I am hoping that someone on here can give me a hand. I am just getting back into playing WOW after a three year break. Had a level 40 warrior last time, this time I want to roll a mage. I am using a new dell alienwear laptop with 64bit windowns vista, so the computer is not the problem. I downloaded questhelper from curse.com and unzipper and added it to my addons file. I used addons before and had no problems with them. Once I start the game all quest helper says is "I can not find that item" every quest is says the same. What is the problem?

Questhelper was discontinued starting with 4.0.1
*More researched answer:
Seems wowinterface has a QuestHelperLite to help those in dire need. There also appears to be a redux in process of the original QH.
Of course the in game one isn't all that bad these days and should provide enough info.

The default quest helper in the UI is really good. It gives map locations and what not of where you need to go. When you click on the map it also provides an arrow on your mini map of a direction you need to go for whatever has been selected. It's a lot better than wasting resources on an addon.

Personally, I'm using Questhelper2 (from curse) just for reference. The default one is ok, but doesn't show me the best routes etc.

Do you also have a hockey helmet that you wear all the time so you don't give yourself a concussion every day?
My only gripe with the default helper is that it oftentimes wants me to go across the map before doing stuff right next to me. Nothing major, though.
Oh, and it doesn't update the minimap arrow until you open up the map.

Of course not, just the same as I don't NEED any addons. Not Omen, not recount, not my buff frames, not DBM, none of them. I really don't NEED the default quest arrow that Blizz implemented either. After all, the quest text itself is perfectly clear and tells you exactly where to go / what to do...
But these tools are there to be used. Someone went to the effort of making Questhelper2 and it would be a shame if no-one used it and appreciated his / her hard work. So I do. And if it makes my WoW life just 0.5% easier, then that justifies the minute it took me to download and install the addon.
And no, I don't wear the helmet everyday, I just save it for Sunday best. And for the times when I'm facerolling the keyboard during WotLK heriocs. I keep hitting my head on my mouse... :rolleyes:

You can make it update the arrow without opening your world map, too. Where you see the quest tracking text on your main screen, each quest should have a little circle (with a number, I think) to the left of it. Right clicking that dot will change your current minimap tracking arrow to that quest, and left clicking the dot will actually open the world map.

Yeah, sorry, I mistook you for someone that could take 0.5 seconds to look at a map and thus figure out the most effective way to do your quests.

I use Carbonite, available at carboniteaddon dot com. I like it and they seem to keep it updated very well.

one thing I liked about QuestHelper was knowing if I was getting involved in a 20-quest long chain, or a very short chain, or even a single quest.
I rarely used the comments in QH to actually help with finishing quests, Blizzard's quest descriptions are satisfyingly complete, in my opinion.
So the only element of QH I actually miss is the list of which quests and how many there are in the chain.
