Hunter or Paladin SuggestionsFollow

I really enjoy playing PvP and I want to roll a new character but can't decide between a Paladin or Hunter.

With a Paladin, and going down the Retribution path, I still have damage potential along with being able to heal myself and my team. However, they have no ranged attacks and can get mauled by opposing Hunters, Warlocks, and Mages.

Hunters of course are great and ranged attacks and have some neat melee abilities. Then you get a pet, which also helps in PvE. The downside is that they are still not great once your opponent gets close to you and of course you have to keep food on-hand to maintain your pet.

So what is everybody's thought as to the better class for success in PvP and Raids?

Well, my Pally doesn't have any problems with opposing mages or Hunters. Any traps or root effects don't stop you at all with Blessing of Freedom, and without Hunters being able to kite or Mages freezing you, they can't really do anything cept get lucky with a crit every now and again. You can cleanse away most of the Warlock DoTs, but you'll probably still lose to them anyway.

Hunters I haven't dabbled into too far, but from what I've heard they are excellent solo-ists and PvPer's but aren't really needed/wanted endgame. Mostly due to overpopulation. Whereas any Holy/Ret spec Paladin is very useful and wanted as a support character (you'll end up healing end game a lot).

Paladin DPS in PvE was upped quite a bit, but it's probably still one of the weaker classes.

Start em both, won't take long to get to 14-16 ish and play around til you decide what you like better.

I don't think many people get to 16 Paladin and say, "Omg! That was was so much fun!"

More like, "Omg! I am so bored I am going to kill myself! Just let me get 19 so I can go **** off people in WSG!"

PvE on a Pally is very boring in my opinion, just because it is slow.

PvP though...

It is so satisfying to have two twinks on you, dying from your team mates, instead of killing off your team and leaving you. :P

Some Twinks just don't think... :P

(One of my favorite things to do in low-level WSG is:

A team mate grabs the flag. I run in and start causing chaos.

The opposition decides to kill me for an easy HK instead of getting back their flag that just went out the tunnel with no opposition.

<3.)

I did and I took him to 60, but PvE even in retri is mind numbimngly slow, I have updated my profile since for ever, but I have most PvE/PvP/MC/ZG epics and blues with one green. But PvP, my oh my what a wonderful day.

So can you really get into PvP with your Paladin and kick some *** or do you just sit back and heal people? I don't mind healing people, but I always take pleasure in the number of kills that I get.

PvE is kind of crappy. I'm in Ironforge right now and I don't even have any open quests and I have no idea where to go.

I know that Hunters are pretty cool in PvP because as a Rogue that is like the one class that I have difficulty with.

Hunters are one of the best for both PvE and PvP. If you play a hunter correctly, you can take down most anything. Just this morning on a new Dwarven Hutner I rolled, at level 10 I took down a level 11 Elite Yeti as part of a quest. Note, that I was in grey quality gear with a Compact Shotgun bought off the AH for 15 silver. If you know how to kite like a good hunter should, you are nearly unstoppable.

Stings in PvP are great for disabling the opposing teams Casters, and even in endgame, hunters DPS is insane. I have a 60 Pally, and unless you tank or heal, you won't be invited to dungeons, and raids only if you're lucky. I do like to heal, though. :)

yeah, i did too... of course, i logged in one day to see my level 5 pally bank alt with the ony buff. 140ap @ level 5 is tooooo much flippin fun.

at least up to level 40, pallies are amazing in pvp. pity the poor warr who chased me all the way across the shimmering flats, i was running back to turn in and he prolly thought i was running scared because he was two levels higher... dude didn't even get me to half health.

To make pve pallies more entertaining just aggro far more than you could think you'd normally be able to handle. Odds are you'll still live through it. :P

One other thing about pvp against mages and to a lesser extent warlocks, with enemy cast bars shown, you can switch auras to fire, frost or shadow as needed. It's like adding insult to injury. Between heals, Blessing of Freedom, resistance auras, and their low armor and hit points, you should have no problem with mages (and to a lesser extent, warlocks).
