Coming back to WoW, leveling times?Follow

#1 Dec 22 2010 at 10:01 AM Rating: Decent
Hi, last time I left WoW I was a level 40 Protection Paladin. I was wondering how long it will take me to get to level 60 and then to level 85. Also, what's the best/quickest way to achieve this.

(If it matters, I'm not much of a PVPer and don't enjoy anymore than the odd match or two every so often). Gears also a concern, so I'd like to know wether methods such as Questing can give me with ample gear to continue on questing.

Thanks,

Tom

Using quest reward items will not make you under-geared to do further quests. The levelling process is a lot quicker these days also.

If you just follow quest chains, 40-60 will take less than an hour per level.

Daily random BGs (at 45+) give about half a level worth of xp for a single win... Worth throwing in one per day. Instances also give really good XP the first time you run them as the quests are not given out right at the beginning of the instance.

Shouldn't take too long, the quest system is much smoother nowadays

My thoughts:

-Get into a guild that is lv 6 (or 7, i think it is 6). This means you will get an EXP+ Bonus on kills.
-If you are starting fresh, pick up 1 Gathering professions (however 2 is always great). Use these to make money (via selling goods on the AH).
-Either pick a Healing or a Tanking class, and then be a Healer or a Tank. Upon hitting lv15 you can start using the Random Dungeon tool. This puts you into a dungeon make up of people across many realms. DPS are everywhere, being a "needed" role means later on you can be more helpful to your guild/get into a better one. But the best of being tank/healer is the Wait time for said dungeons..it is almost instant.

Some say Questing for levels is faster then running dungeons. However, I did 1-80 on a Prot Warrior with 7 /played days. He had under 250 quests done.
However I did have Account Bound gear to help me, but you an 100% gear up in dungeons.

The only down side is you are going to run the same places many many many times. By the time you really start to hate that dungeon, you move onto the new few.

Also note that some of the 40+ dungeons get to be tougher. Maraudon has been a pain for most groups I've been with so far because people refuse to use CC.

Did Cata change how tanking is 1-80? I hit 80 a few months before cata and have not Tanked again.
Maybe I was just **** about being a good tank, but I don't recall ever really having a hard time with holding hate (or aggro, w/e peeps call it in WoW) in Maraudon or higher dungeons. When I hit the LK Dungeons I noticed I had crap Health until I managed to quest/obtain a few upgrades, and then everything was all smooth again.

I ask about pre-80 tanking because I don't know if it has changed. I've ran some stuff while working on my Troll Druid and it seemed liked Tanks could just plow through and gather up a good group of mobs, and then everyone just AEed. Not the best way to learn to tank if at later you can't do that.

It may not be the tanking, it may be the healing. Without CC, the healer also has to work harder, especially if the tank isn't superbly geared.
