It's probably been covered before, but the search feature failed me.

Doing some low level quests in Tirisfal and Silverpine (Forsaken starting zones), I've come across several quests that mention the fall of the Lich King and the Wrathgate incident. The starting cinematic for the Blood Elves also mention the death of Kael'thas. Which is all fine and dandy since I've already been through Outland and Northrend on my Druid and can relate to it all.

What I'm curious about is when my low level toon hits level 60 and moves to Outland and 70 and moves to Northrend. Will I then participate in events that have already happened? Seems like they sort of broke Outland and Northrend off of the timeline, but I can't imagine why. Makes those two areas worthless, unless they revamped the zones to also indicate that the Lich King and Illidan are dead.

And I know I predicted this when I first heard of the changes to Azeroth in Cataclysm. I knew it was going to mess up the chronology of the game something fierce. I guess I'm just gloating over a cup of 'told you so'.

Yeah, the chronology is busted once you get to Outlands, and on into Northrend. At least in Outlands, from a lore perspective, you don't have 100 quests where Illidan, Vashj or Kael walk up, laugh about how they could kill you like some bad Bond villain, but leave you left alive. You do still get to see Emo Hellwhimper moping around Nagrand if you're Horde, though.

I guess they could put Chromie in somewhere and give a speech about how the Black Dragonflight is acting behind the scenes to undo the great victories over Kael, Illidan, Vashj and Arthas, and now it's up to you to stop them. Instead of the Warchief's Call board, you get the breadcrumb quest to Outlands and Northrend from Chromie somewhere in Org/SW.

Edit: Mai grammer and speling iz gud befur i haz coffee.

This was mentioned at BlizzCon and the official answer was "for the time being you will be going back in time when you go to Outlands and Northrend". That makes it sound like it will be fixed eventually, which is why I think the next xpac will be the Burning Legion again. They can update Outlands the same was they did Azeroth.

I'm thinking (hoping?) that in one of the next expansions, Blizz will revamp Outland and all those storylines. I can be patient tho, I'm having too much fun doing the new old areas in Azeroth on horde and alliance alts. Normally, when I hit 58, I only pass thru Hellfire, Zangarmarsh, some of Terrokar, and Nagrand to get to 68. I've never really quested in the other zones, and I think I'm missing a lot.

I'm wondering why there are like 5 flight paths in Silverpine! I decided to go try out Hillsbrad on my 20ish Shaman. As I was running there I found the Forsaken Rear Guard flight path. So I continued on down to Hillsbrad and didn't bother with the Sepulcher and find that flight path right at the border. I do the awesome quest where I'm a quest giver and head back for the day.

When I get back to UC I get the "no paths connect to this one." So I had to run back through and I ended up picking up the high command, Sepulcher, and I think one other one maybe on my way out there.

There are 4-5 flight paths in quite a few zones. It makes it easier when you're able to fly from your quest hub (and from what I've found, sometimes able to fly to the next hub).

I'm all for it, TBH.

I don't mind it, it was just annoying that I had to find that RIGHT one to connect them all.

Also is any of that phased? I swear I saw another FP, well I think the one at High Command but when I went to it it disappeared.

An herb disappeared on me in Azshara too!

I couldn't find the one at High Command (on my rogue), so I'd assume that yes, it is.

I think you have to watch a little scene between Sylvannas and Garrosh before the one at the High Command opens up. I wandered in while the scene was going on, picked up the quest, got credit, and after the thing was done, I was able to pick up the FP.

It would be nice if they had put an intro quest from Chromie in at 58 that basically says "Dude, the Cataclysm really F'd sh*t up--we need you to make sure time doesn't break. It would basically just turn Outland and Northrend into on massive Caverns of Time thing. And considering you need to zone into both areas, I don't think that would be too bad. Just put some bronze dragons in front of the portal in the Blasted Lands and on the boats/zeppelins to NR.

Would still be awkward, but you wouldn't have the horrible timeline inconsistency.

What I find REALLY weird is that they didn't bother to revamp the BE or Draenei areas at all. Basically, they just added some target dummies for the starter quests. It's super awkward because the BEs are crying about losing the sunwell, calling Kael'thas their savior, fighting Scourge agents of the LK, etc. And all this comes after an intro recounting BE history from BC through NR and expresses their mission for the future. And that mission isn't a topic of your quests AT ALL.

Plus, BEs and Draenei are supposed to be getting a better place in the Lore in Cata. It's just odd that they wouldn't SLIGHTLY revamp 4 zones to make the transition easy.

I'd get not actually adding new quests and such. But they could have easily made some changes to quest texts to update the time in the zones. For instance, they could have managed to trim the scourge nuisance some but then had MORE arcane fallout from the cataclysm, which keeps the malfunctioning sanctums current. The scourge don't have to disappear, just make the search for Dar'Khan's influences a past-tense type thing. And instead of him, have another Undead elf leading that base (Tar'Khan, the Apprentice!!11!!one). Problems largely solved.
