Twilight Highlands - Programmers ran ragged?(quest spoiler)Follow

So far, this expansion is fairly epic. It surpasses my expectations pretty well. Vash'jir was so neat because it was so novel. No zone like it before. Uldum was done so beautifully and the quests were written very well.

Twilight highlands however, is running some issues, and not the zone in general, but the Red Dragon quest line in particular.

I loved the wildhammer quests, dwaves = awesome, though I did feel bad about killing all the wildlife for miles just for supplies for a wedding.

However, when I got to the red dragon part, things have been falling apart a bit. The story itself is great. Its intense, loretastic, etc. However, the actual mechanics seem to not be up to part compared to the rest of the expansion.

First, the quest where you have to kill the twilight thieves and get the eggs. They're all running to this portal right? Well, I went down there, to the portal, attack a guy, turn around and there's more than 20 mobs just rush in to the room and flatten me. Now, this is mild, but it's kind of sloppy, they randomly aggro, or don't, and suddenly appear and there's nothing you can do. Grumble grumble whatever, not that bad.

But then I get to the cutscene where Alextraza confronts Deathwing. I'm going 'yay cutscene!' but after two lines, all the mobs phase out, and the cutscene just stares at the ground for like 3 minutes and finally ends. Uh, ok... cutscene fail.

So at least I can gather what happened, because alextraza and deathwing are fighting in the air. I get the quest where I ride a red drake to fight the black dragons. You're given 3 abilities like it's going to be some tough fight. One fireball, one heal, and one move to finish them off. Well the thing is, two fireballs kills *any* of them. And it's not like they ever touch you. You just finish the quest off plinking them with the fireball and it's nothing. It just feels like someone threw it together and nobody checked to see if it was easy or hard or trivialized.

Then the quest where you have the chain to pull yourself up on the enemy drakes to kill them in the obsidian forest. When the drake gets low on life, the game goes OMG SHOOT ANOTHER OR U FALL!!!11 but of course there's never any others within range. And it doesn't even matter either, it's not like you take damage from falling, and you can just shoot another when they do get close, from the ground. There's absolutely no reason for the game freaking about the drake falling, it's literally no issue at all. Again, just seems like sloppy programming that wasn't tested out.

So that's that so far.

The thing is, the quest story itself is really good, and this is supposed to be the epic quest lines of the zone. Its the core story of the fight against Deathwing! But having these constant issues is really taking me out of the mood. And after doing Uldum that was done so well, and Vash'jir, etc which were so well done, I have to wonder if the programmers were just on their last legs. :P I mean this is a *lot* of work, like woah. I can't be too upset can I? :P

That's not Twilight Highlands specific tbh. I've seen and heard about a gazillion of those small little errors/phasing problems.

The Schnotzz cinematic in Uldum bugged for me. If you haven't quested in Uldum you can't enter Lost City of Tol'Vir manually because the instance portal phases out. I managed to get myself stuck on a phasing border and got the Uldum 'Imprisonement - you cannot move' debuff at a completely random place, forcing me to hearthstone or relog to be able to move again. You can't mount inside the Shimmering Grotto if you're in the position of the Verne, even if the Verne isn't even there in your phase. And speaking of the Verne, it's built so small that Taurens have troubles moving around inside it.

I suppose you can't really call anything of this horrible, but there are definitely a couple of sloppy little errors here and there - can't help but feeling like some parts of Cataclysm were somewhat rushed...

One used to be able to mount inside of Tenebrous Cavern/Alliance Cavern I can't Remember The Name of, but something changed.

Now you have to swim ALL THE FREAKING WAY out of the cave and THEN mount up.

I hope this change wasn't intentional -- I hated every quest that sent me back to that stinking cave because of it. Doesn't help that the cave has such a huge dismount radius and that the actual entrance shaft is quite long...

Last quest in the Worgen zone is kinda buggy. The one where you are on the airship.

I can't remember if it's in Burning Steppes or Searing Gorge, but there's now a little quest line where these NPC's tell tall tales about when Deathwing came and how they supposedly showed him up (punch in the face, etc). It's pretty cool to walk up to DW in his human form.

However, the quest itself is buggy as heck, it's REALLY opposite-of-obvious what you're supposed to do (head east along the canyon, jumping over stuff those rock wall/piles that it's almost impossible to climb over, etc). It's supposed to induce a laugh at the end, but by the end I was so frustrated I just wanted to move on.

I'm sure they will work on these kinds of issues as time passes. Still a great expansion.

It's in Badlands. And if you're talking about the part where you're the dwarf, you don't climb over the rocks, you punch through them.
