Druid is a very viable choice too. Yesterday when I was questing I wasn't really paying attention to the "continue quest" and "accept" moments and spawned an elemental 5 levels above me. I still soloed it without too much difficulty.

The ability to put out some reasonable DPS as well as being able to shapeshift and heal yourself mid-fight gives you a lot of survivability.

Not to mention you have a lot of useful extras. For instance you can get through dangerous areas stealthed like a Rogue (In fact when outdoors I can move a lot faster than a Rogue when stealthed) you wont run out of breath underwater and can actually move quicker than any other class so you can actually outrun the aggro. You have Hibernate for crowd control when fighting beasts. You can cast Innervate on yourself to top up your mana. As a Feral Druid this pretty much eliminates the need to bring any mana drinks when soloing at all.

All this and we get good invite rates to instances and raids too. Admittedly mostly for healing duties, but hey. We can do that too.

Play whatever you want to play, but to answer the question, right now it's warlock. The traditional answer would be hunter.

Warlock gets a free mount at 40, too! That's very nice. (so does pal)

All these are great responses.. I think it's great that games now (especially WoW) allow for an almost evened-out level of power, regardless of class. And not just in the respect that, say, a Warrior is better at taking damage and a Rogue is better and giving it, so they're even. I like how, apparently, you've got about an equal shot no matter what class.

I was actually reluctant to post in the first place, fearing an onslaught of, say, "Hunters FTW nub, duh!" kind of stuff. It's basically a given in most games that the Hunter is the most independent, apparently that's not the case.

And to answer a couple of you, by independent I guess I really meant which class isn't going to require other human players to survive and thrive. Not strictly soloing, though that was a big part of it.

The reason, though, I'm taking so much time in thinking of a class (besides the fact that my replacement discs for the ones I lost are taking forever to come in from eBay) is that in all the MMOs I've played, I just get bored and start making new characters, and eventually don't commit to any, resulting in dropping the game. Sad.. I know. Maybe I'm just not the MMO type?

Thanks again for all the responses.

Hunter or warlock, but I got bored of my hunter in end-game, just my opinion though.

Okay, so it's been established that all classes are effective and.. so on, but as far as most independent?

On a PvP server, I'll have to hand it to Rogue. Okay, yeah, my main is a Rogue, but I also have a 60 Warrior and other such high levels, so it's not a "I own" deal. Simply put, a Rogue can stealth and hide in a bush. An enemy can detect you, sure, but finding you in one of the many hollow faux-3D shrubs in the game is another matter. That will save you from many a gank. Or at least, it did me.

Druids are nice to play solo, as someone already mentioned. I'm biased though as my druid is my only 60 :) The versatility is great - you can root and nuke from a distance, go cat for pretty decent melee dps, go bear for tougher enemies or if you get adds, heal yourself when needed, stealth past mobs if you want...plenty of nifty abilities. Not saying they're the best, just the only one I can really comment on.

I'm playing a Human Rogue atm, I'm finding it fairly easy and fairly fast to grind through the levels, even now at level 30 I'm finding I'm averaging 2 - 2.5 levels per evening.

Playing a sword rogue so I'm not very stealthy, I find it more effective just to run in and hit things. I'll respec my talents at a later date to compensate for lack of stealth now.

The class I'm not that keen on is Warrior, I couldn't get into it and found I struggled on even the most basic of run arounds that my rogue can do easily. At level 30 I can stealth into Burning Steppes and mine Thorium/Dark Iron and stealth out again. There's not many places I can't go with him. Even into the heart of Undercity. Didn't get caught until I was in the Bank. At level 17 with my Warrior I couldn't even handle Duskwood. I gave him uo in the end. I'll stick to Hunters and Rogues, I prefer a faster pace of play and more risk involved than just a pure tanking warrior.

Hunters are fun to play, annoyingly slow upto level 10 though. Once you get the pet it's a bit easier. Haven't really worked on him though and he's my first Horde char on the server so I've got no hand outs from my alts.

My favourite class by far is the Rogue, followed by Hunter.

Have just posted something similar to another thread.

