Searching for a character nameFollow

#1 Dec 15 2010 at 2:15 PM Rating: Decent
Is there a way to search for a character in World of Warcraft? I am searching for a friend, but I can't find a type of search function to see if he's online. How about an addon that will allow me to do that?

If you know his character's name, just log into the game and add him to your friend list. That'll tell you when he's online as long as you're online too, assuming same faction.

Can't you just call/e-mail/text him/her and ask them for their server and character?

Edit:
Or, if you already know that, do what Pold said.

Just type "/who friendsname" (no quotes.) If he's online it'll say so.

If they are a really good friend, you could add them by real ID. Then you can see them even if they're on different servers, or different Blizzard games even.

A few friends and I were going to setup the realID thing until we really read the description. Your real name will not only be displayed to your friend, but to everyone else on your friend's friends list. It's a damn in-game social network. **** that.

They changed this awhile ago. The friends of friends thing can be disabled.

Then they should probably change the tooltip since that's the main reason a lot of my friends, including myself, don't use it.

Because your friend's friends will know who you are, right?

I'm sure Theo, Feyras and Isyris will sell my name to one of their friends, and I'm concerned with what their friends are doing.

I'm just saying...
