Who Else Would Like to See a real summoning class added.Follow

Maybe it's just me but they're my favorite to play and it doesnt seem like it would kill the other classes to add it.

Huh?

Warlocks, Hunters, Mages, Druids all can summon.

What is the difference between Warlocks and a "real summoning" class?
#3 Jan 05 2007 at 7:26 PM Rating: Default
one that can pull a few weaker pets at once. the lock is like a necro on other games and the mage would be better if it was more summoning oriented.

So a Lock summoning demons is like a necromancer?

Few smaller pets?

Please, be more detailed. How are Locks not a summoner class? What exactly beyond "pull a few weaker pets at once" makes a real summoning class?

I thought about that once while playing Guild Wars. They have a class called Necromancer that can summon up to 10 minions to fight for them. These minions had limitations such as a constant DoT so it's harder to maintain them for long periods of time. Putting something like that in WoW however would make them completely overpowered against certain classes like casters. Trying to get a cast off when someone like a hunter and his pet is beating on you can be a challenge. Try adding even more pets and you might as well be a free HK unless you got a lot of damaging instant casts.

that is where i got the idea from the necro in gw. but you prove a valid point there would need to be some way for casters to hold them off.

He wants someone who when they cast their spell the entire zone has to sit still for 10 minutes while the animation comes out.

God damn knights of the round.

Couldn't they have put a @$@#$@# skip cinema button on that?

Knights of the round + quad materia = dead sephiroth in record time.

I'm still wondering how a class that summons Demons is anything like a class that deals with death and the undead (necromancer).

Necros in EQ had this ability. Mage's also had a similar thing with multiple elementals. They can't attack more than one target at a time if I remember correctly. It was limited and wasn't overpowering. It's kind of like those summoners in Scholomance. It could be done in WoW with the right dmg and low hp as well as a long recast. Think of the frost mage's elemental but 4-5 skellies.

I don't think it's a big deal with or without something like this.

Warlocks in WoW are like a mix of EQ's necros and mages. The pets are similar to the mage's and the detrimental spells and dots are like the necros. It's not the summoning they have in common but the death and destruction of their debuffs and dots really.

I think that what he means by "summoning class" is one that is completely, 100% focused on summoning spells. This would not be a very good idea, IMO, for there is a possibility that they will create lag (as with the Necromancers in Diablo II who focus on summoning skills), obscure vision (10 pets, all following you around, right behind your character? I even have trouble seeing past my one little owl sometimes), or turn out as a very overpowered class; as was mentioned before, casters can experience great difficulty when dueling a hunter and their pet, their SINGLE pet--try multiplying that by ten, and ANY class would be likely to lose against this one.

But, you may persist in asking, what about a class that can summon creatures one at a time? This would make no sense either--what would be the point of hunters, then? Just a useless archer-hybrid that actually has to TAME pets (GASP!) when this "cool" new summoner can have them at the click of a button. This kind of class strikes me as the lazy version of the hunter who, at a slight travel cost, can have nearly any animal in the game, even some rares and elites.

I think I've made my point.

I just had Cloud attack him with 4xCut once. No need for KotR.

Edit: And after all the build up to it, I was thoroughly disappointed by the whole thing.

What the hell? Have you even played WoW? You just said a Hunter is useless without a pet. If that was true, I wonder why people spec Marksmen and Survival? Because the skills make pretty effects?

"Legolas's Aimed Shot hits you for 4,276 damage"

What's the pet?

"Boromir hits you for 78 damage"

As much as I would liek this game to be some impossible chimera of Final Fantasy and Warcraft...well this isn't FF.

Warlock is pretty much Warcraft's version of the summoner.

Yeah but we get to use our summons in groups and don't have to stand around just healing people. I used to swear up and down the only reason anyone invited me over a Mage though was my Soulstone and Blood Pact.

Surely having little minions running around with you would cause intense lag? Like a mini Ironforge?

Edit: Oops, didn't see Shadowmoonslayer's post.

Quadra Magic totally didn't work with KotR.

Aye, I spent many, many, MANY hours maxing out ALL of my characters to level 99, getting every single materia in the game. Getting everyone's ultima weapon or whatever (it's really been a long time and I can't quite remember), getting the MASTER materia. I basically maxed out everything that I could to prepare myself for the final fight against sephiroth and the guy turned out to be a total whimp.

Like I said, it's been a long time, so I might have my names crossed, but I was able to cast KotR 4 times... I killed sephiroth after the second one I think (again, it's been a long time).

I just leveled Cloud, Barret and Cid to lvl 72 in the first disc before the Demon Wall.

I guess it was pretty lame since I just walked through the rest of the game after that. :(

EDIT: Oh, and

You killed Emerald and Ruby weapons, I take it?

Also, challenge to anybody. Kill Ruby Weapon before you kill Emerald Weapon and I say you did a good job.

Ruby was a lot easier than Emerald with the right strategy.
#25 Jan 06 2007 at 4:51 AM Rating: Decent
Yea well, with Hades and co., sure, but Ruby was ALOT easier after beating Emerald since you would have Master Materia(Isn't that what Emerald dropped? Like, 4 years since I last played FF7).

Also, IMO, FF7 is my personal favourite game of all time. Given, I haven't played THAT many games, but it still is.

....my 72 main healing mithra SMN is currently playing with her tail in my mog house because I abandoned her to play a hunter in WoW. ...I'm enjoying actually doing something active in-game so much that I almost forgot about the notice I received from Final Fantasy Protective Services saying I was wanted by GMs for character neglect.