Beware of choosing a class that is rubbish at end game!

I levelled a rogue to 60 and i have to say it was awesome! I would say the best solo class in the game. Can sneak around undetected find the mob you want and down them quickly without having to fight through a pack of guys you don't want to kill on the way. Also vanish is a fantastic skill, it basically means that in PVE levelling you need never die! Of course it doesn't always work like that!

Anyway, back to my point, i reached endgame and constantly struggle to get in raid groups, rogues are like the fat kid at school, you spend a lot of time on your own and are always last to get picked!

If you are serious about playing the game to its full potential, ie a character that can level fairly well, endgame fairly well and PVP fairly well, i'd go for a priest or a druid! Both can level quickly Shadow spec and Feral spec. Both can heal well in raids holy and resto spec, and are much in demand. And both can make good PVPers. The druid also has the advantage of being able to tank in the earlier raids in dire bear form. Warriors are also a little in demand on my server, but not even close to healers.

Am just trying to pass on this advice as my 60 rogue is now just a PVPer and is near to hanging up his daggers!

Which leaves you with every class as viable choice. No class is really rubbish, only players are.

I can judge only from my mains guild only which is hardcore raiding one and only classes we had never problems with were warriors and priests. Seems like we can't fill our druid ranks because we can't find skilled and good enough geared druids.

I think you missed my point a bit, i'm not saying that either me or my rogue are rubbish at the actual mechanics of playing at end game, just rather the over supply of certain classes makes some a worse choice for end game raiding than others. I would probably rank rogues, hunters and warlocks as some of the most popular classes and therefore can make finding a raid spot amongst the trickiest.

I'd have to say that it sounds like you have landed on your feet finding your guild and your guild sounds pretty lucky to me to have no problem with finding warriors or priests. I think you might be the exception that proves the rule!

I think the problem you might have with druids is that alot like to play feral but as there is no proper high level feral druid sets then most quit playing as they don't want to repsec to healers. Thats what i have found anyway.

Demon Locks are soloing machines.

Ive soloed Borelgore in EPL a few times with mostly green crap armor. Then I joined a raiding guild and got nicely geared and went back to see if there was a difference with way better gear. I pwned him even moreso LOL.

Can any other class do that? Pally maybe.

Hunters are darn strong soloers too and I mean them no disrespect. I just dont see a hunter soloing Borelgore but I may be wrong. Any hunters beat him?

Rogues can flat out rule at soloing due to stealth and that wicked DPS.

Pallys prolly fall just behind Locks as far as solo ability.

Basically all classes can solo effectively. The biggest factor is talent tree. Certain specs are there for soloing.

I know this has been beaten to death, but...MAGE!

I started a hunter day one of retail for the very reason they are good typically solo. Got him to 60 playing solo 95% of the time and thought I made an excellent choice. But now, after playing every other class to 25 or higher, I found that Mage would have been a far better choice. My mage is 59 as I type this and should hit 60 in the next day or so. So, as somebody who chose hunter for the very reason of soloability, and now basically has a 60 Mage as well, the Mage would have been a better choice.

Why?

Mages are cheap to play and not gear dependant. You are fully effective without expensive gear, or rather your potency is still high without it. Not so for a Hunter. Mages also of course generate thier own food and water. And lastly Mages can get away in a hurry like no other class. Freeze and blink and your gone, I die far less with my Mage than I did my hunter or any other class for that matter.

Dont get me wrong, love my Hunter and it fits my play style, but as far as soloability is concerned, my Mage is more effective.

Paladin is the most independent class, a paladin can heal and buff themselves, a pally can tank, and with the right amount of experience and combos can do more than one opponent. I run a Dwarf paladin on shadow council by the name of Delg and I am currantly at lvl 43 most of my lvling has been solo with a few groups tossed in, but for independence on anything I don't have.

Hunter is a great soloer. Shaman, too. I'm told that Pallies and Druids are, but I've never played either so I can't really say.
If I was going to create a dedicated PvE soloist, I would go Orc Hunter with Beastmastery spec. Very potent combo.
