Quote:
After only a few hours of Cataclysm being available, Forscience, a Paladin on the European server Neptulon, has already hit level 85, the new level cap introduced in the expansion. Forscience's time to reach the cap is just 5 hours and 30 minutes, shortly after the launch of Cataclysm! Can't imagine how he managed to do that. There must be a great team to help Forscience to be the first person to reach level 85. Anyway, congratulations! Below are some pictures showing when Forscience reached level 85 and according to Forscience, he will put a video showing how they managed to achieve world first.

Every new expansion makes players crazy. Anyhow, Congrats.

Another Athene manipulation.

N.B. Nextone, again citing mmmosite, is the same guy who posted the "Farewell, old Azeroth" thread ... also linking to mmosite. The exact same post was made by "deadplayer" on another site.

My money says -- spammer for mmosite.

Pretty sure I saw realm first somewhere around 14,30 this afternoon. Fast, but not 5-hours fast. Was a Paladin though.

Mob tagging, he judges it and his team of helpers, not in his group, kill it. He grinded to 85 basically tagging as many mobs as possible. It's within the rules (unlike his dungeon tagging at the WotLK launch where mobs gave 10 times the xp) so i'm guessing it's a legit EU first 85.

I thought they killed the "tagging" thing back during TBC, when that Warlock, or whatever he was, did the same thing.

You still get full xp from a kill if someone else does the majority of damage to it?

When WOTLK launched, I was 80 before most people had run OK. There were three or four people that beat me, but I was more proud of myself (yes, pride in a video game :P ) as I did it the 'honest' way, by questing and dungeons. Everyone else did it by tagging or instance boosting. My server first (who was in my guild) was the worst of them. She'd go to sleep, then her boyfriend would step in and take over.
I don't get why people have to cheat their way to a 'first' even though it's not an earned first.
And, to the OP, stop spamming your ****** website.

They do it for the fame and notoriety they will have for the next 4 or 5... seconds it takes for the little blurb to scroll out of the text window.

The first 80 on my server was almost exactly 12 hours after launch. I had already played, slept, and came back online when they got it. 5 and a half hours is nuts. Oh, and the first on my server was a Death Knight.

Was a DK on mine as well. I logged on 18 or so hours after launch to see some of the word 1st, but none where done in 5 hours..

Does anyone else think that going to 85 instead of 90 was a mistake? I hit 85 last night, only a week after Cata released. I play very casually and most of the XP was from Archeology, as I only did one of the new zones. I've done no BGs or dungeons either but you get so much XP from professions that 5 levels is really easy to get.

The level count isn't what matters, it is the total amount of XP needed to reach that level. Blizzard wanted the leveling process to take approximately the amount of time that it took to get 70-80, and I believe they succeeded for the most part. I'm willing to wager that most people play the game for what happens at level 60/70/80/85 and not what happens in the middle (not that it can't be enjoyed, but generally 'end-game' is what people stick around for).

No. I have no problem with 85 being the new cap.

I do somewhat think that it was far easier than it was to level in TBC or WotLK, due to profession exp, but I don't mind much, since I hate leveling.

I didn't find it much easier then Wrath, just leveling with quests and the occasional instance. It's certainly more work to get into heroics then it was in wrath, and I've replaced way more gear then I did in wrath.

Yeah, I kept my Brutal gear well into the first arena season.

Killing people in level 80 epics when I was in 70 epics was hilarious, though.

"Server first babe, Server first..."

and she was all

"SEEEEEEERRRRRVER FIIIIIIRRRRRRST!"
