It seems like when selecting the build for many classes, you're forced to choose between various styles of gameplay. There are PvP builds, PvE/leveling builds, etc.

Is this intentional on Blizzard's part? And if so, why?

What's the purpose of forcing us into singular roles in terms of effectivness? Wouldn't it make more sense to allow players to design a character that can enjoy all aspects of the game equally?

and what's stopping you? no one says you have to put all 51 points in 1 tree, or even 31 points. You can spread things out as much as you want.

if everyone was basically the same (suited to all types of play) then we all may as well play halo.

The fact that you need to think about where you put your talent points is what makes your character unique.

Personally, I don't buy into the whole X is better for pvp and Y is better for PvE. Any talent you choose will make your character stronger.

I find a playstyle that works for a character then I spec around it to maximize that playstyles potential.

I have 1 rogue specced subtlety, i built my spec around the way I play him. I have another rogue specced Assassination, I play him differently than I do my other rogue.

I kill **** on both rogues, in both PvP and PvE just fine.

Just play to your strengths and then spec around that, you will do fine.

I'm not sure I agree with you that specs don't make a big difference. Especially in regards to PvP, where it seems more and more like every little deficiency is exposed.

I have a rogue, hunter, and warrior. The rogue and hunter definately see drop-offs in PvP when I'm PvE specced, and vice versa. The warrior doesn't simply because warriors suck no matter how they're specced.

I'm just not a fan of having to be nerfed in one aspect of the game to excell in another. It should be possible to have varying specs with them all being effective.

I'm tired of feeling like I have to respecc every time I take a break from PvP to level.

"Pure" builds will, and should be, more effective at a single role than builds designed to suit multiple purposes (otherwise, what's the point of having talents deep in a given tree?), but it's not hard to devise a build that can do very well in multiple roles. Before the patch, I always played my war as Arms/Prot and could solo, PvP, and tank reasonably well, and come BC I'll be leveling my pally as Prot/Ret for a similar reason.

I agree TseTso I have always played whatever spec I want in this game. And I PvP 90% of the time, and have done so with builds that were called PvE builds.

Or in some cases I was a build considered gimp for along time. My druid was moonkin from day one (of his creation once high enough lvl of course) and all over the O boards and any other boards people would say if you want to nuke as a druid just take certain talents out of balance but not moonking its worthless use those points in resto.

But I was always moonkin and when they all pointed and laughed I just waited till a rogue or warrior came after me and then I got to point and laugh.

Same with my BM hunter, before the latest changes.

Play what interest you, and if you stick with it and enjoy it and have a plan for why you took certain talents, you can become good at PvE and PvP with that build.

People will always make claims in MMOs as to whats the best PvP build, but that is the power gamer thinking of having to optimize to be the best. They forget to have fun and also dont realize that many builds that seem weaker are just different not weaker.

Also I always spec and gear with PvP in mind, cause PvE is not really that hard. However I dont raid that is different im sure.
