pre-shopping WoW questionsFollow

Hi everyone.

I downloaded trial version to check out if my internet can handle the game.
Well I run around in Elwynn Forest and in Stormwind, the latency was somewhere between 150-350, (green-yellow). So the question is, will I be able to enjoy my play without lagging in battlegrounds and world pvp and will my opponent have a big upperhand if he`ll have lower latency ?
Some player told me something about 1min downtime or some kind of *time, can`t really recall that.

And one more to go, as ussual I play with lowest graphics (don`t really care about it...), I have 1100mhz CPU, 384mb ram, gforce2mx 64mb. So will I experience serious laggind while raiding ? (for now I haven`t ever experienced laggind in wow, and I have played it for some time...)

Thank You.

P.S. maybe you know some outstanding pvp videos, in good quality ?

I ran WoW on a system worse than that and ran pretty good. Sure sometimes in the BG I would get a lag spike that would cause me to die, but most the time it ran very well.

But I havent run WoW on that system for about a year.

ok thanks, but what I am really worried about is my internet connection, any thoughts about that ?

Thank you.

150-350 is not great, but it is decent. If your game is not choppy that is the most important part.

Your latency seems ok....if thats what you mean, cause I didnt see where you stated what your connection is so you must mean based off your latency.

hmm, it`s not choppy, but still will I experience any trouble while playing with people who have better latency ?

I doubt it, I think you may sometimes get a lag spike that will cause you to die, but for the most part I believe WoW does a good job at making it so even if you have a slower connection or faster connection you don't get the upper hand.

Well if you play someone like me on cable then yes there will be times when you might lag a bit and Im not going to lag....ever. So I may get a slight edge, but considering that most battles are group battles you wont notice it so much.

Big lag spikes will hurt but shouldnt be too frequent, but its been a long time since I played WoW with any latency, so maybe Im being too forgiving.

If you made it through Stormwind find you will make it anywhere fine, seriously the AH<->Bank area of Stormwind and Ironforge(oh and the area where you enter the BG's too) are the areas with the worst latency you will deal with in the whole game. The battlegrounds and world PvP are much less of a problem, if you made it through Stormwind fine, you should make it through everything else with no problem.

Latency is measure in Miliseconds. 150-350 is quite quick and shouldn't be much of a problem at all. (1000ms = 1 second).

The bigger issues with the system will be the RAM and Video Card as mentioned. Upgrade to at least 1GB of RAM if your motherboard can hold it. Then, upgrade the video card according to what you can afford (I run on 1GB ram, 64 MB Vid Card and with settings down, it's just fine in most cases).

Not sure about the 1min downtime, there are cases of bad latency when spells and such can take 1+ seconds between click and when they start, those are generally in either poor internet conditions, or when a server is crapping out.

There is maintenance every Tuesday/Wednesday (depending on server versions, US or EU), that usually lasts about 6hrs of non-peak time, but that's about it.

Basically you made me happy, it means I can buy WoW (it`s cheap now yeeha), and I prolly will buy new PC in about a month (at least thats what I`m planning). Ok thanks guys, I`ll run in wow until my trial is expired and if my latency is fine. Some of you may see me online.
Thanks.

oh, any videos maybe ? :)
Thanks, thanks, thanks again

btw I checked how many players were online now, and it showed ONLY 49 players (thats only alliance...) isn`t it too little ??? Again why I`m asking - maybe in a month there will be about 300 online and then my latency might go up...

for the memory and the graphics card you may want to look into something new, make sure you get what type of graphics card and memory slots are in your computer. then go to www.newegg.com

newegg is a very usefull sites. i dont remember what my graphics card is but i think its an nvidia geforce 6400 and i got it for something like 75 bucks almost a year ago now right after christmas, and i also found a gig of ram for 50 bucks. thats a very large upgrade, my system was similar to yours, before iplayed and when i got this $150, well less then that of upgrades, it made a world of difference. only time i get lag is when there are game lag spikes that everyone gets

You might have problems when you enter BG or instances. Raiding might also be a problem.
