Is this rig good for WoW?Follow

#1 Dec 22 2010 at 7:05 AM Rating: Decent
Hi, I was just wondering if the rig I'm getting will be able to handle WoW comfortably at 60fps at High or at Ultra. And also will me unlocking the four cores in the CPU make a significant difference? And will it be good for using FRAPS to record whilst playing.

AMD Phenom 560 X2 3.3Ghz @ X4 3.8Ghz
4GB HyperX ddr3 1600mhz RAM
XFX HD 5770 or XFX HD 6850

Thanks,

Tom

the system should be fine, I don't know about playing at Ultra (depending on what you plan on doing) but for 10mans or less it should be okay.

My computer is only a dual core 2.8ghz/6gb 1300mhz ddr3/ati 5750 and I run Ultra at around 65fps when in raids (maybe 50 if 25m graphic intensive fight) So that computer should be just fine. And when you consider the fact that your computer monitor (if 60hz like 99% of them) has roughly a 30fps refresh, you still have room to grow.

I would go with the XFX 5770 at a minimum for best settings. I have used the XFX 5850 and it works great also. If you are referring to "unlocking" as in allowing for easier overclocking, then yes, overclocking the CPU will help your performance. However, it will also make your rig potentially run hotter and unless you know what you are doing, it could be very unstable.

If you are talking about "unlocking" as in utilizing the 4 cores, to my knowledge, WoW before Cataclysm did not make use of multiple core CPU's, but that could have changed with Cata.

WoW takes advantage of dual core systems, but I don't know if it is quad-threaded yet to support 4+ cores.

60hz = 60FPS.
