Messaging during game play questionFollow

#1 Jan 07 2007 at 10:41 PM Rating: Decent
I"ve noticed that occasionally when someone messages my it will pop up as a small BLACL rectangle with bold white pring right in the middle of my screen. Very cool. The rest of the time it's in the lower left hand corner of my screen and in regular colored font size, etc. Not easy to see at all.

Is there a way I can have all messages to me or my group flash in front (middle) of me as above in all cases? I'm afraid that I'm otherwise missing the text when someone messages me, particularly when I'm not expecting it (friend says hello, etc.).

Thanks much,

Bill (on a Mac)

ChatAlert addon

Another option is to make a separate chat window for guild/party/whispers. Then those don't get cluttered up with all the general chat.

I think that you only see the black with white chat 'bubble' if you can actually 'see' the character that is speaking. If the person is behind you or too far away, you will only see their speech in the chat window. I know you can turn off the chat 'bubble' but I don't think you can make chat from people outside a certain range 'bubble' when it doesn't normally do so.

Okay - how many of us saw 'massaging' in the title at first? :P

The chat bubble shows when someone (or an NPC) within earshot and eyesight does a /s or /y.

/1, /g, /r etc doesn't show up like that.

I was kind of thinking it sounded like raid warning, but yeah yell or say could be it.

Yes, ChatAlert is excellent for those who miss messages in the actual chat box. It can work with all kinds of chat, too, and you can reposition the text anywhere on your screen, make the font as big or as small as you wish. I'd like to change the noise it makes to alert you (should your attention be off the screen) but that's just nitpicking.

This is what I’ve done for the last couple of years. I almost always missed tells when they were in the general chat box. So I made a new window, place it in the bottom right corner of the screen and directed all guild chat, party chat and tells to it.

Great info and I appreciate the ideas. I'll learn how to apply those options.

Regarding missing tells: Theres an addon I've been using recently called WIM (Wow instant messenger)

http://wow.curse-gaming.com/en/files/details/3921/wim-wow-instant-messenger/

Basically it put up chatboxes for people you are having conversations with, you can close em move em around and whatnot. It can be set to auto minimize them in combat. It keeps track of your conversations both in current session and a full log I think.
