So I was talking to Xsarus , and I was joking with him about wishing he was Horde so we could raid or instance together. He said I could always faction change. This is nothing I would ever do I just don't like alliance.

Now don't get me wrong I don't dislike Alliance players,I have many friends on Real ID that play alliance, I dislike the alliance itself. From the way the races look to the bits of story I know about them.

This got me to wondering how other people viewed their allegiance. I mean I have some alliance toons but they would never be my 'mains' and mainly they were ground out of boredom or because a friend wanted me to play on their server.

So I ask, why do you play your faction? Because your friends were there? Would you switch? How do you see the other side.

Like i mentioned previously, I just couldn't bring myself to have a main on alliance, because of those reason. Also because Arcane torrent is such a part of my rotation on my rogue, it would feel awkward not having it there.

Any Friend i have that play Alliance I jib them about it. Little things like when they initially say they play that side stuff like "You're doing it wrong" or "Well it's because your Alliance".

Just to reiterate I don't hate or dislike Alliance players, just the faction as a whole.

So why?

For the Horde! :P

I play Horde because I played the original Warcraft games, and they had the goblins.

Goblins ******* rock.

I'm on alliance because my friend made me transfer my Tauren warrior. The only alliance race I like is human, I will take all my characters back to Horde one day simply because I think the Horde races are so much cooler.

I've leveled both Alliance and Horde characters. At one point my lock and DK were Horde and my Hunter and Druid were alliance, and they both got about the same amount of playtime. In the end though people on the Alliance side tended to be on at the same time as me, and this wasn't as true on the horde side, so I became more alliance heavy. Then I transferred my lock to alliance and my brother moved his horde guild to the Zangermarsh server. So I've been more Alli heavy since then.

Well that and shadowmeld is a tree's best friend. Smiley: wink

Alliance (primarily, I do have a Horde 80) because:

1. My friends started on them.
2. I can relate to the stories more (maybe I'm speciesist?)
3. The undead are just too evil for me to like.
4. The music the first time I walked through the Valley of Heroes pretty much sealed the deal for me.

I'm Horde because my friend was Horde when he got me into WoW so I naturally went Horde. I don't really know much of the lore or anything behind Horde or Alliance, but I also hate Alliance for the simply fact people kill me. Smiley: bah

I have played characters to 80 on both Alliance and Horde side and now have one Horde 85. Honestly, it doesn't really matter to me one way or the other which faction I play. I enjoy both. More, I enjoy the game and I'm not really concerned much about the faction issue. I guess I'm just not that into lore enough to care, but even if I was, I could probably find things to like/dislike about both factions.

Funny thing is, having played on both sides, I've heard the same comments about both factions. People complain about the opposite faction, they complain about their own faction (particularly in PvP settings).

Having seen both sides and heard the comments, I just kind of laugh. The people that play Alliance and Horde are the same types of people. That includes solid raiders, casuals, nice people, stupid kids...you name it. Horde, Alliance...two sides of the same coin.

I'm alliance because when I started the friends that got me to start were alliance. I would have no problem playing horde if I had a reason to though. I don't like all the races, but both sides have enough races that I like that any class would be possible. I do think a NE druid is cooler then a Tauren druid. I like trolls, orcs and goblins though, and the only race I actually don't want to play is blood elf.

FOR THE HORDE!

Anyways, I started out as alliance cause.. euh, well, I wanted a ranger type of character and female nightelf got closest to that.
Not long after Ulduar was released I figured out that I was on a dead end server and rerolled as horde because horde are just cooler and horde players are much more skilled.

I play Horde. I started off with characters on both sides but I made my first in-game friends on Horde and found that faction to be more friendly and helpful in general so my Alliance characters lagged farther and farther behind. I did knuckle down and get one of my Alliance characters to 80 before the expansion to see more of the quests but she's pretty low priority right now.

Plus - Trolls are on Horde and I just love playing Trolls. ^.^

Horde, no huge reason I guess, I liked the horde races/looks better and I have yet to see a better cast animation than undead (male or female).

My friend that started playing first picked both Ally and a PvP server.

We still blame him.

I started Alliance because I wanted to play a Paladin.

This was back in Vanilla, before we had Blood Elves.

So, I started a human paladin, and that was that.

Later on, during Wrath, I got curious about the Horde side, and so I also started characters on another server, and now I got 10x Alliance on one server and 10x Horde on another.

I originally chose alliance because a friend who was already playing was alliance. I probably would have chosen alliance anyway though because in the end it's all about aesthetics and alliance races are generally prettier.

Right now I'm Horde due to playing with a group of people that are Horde players, but for the most part I've always been Alliance at heart. I started as Alliance due to my like of the Night Elves in Warcraft 3, which carried over to making my first toon a NE. From there, I just like the city designs more. Goblins have sort of made me appreciate playing Horde more. Everything they do is makes me laugh.

I play Horde. I started out Alliance. I switched because my husband did, so I started a couple of characters to check out their zones and starting areas. I stayed because I came to like a lot of the lore and stories, which surprised me because at first I assumed they'd be the bad guys and I cannot play anyone I perceive as a bad guy. (Hats off to Blizz for putting enough evil and good on both sides to give people a chance to identify with either, whatever their preference.)

