I've managed to take down alliance 10 levels higher than me solo as a shaman. What this seems to indicate is that the alliance is mainly consisted of little kids that dont really know how to play.

or that shamans are overpowered^^

im gonna make a new thread: NERF SHAMANS!:P

nah kiddin^^

I have about 6 alliance characters and 1 horde one and i'd say without a doubt that you should go Horde.

In my experience there are alot more immature Alliance players, and as many have preiously stated they really suck in BG's. I think the suckiness is down to the first point, they all seem to ignor instructions and all seem to play for themselves and not the team! I have on many occasions helped out a priest under attack, only for them to turn and leggit leaving me to take a pounding on my own. And i have to say it really annoys me!!

The point raised on the cities is also a good one. The Horde cities are a bit of a nightmare to find your way around, but by the time you hit 30 you'll probably have been back enough times to just know where everything i anyway.

On a personnal note, i once rolled an undead priest and had to delete straight away as i hated the way they looked when they ran! Sounds silly, but looking at that for 60 levels would have driven me mad!

Also pick a side that you like all the races for, not just one. Once you have a main on one side it is hard to switch! Also if you have any friends who play and you can get on their server, thats always a good place to start.

When the Horde far outnumbers the Alliance, they are more imamture.

How many realms does the Horde actually outnumber the Alliance?

http://www.warcraftrealms.com/realmstats.php?sort=Total

Almost all of the more populated realms the Alliance has a 65/35 or more ratio against Horde.

Me? I've always played Horde.

It really is just a matter of personal preference. I've played both factions and I've had way more trouble with idiots and immaturity on the Horde side, but I'm aware that this may not be typical. I think, in honesty, you will find the same proportion of annoying players and nice, helpful people on each faction. Personally I mainly play Alliance because I have friends and a nice guild on that faction so I guess I feel more at home there. My Hordies tend to falter around the Barrens, or I just stop playing them because I miss all my mates. Oh, also, I get horribly lost in all the Horde cities. My advice: if you don't have friends who already play a certain faction then just pick the race you like the look of.

Edit: typo.

Edit again: I very rarely PVP, but for what it's worth I have had much more success in BGs when playing Horde. As others have said though, that will no doubt vary with the BG, server etc. Just my experience.

I say first chose what class you want, then see which faction/race complements it the most.

In my case I wanted to make a mage/engineer charactor. I went through the races saw gnomes had engineering bonus and intellect bonus...so Alliance/Gnome was the perfect fit for what I wanted to do.

If ANYONE ever posts "Horde is more mature than Alliance" again, I will point to this post as an indicator of Horde maturity.

I picked Alliance because my friends were Alliance. Then I found a good guild and stayed. I have nothing against the Horde - in fact, when I was reading the lore I was really impressed by Thrall. Now that guy is a leader! I have a Tauren shaman on another server for when Eitrigg is down. There are a large number of Horde alts on the same server made by my guildies. So it's less "Horde is evil/wins BG's" or ""Alliance is good/loses BG's" it's "Where are my friends?" Besides, I suck at PvP. Carebear, you betcha.

In TB the smeltery an anvil, the bank and the AH are all 20 feet apart. Thats enough reason for the partical among us :P
And the BG entrances are closer then in ogri and not so busy, good if you dont have an uber computer and dont want to spend 10 min trying to click the BG NPC(with the amount of people PvPing these days).
I think that TB is the prettiest city in the game it feels so open and cozy with all the woodwork and grass.
I thought IF looked like "BRS/BRD, the city" but ive been been in Molten Snore to much before i saw that city for the first time.
And SW... i just played to many RPG games to find anything "fantasy human" to be remotely interesting.

I like female troll, there something about a 8 foot good looking babe with tusks. Errr...
Anyway they have my favorite dance and they run nice, a calm and cool jog.
Theyre preittier then NE's imo, more gracefull.
I think NE's females set unrealisticly big steps, pulling up theyre knees to high, i just dont like the anuimation much, like theyre pulling something heavy or something, same for me for the human and NE males runs. And in their dance i dont like the teabagging move.

I think theyre laugh is just fine :) I think its good after you kill someone in world PvP, with the animation and all.
Btw dont take the "pretty eyes" troll face with a mohawk, youll look like a carbon copy of the rest of the female trolls.

The only alliance char i ever made was an NE rogue for kicks (idea was make 2 NE rogues with a buddy and start ganking in STV when we hit 30) and played it to 30, but i dont know, i just cant bear to play alliance. I think vanilla flavour of alliance does it.
When i see group pictures of both races i know why, and hearing a male tauren laugh and seeing a female tauren dance always brings a smile to my face, also
the /welcome and /thanks ("egh...") of UD female.

