PSA - Don't **** Off the HealerFollow

#52 Dec 23 2010 at 11:23 AM Rating: Decent
I love how the assumptions and name-calling just take off. I have yet to be uncivilized or attack anyone other than saying if you're a healer and you're pissed about something make sure its not yourself. There are just as many bad healers percentage wise as there are bad DPS and bad tanks.

And again, if you have to band aid in the middle of an encounter you have already failed, forgetting the fact that most classes have a way to self heal without interfering with their base mechanics. How many times I have to say that is beyond me.

I don't know why you assume I've only been playing for a few months - I'm a long term (1.1 nilla) on-and-off player. I USED to Bandaid on my Warlock all the time because back in the day there was no Harvest. I do not intend to take anyone's right to play they want to play away. You can play horribly wrong all day for all I care - but if/when you do, do not go throwing blame around simply because you are a healer and you think that you're the only one working. Bratty healers are a dime a dozen now a-days, and from what I've gathered THEY are the ones who've been playing since Wrath.

Situation: Stuff hits fan.

What do you do?

Option 1, The aggressive strategy: Plow ahead full steam and do what your spec does best, pop those trinkets and max your DPS, use the mana pot, and innervate, burn stuff quicker and get the incoming damage down before things get even worse. Big heals, tank holds it all and blows every last CD. Go all out and overwhelm with sheer force.

Option 2, The defensive strategy: You hunker in the bunker. CC, bandaid, off heals, kite, delay and slow the fight down. Try to reduce the incoming damage enough so you can rely on efficient healing more and outlast. Rope-a-dope done WoW style.

Which option is 'correct' is going to be situational. The hard part is that everyone may read the situation slightly differently and come up with a different action plan. Different people will likely be better at one or the other, and this will influence their choice (the correct option is the one you do best right?). Some can stall and play conservatively like a pro, for others their best defense is a good offense. People will naturally play to their strengths.

The worst thing is going to be if half the group tries to go all out and then a couple of people try to hunker down. This will probably happen a lot in an unorganized PuG as you are likely to get a random mix of both types of people. So how do you overcome this? Communication is key, and knowing what the plan is before stuff goes bad your saving grace. Unfortunately, again, there's really not much motivation to communicate in a random. Really an organized response (any organized response) to a threat is your best chance, IMO.

Sure using CC and self-healing can be as bad as not doing it. But for heaven sakes if one way isn't working with a group, please be flexible enough to try the other. Smiley: rolleyes

Edit: Multiple edits as I keep thinking about stuffs and adding things.