I would never switch again. There are aspects of the Alliance that I like. Some of their stories are cool, and I tend to like the design of their towns, cities, etc. a lot better. I still kind of miss Stormwind. But I've come to identify with my blood elf too much to change. And although I'd like to think I'm above such psychological simplicity, I really do think doing PVP kind of polarized me.

Like you OP, I have no feeling that the players on one side or the other are better or worse. My faction choices have really just been about the WoW universe and where I feel comfortable in my little imaginary world. Now though I play with a guild I really love, so even if I wasn't attached to the Horde, I'd stay Horde because that's where they are.

Also, my blood elf is hawt.

I've always liked to play the "ugly" races because they usually look cooler in gear.
I mean my Orc, Troll and Undead toons all look pretty bad *** in the gear they have for their class(es).
Thus why my favorite toons are horde side.

I do however like (and I seem to be in the small % that do) the Dwarf race. In books/stories/art they are always the drunken/BS/JC/Old race.
Also the Worgens due to them being werewolves. I've always like the idea of Werewolves.

I started off Alliance because my bf at the time had a major hard on for paladins. He still does. Every game I have ever played with the man, he's had his main be a paladin. Anyways, after we broke up and I went back to the game, BC had been released and I was curious about Blood Elves, so I tried them out. I rolled a Blood Elf mage, and I never looked back.

Part of what kept me on Horde, was that in my experience, Horde players don't tell Nuck Chorris jokes. They also seem to be much friendlier and more likely to help each other out. I realize this isn't everyone's experience, but this was my experience. Plus, the only races the Alliance have that appeal to me are the Night Elves, Dwarves and now the Worgen. Really the only race of the Horde I don't like are Trolls. This is large in part because I can't play male characters. Male trolls are freaking awesome, female trolls are blech.

Also, I really <3 Sylvanas. I can't explain it, I just think she's ******* awesome. Even now when she's doing some extremely questionable things, I still love her.

I play Horde ... I'm L49 and I have won 27 out of 32 BGs I've been in ... on the other hand, I have to wait in Q to PvP.

Winning BGs > Insta-Q ... any day!

I started as Alliance then got seriously into watching PVP videos. I noticed tons of top PVPers were horde and at the same time I bought into the hype that PVPers play on PVP servers and play Horde. So I kind of followed the crowd. Also vivid memories of my alliance twink getting GY camped, bad teams, horrible W/L %

Over time arena was introduced, racials balanced, rebalanced about 50x. I still stayed with Horde but queues are getting longer these days. Too many people think "PVP=Horde" so they play Horde and lucky Alliance basically get instant queues while Horde ones continue to grow.

Now I just have too many characters to transfer, plus when you play long enough on a server you meet people. But really the queues get on my nerves and I'd switch to Alliance if my friends did. Ideally to balance PVP queues Blizzard should allow account wide Horde->Alliance transfers on PVP servers because 99% of PVP servers are utterly Horde dominated and you cant ignore the vast difference in queue times. Even with BG merge. In fact the BG merge proved more then anything that there are simply way too many Horde PVPers in relation to Alliance.

I'd love for them to make new types of Battlegrounds that are Horde vs. Horde (make up some Lore where Hellscream wants to find the best soldiers in the Horde Army and we are fighting for glory or something), or like I said allow people to transfer their entire group of Horde characters to Alliance. With BOA gear quite a few people these days have 10 characters on a server, might not all be 80, but for some people they are. Paying $250 to transfer all toons, no thx.

I really think they need to do something drastic to fix queues, BG merge wasnt the answer.

When I started playing, I made one of every race, so I could experience all the classes & starting zones. Tauren druid, night elf rogue, undead priest, dwarf warrior...

My paladin was draenei. At about level 40 I realized she was my favorite. So, I stopped devoting equal time to all my chars, chose my main, and that was that. If I'd happened to choose a BE for my paladin, I'd probably be Horde right now.

Truth be told Tauren are my favorite race, but my server is probably 85% Alliance so Horde have a rough time progression-wise (didn't know that when I joined), and I've got a great guild. So, no going back for me.

I already hate worgen, there are so many of them and they're just so.... uninteresting.
Worgen are pretty much the new night- blood elves.

I am Horde, and the sports team in my area is vastly superior to the sports team in your area.

Look at your DPS. There are gnomes in your DPS. GNOMES! And you wonder why we gank you.

I started off Horde because that's what the friend who got my wife and I into the game played.

We were there for probably close to a year before the guild started getting on our nerves badly enough that we decided to just let those characters rest for a bit and rerolled on another server Alliance-side. We found some friendly folks and ended up transferring our formerly-Horde toons over. During this period I alted like crazy and ended up with 7 80's before that guild just . . .fizzled out. We ended up server transferring (still Ally though) to where we are now with a large, active guild of people we really like and who actually get stuff done.

I still personally like Horde better though. Their travel beats Ally by miles. I like their cities better. I like their races better. And now with Goblins! But I'm not willing to ditch my guild.

I think I'll just do a fresh start somewhere and learn to split my time. (I've always had all my toons together in a guild.) I'm good enough at leveling and enjoy it enough that I'm not paying for any more transfers I don't think. My 'Lock is the only one who has enough that'd be worth bothering anyway.
