Most independent class?Follow

#1 Jan 05 2007 at 9:27 PM Rating: Decent
I played WoW a long time ago a couple years ago, a few MMORPGs back in time for me, actually. Well, I used to play a Troll WAR for awhile then I toyed with a few others before I quit.

So speaking as someone with a little bit of prior knowledge.. I'd still like to get your guys' input.

What do you think is the most independent class, ignoring Faction?

...Thanks.

Hunter.

So I thought.. but I'm not one to assume. I was thinking a Dwarf Hunter, despite the deficiency in AGI.. who knows, though.

Was FFXI one of your previous MMO's?
Don't worry about the AGI.

Whereas in FFXI Square lets you bumble about and choose a totally **** class for your character (like letting you create a Galkha WHM, which somehow makes FFXI more torturous than it is already), Blizzard has eliminated the crap for you. If you see that a race can play a certain class, be assured it's more than competent at its role.

Hunter is very independent, its what im playing at the moment and im leveling quickly, and allies suck, be the horde!

Every class in WOW can solo.

Casters and hybrids have it easier with root/slow spells, DOT/DD and stuns.

Melees can also solo but may be harder when facing multiple mobs.

Hunter

Locks are right up there also.
Have pets for extra DPS, pocket tanks, etc
Can self rez every 30 mins
Can convert health to mana or is spec'd for it, take mana from a pet
Decent tanking compared to a Mage or Priest
Good crowd control with fear (just gotta be careful lol) or banish

I find Shaman not bad for Solo'ing myself. They heal, have instant damage spells with decent cooldown (6 seconds i believe) and are good with DPS if spec'd for it.

thats probably the best answer however.

Definately hunter. They were meant to solo. The only thing they can do for a group is do damage.

Hunters and locks. I haven't played lock, but anything that kills that quickly in the BGs can't be totally inept in PvE.

After mucking about with a few classes, I've found the easiest soloers are:

BM specced hunter and Enhancement shaman.

Of the two, the shaman levels much faster imho (able to take down mobs 4 levels above me without much extra effort)

Well.. the highest Char I ever had was a Troll Shaman around level 40. I'd hop right on that but.. Shamans just lose their flavor after awhile.

I just assumed the AGI was a big deciding factor, I mean I've been through alot of MMOs (FFXI was the first) and sometimes they're completely different in terms of stat importance.

I think I'm decided on Hunter, though.

I actually really liked the any race/any class system.

I suffer from an extreme form of altism, which translates into characters being abandoned around level 16.

FFXI allowed me to pick one race I really liked, which was a Tarutaru, and play any class I wanted without having to remake the character. This eventually pushed all of my levels up as I slowly cycled through jobs, lol.

But, I was a much better player than almost any other I ever met.

As a Taru War, I was more than capable a tank or DD than any Elvaan or Galka War I ever partied with.

You also seem to be the humblest.

OP asked for the "most independent class," not the best soloist. Arguably that might apply, but what if "most independent" means other things, like not needing gear, not needing to buy supplies, not needing to go to town to buy often, etc.

Mages summon their own food and water, free. But I find mages to be somewhat gear dependent in that they suffer w/out an enhanced mana and sta pool.

Hunters are independent in terms of being great soloists, but they are very dependent on ammo. If you are a bow hunter, you must go to the store to buy new arrows. If you are a gun hunter, you can avoid that by having engineering skill and making bullets from stuff you mine - provided the nodes to mine are in the area you are hunting -- and you are still dependent on that. Hunters need a decent range weapon, an okay melee weapon - but don't strictly NEED great armor to pve.

Warlocks might be the "most independent" in that they can tap for mana and drain back health from targets while fighting behind a taunting VW pet. They are great soloists and have no gear requirements (all meleers are gear dependent). A warlock can level to 60 in his underwear, fighting behind a taunting vw pet. A hunter can do the same, except he has some dependence on weapons and ammo.

All classes can solo, if that's what you mean by "independent." All.

Some level faster than others - but not if you hate doing it. Mages can AoE for fast experience (harder than it sounds, btw). Rogues are very fast killers but are gear dependent. Hunters and locks have good to great dps and kill very fast as soloists. Beware holy spec priest, healing spec druid, all paladin specs (okay, maybe not retri spec pals, but even they aren't "fast" killers) and heal spec'd shamans - and tank-spec'd warrior. These can level very slowly compare to others.

Apperently my comment annoyed PsiChi...

I'm not going to deny it, I was a very good player. I took the time to learn every class in the game.

Doing that allows you to see the intricacy of the game systems much easier. I knew the point to stop with aggro. I knew how to gain high aggro and keep it as a Warrior.

I slowly spent way over 30 days of my life learning that game, and I would prefer not to look at it as a complete waste of time.

And I am obviously not the humblest. I said "almost any."

That is partly because I was above average and partly because the majority of the player-base was just rushing through the levels to get to certain key points, like Maat or god fights.

/hijack w/ off topic rant.

Hunter was the most independant, but I have the feeling that a feral druid will out level a hunter from 60-70. I've taken both to 60 and my hunter's max exp/hour was only about 5% more then my druid's.

2.0 changed things though, and while beast spec hunter has improved, feral druid has improved more. I'm betting that my druid will get to 70 in less /played time then my hunter, despite that my hunter has better gear to begin with.

I would say Hunter
Just make sure you pick up fishing, cooking, AND First Aid along with your primaries. I made that horrible mistake :)

This is only my opinion. Someone else may find that it's other way 'cause other classes more suit his solo style. Also all the suggestions are ment for soloing and soloing only.

Most solo ability

1. pet classes: Hunter and Warlock
these two have pet to tank for them, while they can do great damage on the mob. Best soloability because you are not taking damage while doing big dps on enemy. Best solo speces would be those that support your pet (beastmaster, demonology) although for warlock is pretty good afflicion for drain life tanking and succubus damage as well.

2. survival classes: Druid and Paladin
these two have quite low damage output but can take loads of damage, survive it, heal it and take some more. Although you won't lvl as fast with these two you have quite high mistake tolerance.

3. damage doers classes: Rogue and Mage
these two do some nice damage, while they don't take much of it. Mage kites it's enemy while rogue dodges almost everything (casters mob don't matter, you kick and doodge). They both can't take much, but their strategy is to kill enemy before he can do something/ Rogue is better in single target while mage in multi target killing.

Warrior and Priest: Although I played both of 'em to 30s it was not as much fun as the other classes for reasons that are applicable only on me. Both are quite easy to level, warrior's playstyle is close to that of rogue while prests to that of mage (single target only),

Don't take this as general rules for classes. It's matter of playstyle as well.
