grrrrrrr... wrote a lengthy post over at the oboards which was summarily lost to a login bug....

anyway...

i wanna uses a macro program that assigns mouse clicks at specific coordinates to keys on my fang game controller. thing is, most of these programs can record long sequences of keyboard input and mouse input, and i'm worried having the program running will flag me as a botter.

any guesses?

Sounds risky, I wouldn't try it.

It would get you banned if Blizzard was able to detect it.

i don't really see how it would get you banned, people use special controllers all the time and don't have a problem.

Just because something has the capability to let you "bot" doesn't mean that's what you are doing.

As long as you don't really use it as a bot I don't see how they could detect it.

If you want a real answer I would say post on the O-boards, but when you do just link the item in question, if you say something like "allows automatic mouse clicking on specified coordinates" then you may end up with off the cuff responses instead of someone actually looking at the product and giving you an answer.

Now if you do something stupid like set it up to fish and then walk away from your PC while it's running then you run a bigger risk.

Ive heard stories of people being banned from using programmable keyboards and controllers. Not from anyone i know or trust, so how valid these stories are (or if theyre just st00pid excuses to get an acount back), i dont know.
But I wouldnt be surprised if warden picked it up.

Imo its cheating its giving you, through spending extra cash, an unfair advantage over players who dont have it. And i think Blizzard has the same stance on it. Seeing how they did disabe multiple commands in one macro and LUA.
And Warden isnt so sophisticated that it can "see" if youre at the keyboard, or that youre macro's are single command line only, it probably only sees that youre running an user input shell. Which could get you banned.

I've been using a key pad for over a 18 months in WoW, the software that controls the pad includes a macro ability that I don't use and I have never had a problem with Blizzard.

the problem is, i want to use the fang with galactic civilizations ii, and that game has no keybinding options whatsoever. it's basically a mix of the original civ and moo (master of orion.)

once your empire hits a certain point, with a mature economy and morale resources, you want to go through and have all your colonies which are at or near their population cap to build a farm. so you have to go through this procedure for each planet:

select tile (random location, center of screen)
queue farm construction (random loc, right side)
select farm (random loc, center)
purchase farm (fixed loc, bottom)
yes i'm sure (fixed loc, center)
next planet (fixed loc, upper right)

it's really no problem if you've only got 10-15 colonies, but in a 'gigantic' size galaxy, you can have up to 250 or so planets, and like i said... there are NO KEYBINDINGS in the game, those are all mouseclicks. on a 1650x1080 screen (stretched to 1920x1200 it looks really good, actually) you're doing laps with your mouse and it gets kind of annoying.

like i said there's no keybindings in gcii, and no way that i can see to get mouseclicks into the fang using the included fang software (game companies' request, i suspect...) which means i'd have to use a third-party (fifth-party at this point?) program to take the fang keypress and translate it into mouse movements gcii would understand.

it's the fifth-party program here i'm afraid that wow would not like... i'd never use it for wow, but i'm still scared of TEH BANSTIKC.

To answer the title of the thead: no, I don't think you'll get a band out of the deal. Maybe try placing an ad in the paper.

In theory you could get banned if you are playing while AFK.

I'm not sure why you'd need to simulate mouse clicks anyway ... virtually anything that you would be clicking can be assigned to a button.

On another note - I played around w/ the Fang and personally I think it is far better suited for FPS games than MMORPGs. I think it'll give you carpal tunnel faster than a standard WASD or ESDF setup on a normal keyboard. The biggest annoyance for an MMO gamer is the lack of a shift key which would have added more functionality. IMO save your money for G15 or one of those N52 gamepads or similar.
