Vial of the sandsFollow

I put hours into Archaeology for one reason: to get that recipe. 1 week of digging spawn points I finally get the canopic jar which contained...nothing. The next artifact is some 150 fragment Scarab that I don't want and have no option of skipping. I get 1 Tol'Vir dig site every blue moon, which means I need 4-6 hours for each "common" artifact, and 12-14 hours for a "rare" artifact. Why make it so hard on Alchemist? It’s like saying to Engineers ; learn fishing to 525 and the turtle mount will have a chance to **** the recipe for the Motorcycle.

Anyway, who’s going after this recipe besides stupid me?

You do realize that Vial of the Sands is no longer BoP, right? You don't need the recipe yourself unless you're looking for a profit. Assuming profit is your motivation, AND you just got an epic pattern, I feel somewhat less sympathetic Smiley: tongue

The mats and gold for this is insane, i don't want to think how much they can sell it on AH. I'm up to 9 rares so far, but still not what i'm looking for. I will have the "Professor" title before the Recipe for sure.

Even if you have the recipe, you still need to pay for the exact same materials. If it's taking you more than a couple of hours, farm some embersilk and sell that to cover the crafter's fee instead.

I will get my title and let the grind go, you are correct.

Post some pics when you have the dragon, it looks awesome! Smiley: grin

The people that do have this recipe, and are alchemists are going to make a killing from this thing.

I almost want to level an alchemist now.

It was intended to be super rare - think about the druid raven mount or the fisherman turtle mount.

Let's also not forget that this mount is effectively giving alchies an upgraded version of the class ability druid flight form - not only are you turning into the flying mount but you can carry a passenger to boot.

Assuming you mean alchemists and not drunks, THE MOUNT IS NOT BOP. Anyone can buy it! Smiley: mad Yes, only alchemists (and archeologists) can make it, but then they can just sell it off. I personally think it's a somewhat foolish idea, as it requires not one but two high-level professions and a ton of luck, and then they just go make it BoE anyway.

Someone on Sen'Jin already has it, and they were trying to sell it for 500k yesterday. Surprisingly no takers yet Smiley: oyvey

500K? Just out of curiosity, what is the gold cap? I can't imagine having 500k

I think the gold cap used to be around 215k or so, but I heard it was raised. Not really sure.

Seems Cataclysm raised it to just under a million: http://pwnwear.com/forum/gold-cap-raised-t645.html

I've seen several BoE epics on the AH at 100k gold, so 500k gold doesn't surprise me.

1.5 sec cast, not instant, so not really.

Also doesn't allow harvesting herbs while you're a dragon, which is another thing alchemists were looking forward to.

Harvesting? I’m a big *** **** dragon with my BFF on my back going on a killing rampage. (Wait; let me pick this beautiful flower), harvesting was not a concern.

Looks like I've got a lot of work ahead of me yet, as I am going for this recipe. I'm maxed as an alchemist and I'm currently 400 skill in archaeology! I actually made the last 16 million xp I needed to hit 85 just from doing archaeology, 15k xp at a time!

Some people were jealous of Tauren druids, with their new .5 sec harvest time + not having to come out of swift flight form to gather herbs.

Is 16 million the complete 80-85?

If so, I suspect that the archeology xp will be nerfed. Hard. I very much doubt Blizz intended people to level via archeology.

84-85 is a little over 9 million, 83-84 is around 5.2 mil. Total exp from 80 to 85 is just over 22 million.

Still. 22 - 16 = 6. Or, in other words, this guy is saying he got over two-thirds of his 80 to 85 xp just from archeology.

I stand by my predection of impending nerf.

I feel archeology is fairly well balanced as is, personally.

1. You get NO guild exp doing it.

2. You only get regular EXP doing it. At 85, you get NOTHING.

3. The best items take 10+ dig sites to complete. Normally this would be 200k+ exp. At 85, you get nothing.

Basically archeology is good going up, but I would level SO much faster with quests, and with more rewards (rep, items, money). Archeology, to me, seems balanced, in that you get more exp than gathering professions, but hardly any profit and no rep or items.

Edit: speeling

Oh trust me, it was not even close to as fast as questing was for another toon of mine. I put in a ton of hours getting that xp.

I'm splitting my time pretty evenly between my Assistant Professor hunter and my paladin working with the Earthen Ring (Vash'jir to Deepholm soon to TH).

Sometime tonight, questing will be at 83.5 while Archaeology is at 82.5. My paladin is pulling further ahead with each level - they hit 81 at just about the same time, thanks to some help from doing an instance.

While archaeology does make full use of rested bonus XP (it's a true doubling, while it gets stretched out during questing), I don't think it's unbalanced at all. Particularly because, as mentioned by someone else, I'm not getting any guild rep from it except for the few achievements along the way.
