StavesFollow

I would love to see a newbie forum so that we can ask q's without getting flamed.

That being said, lvl18 undead holy priest looking for ways to get less damage when soloing. I thought staves might be a better way to protect myself. Allakhazam, thottbot and other players keep telling me different things. I hear the horde trainer is in Orgrimmar or Thunder Bluff. Visited both and found the stave vendors. But where's the trainer??? Do I need to be a certain level before I can train in staves?

Thanks!

You have to goto the Weapons Master in Thunderbluff to learn staves.

Staves aren't really going to help you protect yourself. Unless maybe it has a +stamina that will raise your HPs, or a +defense rating.

As for the trainer, I'm fairly certain he's in Thunder Bluff. Look for any guard that you can speak to. When you click them, you can ask where the weaponmaster is, and they'll give you the name and a little red flag appears on your minimap. If tha tweaponmaster doesn't train staves, he'll be able to tell you who does.

Go to Orgrimmar - Find a city guard and ask to be directed to the weapons trainer. Follow the arrow on your minimap until you reach an NPC with the title of weapons trainer and talk to him. Pay attention to the dialogue because the trainer will tell you where to find other weapons trainers if the weapon you are looking for isn't one that he trains.

City guards are terrific when it comes to finding weapon trainers, class trainers and profession trainers as well as a few other City locations.

Edit...

Okay - Go to Thunder Bluff and ask the guards there.

It's been a while since I have looked for staff training.

you only get flamed for:

posting stupid crap
asking a question where 2 seconds worth of effort would have got you the answer (ie; it's a link in the menus on the left, or a post on the first page)

Other than that most questions are greeted with a helpful answer.

To answer your questions a staff won't reduce your damage taken at all, with a few exceptions of staves that actually have +Armor on them.

First off:
I would respec shadow for leveling, in essence you will take less damage because you will kill the mob faster.

Other than that, just upgrade your gear from quests/AH when you see one and as the armor gets higher you will take less damage.

By the way, if you want a staff, you're only a few levels from being able to get the Crescent Staff from a Wailing Caverns quest.

It's a nice weapon for the level, and you'll probably keep it for several more levels before you find a better weapon.
