Re-taking a sold accountFollow

#52 Jan 09 2007 at 12:06 PM Rating: Default
Okay I will post again, but lets keep it civil..

Technically the Ebay agreement never happened, because Ebay closed the auction early. They randomly close and dont like auctions like this, but he emailed me anyway to make the purchase. So technically that leaves Ebay out of it. Perhaps I should have mentioned this earlier.

The only remaining binding contract is Paypal.

I will not let him play this account again because I dont want anymore trouble from Blizzard if he screws up again. So I have four options:

1. Delete the account and characters outright

2. Give him his money back and delete the account

3. Give him his money back and play the account

4. Dont give him his money back and play the account (with a possible looming Paypal claim unless there is a 90 day limit for claims)

None of those are good options:

Quote:
1. Delete the account and characters outright

You are essentially stealing his time and his money.

Quote:
2. Give him his money back and delete the account

Then you are only stealing his time. It would be as if you sold him a house for $10,000, and he spent $50,000 to fix it up. Then 6 months later you burned it down and gave him his $10,000 back.

Quote:
3. Give him his money back and play the account

This is even worse, it's the same situation, but instead of burning the house down you move into it.

4. Dont give him his money back and play the account (with a possible looming Paypal claim unless there is a 90 day limit for claims)

Functionally the same as #1

Look, you want a bearing for your moral compass? Leave it alone. Give him the account he purchased from you in good faith back, Apologize, change your email address, and chalk it up to a life lesson learned. Now lets get back to the flaming, was I on the money with that butt-wiping thing?

Okay I will post again,

I knew you would.

If you want my honest opinion without a flame here it is......

He bought the account its his to abuse. If you do anything other than just let him have it to do as he wishes then you're not nearly as concerned with being Morally correct as you imply.

Change the email of the account you still use and dont rip the guy off. You already did a no no by selling it why make it worse by ripping him off.

Do I like that people buy accounts? No but in the end its a game, but you would be ripping him off of real money to do anything but let him keep it or refund his money.

There take it or leave it.

I had to jump on this because all the alla vets are here :)

First: you guys are great
Second: Seller, you are an idiot
Third: Seems like you learned your lesson, although it wasn't murder, to violate the ToS is maybe armed assault. Despite your coming to terms with your mistake, one thing I've learned in life is you pay for your mistakes.

Don't expect to live it down, just learn from it and continue on. I've been told this at jobs of mine where I have a lot of freedom. If you are questioning yourself, or if it may be ok to do, don't do it. It is probably breaking the rules.

Ban sold account ftw

gl with the new account.

the fact that you even consider the other options really makes a statement about you.

I was simply listing all known availble options. What you think I was considering or leaning towards is pure speculation on your part. Perhaps that makes a statement about you?

#62REDACTED, Posted: Jan 09 2007 at 1:10 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Thanks MetalJeff. I mean, the guy calls me an idiot, then says he was trying to be nice. I have never laughed harder in my life.

Interesting how whenever someone doesn't have anything remotely decent; they throw out a "you must be a 5 year old living in your mothers basement eating lolercakes with a bib" or something rediculous like that. No I am not 10, and if they want to ban me, let them. I have had posts here that were benefitial to some extent, I use the forums properly, and by and large don't make a fool out of myself.

So what your saying is that everyone here who posted a flame against the guy is 10 years old? get real.

yea, the statement it makes is that I read just fine.

hey guys, what should I do tonight?

1.) Eat a nice dinner.
2.) Play some WoW.
3.) Molest small children.
4.) Eat some puppies.

duhhh they are all available options so I listed them. but seriously if everyone said oooh do #3 I still wouldn't do it, so in essence it was stupid to even put it on the list.

I can make no promises on #4.

#66REDACTED, Posted: Jan 09 2007 at 1:19 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The plane just flew right over your head. Pull up a chair, and try listening for once. He said you were 10 years old for posting something so stupid. He even "quoted" what you wrote.
#67REDACTED, Posted: Jan 09 2007 at 1:23 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I love it when people use extreme examples in an attempt to make a point. Molest small children? That's a little extreme compared to giving him his money back and playing the account.

ok, my last post on this matter:

Lothgar, about now you will notice your new posts probably aren't showing up.

This is because the community as a whole have rated you down to the point where under the default settings your posts will not be seen.

This is because no matter how you word it or phrase it, the community here does not like what you did, or care what you end up doing about it.

Please take this as a message to just leave. At this point you can consider your account trashed. I'm sure you don't care, and that's fine. I am only trying to save you from wasting more of our and your time.

If you feel the need to be a helpful member of this community I would forget your current account exists and make a new one. And never mention you have ebayed characters, etc.

Good luck.

No, what I'm saying is you are acting extremely immature and I took a guess at how old you must be to act in such a manner. It's pretty sad when someone older than 10 acts in such a way. Especially when you equate selling a WOW account to armed assault. Grow up.

Edited, Jan 9th 2007 4:08pm by MetalJeff

I am not acting extremely immature. I am being real. If you mess up, you pay the price. A lot of people view WoW as a huge part of their lives, which is perfectly fine. To make a mistake like that, I made an ANALOGY of armed assault.

Here : Analogy

Age honestly doesn't seem to matter online anyways. I have read some works from 14 year olds that beat the bag out of much older people. Quit playing the age card, its tired, and needs to rest with his sold account. I'm done posting on this thread. As TseTsuo said

Lothgar,

You forgot option 5: Give him the other account that uses the same email address. That is my pick.

After reading the first page I failed to find the answer to my biggest question.

Do you read the board that you decided to post on? I don't post here alot as evidenced by the post count but I can sure tell ya it pays to be familiar with your suroundings no matter if they be phisical or virtual. Wouldn't take a genius to tell you that you will not be well received here with such actions.

So many times I read threads here and ponder that question.....

#76REDACTED, Posted: Jan 09 2007 at 6:56 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Dont be mean just answer hhis question it is kinda dumb to sell it on ebay but u should not pay the guy back..... : )
