Hey guys i currently have a level 42 mage
would it be faster for me to level from 42 to lvl 60
or use the 3xp Recruit a friend bonus and re roll a mage and go 1-60?

as far as I know when you use recruit a friend you get "gratable levels" you can attach to other characters pre 60. So you could do both at the same time I suppose. It does not take long to get 42-60 though. No point in wasting money.

Playing through a bunch of terrible weather here, I leveled a character from 30-67 between December 7 and 14. It was a lot of playtime, but only a week of real time. Gaining levels was a complete breeze until level 60, when it started to slow down noticably.

I'd say levelling your current guy would be faster, but you won't get any of the RAF bonuses.

I'd level the 42 mage and save the RAF bonus for a future character. To sidetrack does RAF bonus stack with the guild perk and BOA items?

Yes, but you will out level your RAF person, Unless they have BoA from transfering a toon onto that account.

Leveling is cake now even without the BOA gear that gives XP bonuses. I take it you're a new player?

If you don't have any professions yet then pick up mining and herbalism - you'll have to back track a bit but once those skills are on par with your level not only do you now have a good way to make money (selling the stuff you find on the AH) but the XP rewards for every time you mine a node or pick a herb are super sweet right now.

Toss in archeology and, while there's no cash rewards to it, the XP rewards for it seem to be 2-3 times that of mining/herbalism - do all three as you level and you'll be 85 in no time.

Edit - more tips for fast leveling

Always park your toon in a city or an inn before you log off so that you get what's called "rested experience" - you'll know that you're toon will be resting because you'll see the little circle on the portrait of your toon change from the level to "ZZZ." You can save up to two levels worth of rested XP before it caps and it does refill, meaning that if you are at max rested XP, go half a level and then call it a day, that half a level can refill itself - put your mouse on your XP bar at the bottom of the screen to tell if you're getting rested XP.

Grab as many quests at once as you can - quests give way faster XP then simply killing stuff, plus, you get gear to boot - use your map to find where to go for the quests (hit M and make sure the quest finder feature in the lower right hand corner is checked off as being ON) and try to hit areas that have a lot of quests close together. Do them all at once so you don't waste time running back and forth to the quest giver (the only exception being if the quest giver is VERY close, we're talking 30 seconds running/riding time) as that probably means he's got more busy work for you in that area. When you clear a batch then head back to town and turn them all in at once and pick up the follow up quests - rinse and repeat.

Run instances as often as possible - you get bonus XP for being in a group plus there's an XP reward for finishing the instance. Additionally, mobs inside instances are elites, meaning they give better XP, plus there's the gear rewards from the instance itself plus the loot bag for finishing it - better gear means more damage and survivability and that means faster leveling - the gear you can't use you can sell
