Interesting Idea for Gold/character sellersFollow

I am prefacing this with I am not a seller, nor sell. I wanted to create this subject because of the everlasting amount of idiots that come here to sell.

So Here is my idea:

I feel we should create a thread, and sticky it. The thread title would be deemed something like:

"Gold Sellers Post here"

or

"Selling something? Post here for fastest response"

My basis behind it is that Gold Sellers, and Character sellers alike are traditionally not the brightest group of individuals. If we sticky a thread specifically with the purpose of selling; The second someone posts there, we can downrate/ban etc.

Almost like a rat-trap, cheese with a deadly consequence. The sellers will come to the thread, see the "hey post here if selling". So they open the thread and find it empty (because we caught and downrated/banned everyone else) and say "Hey! Noones here yet, I'm going to post first to make some sick profit for me or my company and be a hero!" then post their information up.

I think that it would be successful if we caught even 1 person posting to the thread. Just a thought, but ingenious if you ask me. What do you guys think?

Sticky thread sellers trap?

Ideally it would also forward the info to blizzard to get the people banned.

Seems like a good idea... but for a week or so a bunch of people will post threads about if buying gold is allowed and promoted by alakhazam.

You do bring a good point to the table Miten.. to that all I can reply with is: If you care about the game; If you can read; If you talk to anyone; You know that selling ANYTHING in WoW is illegal, and against ToS. There will be ignorant people who will be all "OMgzoraz we cann seeeel stuffs now??? I'm gun be reech right quitck." to which I call them idiots. Let them be moths to the flame.

I unfortunatly am the type of person who isn't very forgiving of idiocy.

The fact that you prefaced your idea by making a generalization that gold/character sellers are unintelligent means that you probably subconsciously see problems with your own idea.

Assume they're crafty and intelligent. The dumb ones get caught quickly by Blizzard and lose more money buying new accounts than they make in gold sales.

You're putting up a link so that someone not on the board will be tempted to make an Alahkazam account to sell gold, make one post, and then you ban them? Gold sales are against the TOS from Blizzard, but I don't think they'd ban based on an advertisement on a fan site.

I agree with your dislike of gold sale spam, but unfortunately there will always be an element trying to make money off a good thing.

What makes you think gold sellers actually read anything on the site? We can't even get newbs to read the stickies let alone bastards like these who don't give a ****.

Bad idea imo. All it will do is make gold selling thread stay at the top. Alla won't and shouldn't do it.

I admit, there are intelligent, crafty, and smart sellers out there. These people have invested time paying people, setting up shops, hiring, managing etc. I read a recent article about someone who enlists elderly to farm gold for them. (Mind you I'm sure the article was a spoof). The owners decided to bring computers to an old folks home, teach them how to use them, teach them how to play. This gave them a sense of community. The ability to speak and do things with their friends. They would hold weekly contests to see who could make the most gold, give them prizes from giftcards to supermarkets or whatever. This is an ingenious idea, and still illegal at the same time.

This is true that they would lose money buying new accounts. If you take a closer look, a lot of these places hire people to do the dirty work. The King Pins, Managers, Owners, or whoever you want to call them, do not find and sell the gold themselves. Albeit advertising isn't done by them a lot of times either. They have websites for selling, which they can manage. But Seeing "GOLDSANTA: HEY KIDDIES COME GET YOUR HOLIDAY GOLD AT www.wesellgold.com AND GET A DISCOUNT!!" spammed across my channel while im in WPL makes me feel the adverts aren't exactly bright.

Another good point. Posting on a fan site is no means to being directly banned by blizzard per se. My original post itself was referring to the boards. Yes they are like roaches; for every 2 you kill there are 2 more right behind it. I personally would find it great seeing these peoples ads, then laughing at them as I downrate them over and over again. To say that we can get them banned IG? Not likely, but here we DO have some power.

Take it months down the road if this comes to pass and actually works. Blizzard may take notice. Yes they are a huge company who have a lot to do. Sometimes the smallest boat in the ocean can make the biggest waves.

Indeed. Again this is for the people like myself who get the mail ingame advertising who are irritated. The people who wish they could do something about it, but can't. This idea for a post, would allow me to at least do something.

If it makes you feel better then by all means, fill your boots.

As for the General Chat spam. The person doing it is using a $2 trial account (or a freebee) and probably logs and deletes the character as soon as they do it. I honestly don't know how Blizzard can nerf gold sellers, but if their figures are accurate about the number of people being banned, I'm content.

As an aside, how do we know the figures are accurate. Blizzard may have banned a total of 10 accounts in the last year and none of us would be aware of it.

"Blizzard banned 105000 accounts for abuse of TOS"
"Allied forces say they killed 105000 enemies in the battle"

Both are designed more for morale than accurate accounting.

Before you go out and stock up on tinfoil you might want to know that Alla has always banned gold/account selling posters, even prior to IGE's parent company buying them.

Tetsuol I appreciate your pulling up those articles. The first one reads, which was quoted:

Quote:
"They bought both of us (and several other sites as well) and then split us into separate divisions so that there is no interaction between them. You know my stand on gold selling. Before agreeing to anything like this, I wanted to make sure that there would be no interaction between those divisions and that I would have complete control over the new network, including the sites that used to be part of ogaming. So this means that the Ogaming sites and Thottbot have been split off of IGE and into our network and no longer have any connection with them."

So.... they are, but they do not support IGE in any way. Kindof like eating the foods of parents you detest.

either way u slice it IGE owns allakhazam

i highly doubt there is a 100% seperation from ige and alla

thats j u st s t up idthats like me saying "here im going to buy your house and pay all your bills for free.. dont worry theres no catch u keep living there forever and never pay a cent. in FACT ILL PAY YOU to live there..."

one way or another it will effect allah if it allready hasnt

i say itll start small.. like discounts on gold purchases for premium alla members.. ect ect

If people would read stickies we would not have people posting garbage like gold sellers in the first place.

Also, the gold sellers are smart enough to know that we would be using that strategy to keep everyone from seeing their ads. They arent intelligent, but they are smart enough to see that.
#25 Jan 09 2007 at 6:07 PM Rating: Decent
They get banned soon enough, and this gives them too much attention (which is what they want). I don't think this is necessary.
#26 Jan 09 2007 at 6:14 PM Rating: Good
Sorry, but this is a bad idea from a community stand-point. If I entered a forum for the first time, and there was a sticky labeled "Gold Sellers post info here", I would leave, and never come back.

If you are an Alla insider, it sounds like a good idea, since we will know why it is there, but newbie Alla posters will be confused, and figure that the buyour of Alla was by gold sellers who are not using the site for that purpose.

As others have said, gold sellers get rated-down/banned fast enough. We all know when one is posted, and the Alla authorities get notified with the same speed. What this will be doing is enticing them to post here. That means we will have to end up seeing more gold-selling ads (we have to look at them to rate them down or report them, right?). Not to mention all of the trolls who will start to fill it up with fake ads for attention.

Keep thinking, but this isn't the idea.
