You have Gatherer? Disable the heads-up display for that in your addons.
...I think.

Uh, that's nUI, a featured project over at WoW Interface. The designer of it spends a lot of time working on it. It's hardly bloated, the whole point of it is to have all your needed information on the bottom part of your screen, leaving the rest of it clear. It's got a lot of neat features and it's packaged together in one add on. Just because you don't like it, that doesn't mean it's ******. :-p

I agree with Theo.
It is terribly bloated, removes part of the viewing screen, has too much trivial information visible, and has an MS paint edit over it.
If the goal of this UI is to make all the information available at the bottom, it fails on that level as well, there's a TON of stuff at the top of the screen with no business up there.

Bloat doesn't always mean memory used.

It's incredibly ugly and I can 100% guarantee you that I can make a better UI with all of that information that would take up far, FAR less screen real estate.

I knew what you meant by bloated.

If you think you can do better, do it. I'd like to see it. :-) If I could use nUI on my machine, I absolutely would. My laptop can't handle it though, it uses an avg. of 15-20 MB of memory, which absolutely kills my fps. My only complaint with nUI is that there's no ability to make the font larger atm without knowing code. The size of the text is way too small for my tastes.

Remove the hideous black bars that cover 1/5 of the screen, align the important info (hp, buffs and runes) up and to the centre, remove the redundent zoomed mini map and put proper action bars in its place. It is now a decent UI!

Bag space, hearth and mounts etc could be aligned round a (more attractive) map in the lower right, the chat box is fine in the lower left. A UI pretty much relies on the player being comfortable to keybind abilities to remain uncluttered as it lets you hide a lot more stuff.

I tried nUI for a while and I am not a big fan of it. If I get an addon that allows me to customize I like to clear up room. Not a big fan of how everything on the bottom third of the screen is black. I imagine if it was at least partially see through I would enjoy it more.

Anywho... you got two options I would try Nightfall. First, try to clean your screen the best you can. If that doesn't work, just buy a new monitor. :P

This will show pretty much everything that nUI shows, and I can even add in Recount and Omen to show even more info:

Edit: obviously the arena frames only show in arenas.

That's clean.
I prefer a "U" shaped UI, where the info falls down the sides of the screen into a pool of info at the bottom (no background, that stuff bugs me), but most people wouldn't. It keeps the entire centre of the screen available for use, but it has all of the info still, even action bars.
I don't really buy into the new 'no action bar' trend, as I still use them to see C/Ds.
It's VERY easy to create a UI more efficient than the one in the OP while still being VERY useful.

I concur with previous posters. But I also believe that's what great about the UI community, there is something for everyone.

And now we should just post UI's because there hasn't been a good UI thread in a while.

Combat
Clean

This is RealUI and has to be one of my favorites over the past year.

Almost everything is capable of being hidden and allowing a cleaner shot of the game. I've also added some addons like PowerAuras and OPie.

Let's see some others.

I have always used the default UI in an attempt to avoid changing and/or patching it every patch day or expansion.

But from what I see here, it wasn't the major chore I thought it was.

What I need is something usable by all classes. I am just trying to reduce the size of the UI buttons by 60% or so.
Is there a simple one for non raiders?

its Gatherer heads up display. it tracks where you've been on a 2d map that has the orange trail and the location of the nearest herb/mining nods in accordance to your distance from it. Its very useful for farming but not needed otherwise.

I agree with the minimalistic approach.

A clean UI that matches itself is a very nice thing to have.

I've used the stock UI since vanilla... I have the ratio set so the bars are very very small. I have a complex set of mouse and keyboard binds that I use on all my toons. I know it VERY well by now. Thank Bliz soooo much for saving key binds server side. Only addon I use that takes much real estate is Healbot. And I have that scaled down so it doesn't take much space. Use it on all my toons. Even the ones that don't have any heal spells. Turn the tips off after I get used to it on said toon to take up even less space.

My wife got Dominos recently. I do admit I was a little curious. Haven't decided if I will try it. I wouldn't mind getting rid of the book ends on the sides of the stock UI or those console links in the center. Character, spellbook, game menu, etc. Know all the key binds so never click on them. Just been leery of "UI kits" though. Don't want some ridiculous crap taking over everything...

That's not bad for just the UI part Theo. It's definitely less crowded than nUI's layout, but does that layout have all of the features of nUI?
http://www.nuiaddon.com/about.htmlThis lists a good amount of the features that it has, but doesn't list all of them. For example, whenever you enter in range of a rare spawn, you get an alert in the chat box, with the name of the mob. And again, this is all in one add on. You don't have to worry about keeping track of 20+ different add ons like most UI packages. That's pretty convenient.

The RealUI does look very nice, I might give it a try sometime (once I get a better pc), but I'll admit that the large amount of add ons required to get that look is definitely a downside.

Theo is right, the UI is horrible.

I cut out the ones I have in my ui to avoid too much wall of text.

* Greatly reduced screen clutter Blatantly wrong and mine is less cluttered
* Integrated unit casting bars w/ latency Mine has castbars with latency, not in unitframes because that makes the unitframes bloated and is harder to see clearly.
* Detailed HUD including player casts, harmful auras, cooldowns and more Just pay attention to the game, aside from that I find HUD's to be a horror
* Integrated in-HUD threat meter (see notes) Omen GO!
* Integrated in-HUD health race bar (see notes) Do you even want that?
* Advanced player casting bar with latency and GCD See first castbar thing
* Click-casting compatible unit, party and raid frames Clique if you need it
* Click-to-feed hunter pet happiness indicator on unit frames Why? You can drag food to the pet for the once in a year you actually feed your pet
* Integrated battlefield highlighting of raid group numbers, hits and heals I'm not sure what this does, but it seems mostly like a lot of useless data
* Integrated player talent build/spec browsing in unit frames Don't have this
* Integrated cooldown counters, OOM and OOR indicators ForteXorcist
* Integrated range to target calculation Need to get one of these addons again, not terribly hard to accomodate though
* Integrated (de)buff displays for all units Got debuffs for self and target, can enable focus too but I don't like that
* Integrated (de)buff countdowns err, is this a feature?
* Integrated user interface reload "/nui rl" /reload ui is too long?
* Automatic faction watching press U and scroll?
* Automatic management of MiniMap buttons Don't show minimap buttons aside from tracking on mouseover and mail, done.
* Expanded battlefield map BG map I guess? shift+M gives you a small map that fits where omen usually goes
* Adaptive buff/debuff display based on target reaction This could be nice but I don't have that

So basically, my UI either has the feature, I think the feature is rubbish and bloat or the feature makes no sense in almost all cases.

For reference, my UI (work in progress. Still needs new borders, possibly a new font and some small finishing stuff)

Get Dominos, pitbull and Quartz and enable them only on an alt you never/very rarely play (or make a new level 1 for it :P). Then fiddle with building an UI that you enjoy without affecting any other char.
Once you're done you just copy that alt's settings on other characters and you're done.

Yes, it has every single one of those functions and more (nUI has no arena or battleground addons).

Every UI in this thread other than mine and Aethien's are terrible.

Here is what my healer is using as of now.

Have to get Tidy Plates going for her, the default ones are hideous and I need them in TB when there is multiple raid groups. Wasn't planning on that before I joined though.
