Anyone using a Logitech G13?Follow

I just made arrangements to pick up a "lightly used" Logitech G13 for $50.

I am just wondering if anyone has played around with this before.

My single biggest gripe with WoW has always been the meta-game of UI/keybind maintenance. There are just so many abilities and macros that I need key-bound in order to feel like I'm being effective. I used to use a Logitech G15 (the old one with 18 G-keys) but I broke one of the feet on it and it's very cumbersome.

I have seen videos on YouTube of people playing other games with a G13. Some people used the thumb-stick to control movement, and others used the WASD-like keys in the middle of the pad.

I have one and dig it the most. I use the thumb pad for movement, binding it to forward, backward, and strafing left and right. That leaves all the finger keys free for abilities, and the mouse free for turning and mouseover healing.

If you don't have fat fingers, get the Ideazon Fang. I've been using one for about 2 years and I've gotten to the point where I can't play competitively without it. Between the Fang and my mouse, I don't even touch my keyboard, aside from switching the LCD to different screens depending on what I'm doing.

I'm a huge fan of the Logitech G line of products. My G15 will be replaced with the G510 next month, my Performance Mouse MX will be replaced with the G700 next month, and my wife is getting me the G930 headset for Christmas.

With that said, the G13 went back to the store within 24 hours. The slope of the G13 is awkward. If you rest your fingers on the top row, the bottom row is almost impossible to reach, since the rows slope down. If you rest your fingers on the middle row so you can reach the top and bottom rows, the thumbstick becomes awkward to use. You end up resting the side of your thumb on it instead of laying your thumb flat. Also, being so used to the fang, the G13 could really use another 4 or 5 buttons.

I don't know if I could ever get used to any of those gaming pads. They just look too wonky to me. A lot of people use ESDF to move around which gives them a few more keys around their movement area. Though I'm not any sort of amazing player so it's hard for me to get used to change. I pretty much have everything on 1-+ and F1-F12 and I usually just click pretty much anything from F5 on.

I've tried keybinding things around my movement such as QERFCXZ or something but I can never for the life of me remember what they are so I usually just give up. I know it takes time to learn but I'm too lazy.

I put my first three fingers on the second row, my pinky on the third row, and my thumb against the thumbthingie the same way you'd rest it on a mouse. It's very comfortable for me. I'm a pretty small person and I have no trouble reaching all the buttons either.

Different people's experiences with these gadgets are always widely varied. In general I think the ideal is to go into a brick and mortar store that has a bunch of them actually out and try your hand on a few and see.

That's when you put the Razer Naga on your birthday list. ;) I don't even have to use modifiers, for the most part.

I actually picked up a Fang a couple of years ago and quickly returned it. There is no wrist rest so I couldn't find a comfortable resting position for my hand. It also felt like a cheap piece of plastic. I know that personal opinion is everything though.

I'm excited to go grab it in a few minutes. I'll post my impressions when I get back :)

I have a Belkin N52 (not the TE), and love it. I use the 14 buttons are the top, and have the orange button above the dpad as CTRL, which gives me 28 commands at my fingertips pretty much instantly, and I can use the dpad with my thumb for movement. The only downside is I can't press the orange button and use the dpad at the same time, so I have my lesser used abilites assigned to ctrl+xx.
The biggest problem with this pad? It's not been supported by Belkin since they and Razer released the TE in 2008, which means there are no windows 7 drivers.
I've managed to force the software through under compatibility mode, but if my pc goes on standby, for example, I have to reboot the whole machine to get my pad to work, and I have to manually load which layout it uses several times before the software remembers which one is the default.

I had this problem also. The only thing I remember doing to get a semi fix (not having to reload my WoW settings each time) is to set it to Run as Administrator. I'll double check when I get home on any additional settings and edit this post if I find something else that may help you.

I use the fang and totally needto play WoW now (plus a 5+ button mouse).

I suggest people to get a game board..they are awesome one you get use to it. Most game stores or even best buy seem to sell them now, and even have them out so you can place your hand on it to see how it feels.

A guildie was a total Clicker, and after she complained how PvPing and some other things were really hard for her to do (and explained she clicked to play :x) I talked to her about using a game board. She now uses the G13 (been about 3 weeks or so now) and she totally loves it.

$50 for a G13 seems like a good deal. Hope you enjoy it, once you get use to it.
