bit offtopic, but it really irks me sometimes. Just one of those things, I suppose.

if you use firefox, wowhead has a search engine plugin. right next to my address bar i have a little search window with a wowhead logo.

Like its already been said, if you can't find what your looking for on wowhead your doing it wrong. I used the Zam databases for a while, but after starting to use wowhead I personally found the wowhead databases easier to use. It makes more sense for them to focus on one site for a database than trying to manage different sites that should contain the same info anyway.

I can find the majority of what I want on WoWhead without any problems...in fact I have been using it exclusively for some time before the 'forced' changeover.

I've preferred the wowhead database for quite some time, especially the filtering which got a lot better sometime during Wrath and provided at least one basic query term (item level, IIRC) which Alla didn't support.

My only quibble is that since the consolidation, or since Cataclysm, since recently at least, the servers have been responding to external rollovers about 1 time in 4, and the query interface has been down as often as it has been up. Before, at least for basic checks, there was another alternative...
