Adding new classes and races is for casual players. Raiders want more high level content.

So now Alliance have Shamans. Big deal. The high-end raiding guilds will be hitting level 70 content and still waiting for the people that rolled shaman to catch up to them, they'll probably be at lvl 60 the same time that others get to lvl 70. Are those lvl 70 really going to wait for those lvl 60s to get to lvl 70? Also don't forget that those lvl 60 need to get geared up to the same point as the lvl 70s.

Adding new regions and levels is cool, it trivializes the older content but that's okay. But adding new classes/races and at the same time adding new higher end content? It's only for two different demographics. Casual players like the new classes/races but raiders hate it because having to wait for a new class (especially if the company makes it essential for newer raiding) just gets in the way of the kind of playing they want.

Expansion #2 will be some new high-end dungeons (no level cap raise). New race and classes (this is the only logical time to add new classes, as they level cap isn't that high and the new dungeons gives people time to wait as people level up to 70 with the new classes. Also in this expansion NEEDS to be all new lvl 1-60 content (dungeons and lands).

Expansion #3 will be new lvl 60-70 content (dungeons and lands) and level cap raise with new lvl 70-80 content.

I think that the needs of casual players far outweigh the needs of raiders, however. Casual players make up the majority of WoW's playerbase and when the game was taking a turn for the worst (40-man raids being the only added content in most major patches), there was a firestorm of complaints. More of WoW needs to be about exploring and questing, and less of it needs to cramming into some obscure and dank labyrinth with a gaggle of other people fighting over epics.

If they keep raising the level cap higher and higher, let alone 60-70 will be a long haul with over 400k per level. It will almost take as long as 1-60. If they continue raising the level cap, I think players would get to tired of spending all of that time leveling, just to be outdated by an expansion in a few months.

You'd be surprised, i'm working on my 3rd 60. Now i've been playing since feb 2005, and i've clocked roughly 90 days combined on my first 2 60's. There are people on this forum(read calabar) that just level new toons all the time. There will always be someone that levels all the time. Hell look at ffxi, that's most of that game, sitting lfg (although i've heard it's changed).

MMO's are one and only one thing, a never ending grind you can do with people.

The Burning Crusade IS the casual player's wet dream.

I'm all for casual players - I am all for the huge wealth of soloable and 5-10 man content, new races, new starting areas, faster ways to get better PvP gear, top gear for skill not time (arena), etc.

There is an unstoppable wave of progression of the end-game population. Blizzard has to keep catering to them, too. Burning Crusade will cater to them for a short while, but within 3 months the top players will have finished all or most of the current L70 content and then they'll start rolling out a bunch more for the raiders.

Overall I think things will be good and happy between casuals and raiders as long as Blizzard gives raiders endless progression and casuals endless distractions AND ways to get comprable (enough to be competitive, even if it's not quite as good) gear @ level cap as the raiders.

This was well written and gave me alot of hope for the somewhat far-away expansions. I would like to see the underwater portion of the game explored alot more, such as your suggestion for the maelstrom. Would allow new tactics for raid encounters, and a new mount variant. Man I would never leave my computer if you could be a gnome in a shoddy metal submarine piloting through the maelstrom.

the whole idea in general is good, but it should be saved for a later expansion. Why you might ask, well the maelstrom is the prison of 3 of the old gods. im sure we all know that these "old gods" are horrendously powerful. while some may say that they are not just because of C'thunn, but you have to remember that c'thunn even though he was a old god, he is a heavly injured old god. also remember how hard it was to take down ragnaros in MC, sure he got easy after awhile but another thing that must be reilzed is he was just a luetenaint. point is they are incredably powerful. im thinking say northrend next? after all i dont think mr. lich king arthas, could stnad up to a force that nearly had a stalemate with the titans.

Nope, Maelstorm is where capital of the naga is, where Well of Eternity and capital of night elves once was.

Old Gods are imprisoned in centre of the planet and C'Thun isn't heavily injured, it's only his EYE that is conjured by the Quiraji that you have to fight. They of course try to summon more, but everytime some crapy heroes come and beat that eye into bloody pieces.