That and i got harassed soooooo much as an NE female, the "r u really a gurl?" question at least 4 times every gaming session with guys even following me around. Not that i mind, i get some twisted enjoyment out of leading that kind of punks on, but just that you know.
Although i really ROFL'd when i heard the "im the kind of girl my mother warns me for" silly.
I never got harassed on my troll female. They both have names that sounded RL female.
(i got male toons but somehow they dont make it past lvl 35, its kinda sad, i know)

So in conclusion to the OP: 99% of the reason to base youre faction pick on is aestetics, the rest doesnt really matter.

If your talking Pve do ally side its easy mode alot of ppl on that side easy to pick up a end game guild, horde side if you like Pvp cuz well its easy mode....they have toons that can't be stunned ever try to stun a orc shammy running the flag? its just so fun..... they have rogues/warlocks that can't be feared nothing more fun then having a class that can fear you at will but not be feared....man why do they win Bg's? you would think the humans race move would stop that.....oh wait thats right its 10% to rep....um to rep? maybe you could talk them to death?

Pve easy easy mode ally side you can kick a healer and have two more in the guild before the days out,wtf where are all these ppl coming from? Horde side we have to listen to the same dam guy that we all hate and not kick his *** out of fear of not seeing another horde toon to join the guild in 4 months.....pallys we get them soon but they wont be 70 for awhile, easy easy mode they keep you from wipeing its like haveing a soulstone on crack that can heal tank and has plate armor....anyways thats how both sides look right now,all this is subject to change in what 6 days? well except ally sucking in Pvp don't make me use my plus 5 to swords you in trouble now...

I was alliance and I hated it. I wont go too far into it but there is a reason some people claim that horde is better at PvP and work together better.

Im not going to claim every server and this certainly does not apply to premades in the BGs, but since being horde I get into pugs all the time and they almost always have a strategy before charging out. That almost never happens on my alliance guy.

Many people will claim this is not true and I wont argue with them, but my personal experience leaves never wanting to play alliance ever again.

Yes, all the "little kids" want to be the good guys. That lasts until they become teenagers typically, where they all want to be the rebel, the loner, the one person who fought against the stale old system. That's why lots of teenagers typically pick horde, not alliance.

There is no evil side I dont think, they are only evil if youre on the opposite side.

You realize that you are describing my main there. I'm not going to start over and do 43 levels all over again though just to have her look different. :P

My other female Trolls do have a different face and different hair but I do wish there were more faces to choose from. They don't have to be traditionally 'pretty' but it would be nice to have a smiling Troll even if it was a wicked grin. :D

I got it on my first day playing in the starting area. Some guy Troll kept asking me to take off my chest armor and was following me around. I think that kind of thing happens more at the lower levels though.

I agree that there is immaturity on both sides and I have seen many "pro-horde" posts on this site that make me wince that I'm on the same side as them but then I see the same thing from many of the "pro-alliance" crowd so it balances out.

I like all the Horde main cities and can find my way quickly and easily around them. The only Alliance main city I like the layout of is Ironforge. Darnassus is pretty and organized but I just find it inconvenient for my normal bank/AH/profession visits. I don't like Stormwind at all.

I probably wouldn't play my Alliance characters much at all if it wasn't for the fact that my boyfriend's main is a 56 NE Hunter and he keeps pushing me to level up my NEs so they can run around with him. It is nice having someone who can run me through instances now and then but for the most part I just group with his lower level Alliance characters.

As far as the different races go, my favorite race is definitely Trolls followed by Night Elves. Dwarves and Orcs are okay and I can picture myself possibly playing them (and I do have one Dwarf already). I like the Undead but I really don't think I could stand having to look at their run animation for hours on end. The racial design of the Taurans is unique and suits them but it doesn't suit me. I can't see myself playing a Gnome and find them somewhat creepy for some reason. I really don't like the Humans in this game at all and find both the Human players and NPCs annoying for some odd reason and really don't like even being around them for any length of time. The more I see of the Draenei in the game, the more I like them and know that I will definitely be playing them as I really, really love their look. I am undecided on the Blood Elves because the NPCs I have seen look pretty but for some reason they also have a cruelty about them that disturbs me so I will have to wait and see if I can make one that I like.

I'm always amazed that people are actually torn by this question.

For me, it was horde with barely a thought. It just fits my personality.
#41 Jan 09 2007 at 10:10 AM Rating: Decent
Doesn't really matter, if you have RL friends playing as a certain faction join them. This game is a lot more fun when you can play with RL friends.

If not, just go with what you personally like better or what fits your personality. The only really advantage I can think of is right now, horde have instant BG queues where Alliance usually have to wait 15-30 mins.

But when the horde gets paladins and alliance gets shamans, there really won't be much of a difference.
