Consequences of changing realmFollow

Hi All,

What are the major economic consequences of changing realms? I understand that a new server would have different economy but would it be a better for the buyers or sellers? Would AH prices be higher or lower? I'm on Anvilmar now and the queues are getting ridiculous.

I'm fairly well established for a lvl 45 druid and make my money with Skinning(300)/Mining(300) as well as buying low and selling for worth.

I have around 1K gold in the bank now and just don't want to jump if everything is going to cost 10 times more or if stacks of Mithril bars go for 20s on new servers...

Thanks in advance.

You can't jump to servers less than 6 months old, or so I've heard. At six months the server will be pretty balanced, I think.

If you can jump onto a new server it usually means everbody else can as well.. and will. They'll bring their high level resources with them and their gold. This means that prices on low level resources sky rocket, or so I think.

Note that I suck at math, predictions, games and everything that just smells of economy.

I'm specifically referencing the "Free" transfers that are being offered to people on Anvilmar because of the overpopulation.

Then you'll most likely be joining a lot of level 60's there. And they'll bring all their gold and all their resources with them. As well as low level characters whom they'll buy resources for to grind professions on.

I don't understand economics, but I'd say that low level items will get a lot more expensive.

I might be completely wrong though.

In the end, prices of things don't really matter. You can adjust to how much inflation a particular server has.

What matters is population and how much trade is going on. How many items are listed in the auction house and how much gold trades hands between players make a difference.

Are you going to a brand new server (I know they opened up some new servers that allowed transfers)? If so, the economy will be FUBAR for a little while, but honestly, you have 1k gold at lvl 45... you don't need to worry about it. The economy will stabilize.

I was just about to do a character transfer, but decided not to for the time being. But, I did some comparisons of the two economies, and many items were at about the same price. However, I found that the older server had cheaper epics, and more of them on AH. And the older server also had higher prices on some of the enchanting supplies, almost 2-3 times as much.

So, if you do consider switching, watch both AH for a week or so, and see if you can get a few stacks of things to make a profit with.

Depends on the server you are transferring to.

If it's a new or low pop server, alot of prices will still be low. That also means fewer choices in the AH. That economic state will depend on the population.

So you may have to abandon the lower tradeskill items and focus on higher end goods. But keep in mind that you can't charge too much for these.
